    Hey all,

I wasn't on the jam for a couple of months, so I don't know if this has
been discussed here before or not. I read in the August issue of the Dutch
metal magazine Aardschok that MP stated on an English radiostation that
Touring Into Infinity will probably be the last tour ever in the band's
history. Can anyone confirm this, or is it just a rumour (although I would
be surprised if Aardschok would just spread rumours...)

Secondly, does anyone know anything about Angra's upcoming album
'Fireworks' (rel. sept. 4th) (songs etc...)

    Tnx

    Peter

Okay, I don't know them *very* well, but I heard them a couple of times.
I can say that IMO they're very good. ToT are very gothic and heavy
like Moonspell or Therion, and add female vocals (by a gorgeous Liv
Christine) to grunts and 'scary graveyard- singing'. Anyway, they just
released a new album (Aegir or Aegin or something like that), but their
first one is better (forgot the title though).

A little update on my previous post about TII being DT's last tour. I'll
give the Aardschok article in translation (it doesn't say that much, I
    know):

'DT-drummer MP told the English radiostation Rock Radio Network that the
current DT-tour will probably be the last one in the band's history.
Further details were not revealed. Also, it seems that later this year the
band will release a live-album and a Video'

from: Aardschok Internationaal Rock & Metal Magazine, august/september
    1998 page 4.

That's all it says. That last sentence we all knew already of course, but
if the rest is also true, I think this may be a very sad day for all
Jammers and DT-fans worldwide. Let's hope it's not...

This has been squashed by MP already. This will not be DT's last tour. There was a misinterpretation in the article by its author, or maybe a botch in translation. Again, this is not DT's last tour.

    >NP: Paradise Lost: One Second (Great album)

I have to second that one. I got some kickass tapes from a fellow 'jammer (you know who you are) and one of them had a whole lot of PL on it. I had never heard of them before nor anything by them, and I really really love this stuff. Potentially non-interesting side-note: I think I scared the shit outta one of my younger brother's little homeboy friends when I drove him home one day blasting Paradise Lost. (You know the type, cap on backwards, pants dangerously close to falling off, with one leg rolled up). I was getting all into it (as I usually do when driving and listening to music, heheh) and he didn't say much for the entire ride. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

JONES BEACH IS TOMORROW BAYBEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone wants to meet up before the show or anything, drop me a line. Also, Damon, I'd be happy to give you a ride up, unfortunately I have no ticket though. I hope things work out so you can go to the concert!!

OK, so we are cruising along with the DS vs KM debate, then suddenly Derek posts a message and begins a whole new controversy. let me try to analyze this from my vantage point. Bear in mind that you may think of me as an overposting maniac, and you may be right, but you can do nothing about it. I control the Jam now, hahahahahahahahaha. :) Anyway, onto the show.

I first interviewed Derek in December of 1996 for my prog rock radio show. I don't know if it was because he didn't take a college DJ seriously, (and honestly, I didn't do the greatest job in the world of interviewing him), but I could hear his aggravation over constantly being compared to KM in his voice. He was very honest, and I found that honesty a bit unnerving. I considered him to be a little overconfident, conceited, maybe. At some point during the interview, I had to make Derek aware of my blindness, and his attitude softened a little. Actually, quite a bit. After the show, he came out and asked me if I needed anything, like a drink. aHardly the attitude of somebody who just wanted to have sex. maybe he felt bad because he didn't know or something, but he was actually pretty cool with me. Granted, people who would normally be dicks to everybody else seem to be nicer to me, probably because of the handicap.

Fastforward to last night. After hearing tons of mixed reviews of Derek's attitude and personality, Derek explodes onto the jam with a post that drips with aggravation. In his aggravation, he expresses his respect for Kevin more, which was a great thing for him to do. Trashing Kevin would've increased the rift. How could you not have respect for KM? And Derek does have a point. This debate is useless. You have opinions, everybody has opinions. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they usually all stink. However, Derek was a bit abrassive in his post. And to attack Charlie Dominici was probably not the greatest move in the world. I guess Derek might need a little help in the PR department. But, can you blame him? He has been compared to KM for a little too long now. Of course, Derek may have to realize that this will never end. People have been battling over which incarnation of Yes is the best. Look at the Peter Gabriel vs Phil Collins vs Ray Wilson debate in Genesis. David Lee Roth vs Sammy Hagar vs Gary Charone in VH. Coke vs Pepsi. Old Rush to new rush. Damon Fibraio vs Matt B. (Wait, I made that up.) james vs Charlie in DT, (yes I have seen some comparisons, but let's face facts, 99% of all DT fans think JLB is much better than Chuck D). [I happen to like both, and let's not start this debate, OK?] So, Derek, I hate to say this to you, but you may need to get used to the comparisons. move on, man. Just do your thing and eventually the fans will either accept you, or bludgeon you to death with a baseball bat. :) But, a word of advice, next time you post, you may want to think carefully of what you aretyping. And throw in the smilies. They look like this. :) I am blind and I know that, because somebody told me. IMHO means in my humble opinion. I would encourage all DT personnel to post to the list as often as I do. :) But don't be a dick.

Well I finally got my free promo tape from the Empty Tremor boys. It was nicely put together with 4 songs and lyrics on the insert. Unfortunately it's the crappiest quality tape in the universe. Now before you bitch at me for complaining about something I got for free....the quality of the tape severely impacts the overall quality of the production and the sound of the band as a whole. I just hope it's because of the bad tape and not the original cd...

The band itself...eh. It's hard to be too harsh because they obviously have talent but I get almost nothing out of listening to this music. I'm sorry, but I just don't hear an original style from this band. It's almost funny listening to bands try to copy DT cause they leave out so many of the best parts of DT. The most often copied part is the synchronized power chords and drums in odd time sigs (such as in UAGM) and this band certainly does plenty of that. Unfortunately since that's all they can do they can't copy the lush chords and advanced progressions that DT does such as in Learning to Live. This is not progressive music. I'm not saying that makes it BAD music, but there's nothing innovative going on here and I'm sick of all these new bands doing their best DT being called progressive. Somebody think of a better name for this style before I go crazy...

Hmmm, so why is it I've heard about 20 bands (Altura, Mayadome, Lemur Voice) doing their best Metropolis Part 1 impressions but no bands that can match the beauty of Learning to Live or Trial of Tears? I know many people think Metropolis is DT's best instrumental work but that's a product of mostly technical talent and not song-writing. I think LTL stands up better over time.

    Hi

I've just bought the new issue of the Break Out magazin+CD (Germany) and there is a new Enchant song "King" on the CD.

This song "King" totaly sucks. I'm very dissapoinetd :-(( Shit, where are the great time sigs and melodys. All I hear is alternative sounding guitars, sucky drums and shity keys which are totaly in the back ground.

I only hope that this song is a kind of You Not Me and that all the other songs on "Break" are at least 100 % better than this shit. What a dissapointment !
