Humm,my favorites are Stratovarius,Cacophony (the best guitar duo of all
time , Jason Becker rules!!!),Angra,and of course,Yngwie,the God,hehehe...
>you'd probably really like "Vovin" and "Theli".
Vovin and Theli are very good albums...
>Also, is that new Yngwie CD any good (the Concerto Suite one..... or
>whatever it's called)? I have one of his discs (the Collection one) and
>I kinda like it - but I'm not really THAT crazy about it.
Yngwie's Concerto Suite For Electric Guitar and Orchestra In E Flat
Minor Opus 1 - Millenium...The best album of all time!!!Don't have words to
describe it,hehe...If you like classical/baroque music and like to listen to
a great guitar player you have to listen this...And about the
Collection...It's really not very good...In this disc there are the more pop
songs from each album, except some songs like "Black Star"...Try to listen
Yngwie's first solo album,"Rising Force",the second","Marching Out",and the
latest before the concerto,"Facing The Animal"...

Well, well, I guess my original post caused a little tension. Let me just explain. What I mentioned about Derek was my PERSONAL experience in meeting him. Has nothing to do with his musical ability. Even though I prefer KM, Derek is just as good technically, and with a different style which probably took DT in a semi-new direction. I enjoy Derek's msuical contributions to DT. Now with that out of the way...
I was only trying to say what KorgX3 echoed so perfectly. I hold bands, especially my favorite one, DT, in very high regard because of both their music AND their personalities and types of people they are. They both go hand in hand for myself, and I'm sure millions of other people. The image I have of a band can be affected by several things: a horrible album, makes you wonder "Gee...what the hell went wrong?" I will still enjoy the band, but if the trend were to continue, would probably make me go look elsewhere. Another thing is the demeanor of the members....Great musicianship does not a nice person make. Just to attempt to draw a semi-parallel (WIHTOUT starting a new thread), why would anyone give a shit if Bill Clinton slept with many other (or even 1) woman while he was married in office? It doesn't take away from his abilities as a President, does it? Of course not. But the fact of the matter is MANY people give a shit. Why? Because he is someone many people look up to, or have an image of a certain type of person running their country. Now, for DT, people look up to them and have a certain image of how they are as individuals when they're not playing amazing music. If that vision is tarnished, some people will tend to have a lower esteem of the band. Let's say I meet a lawyer, or a bricklayer, or a computer engineer for the first time.....I`m fascinated by his work, but one of the first things he tells me is how he wants to bang his secretary, and how he banged two waitresses at the same time last week. I couldn`t care less what he does in his spare time, but by saying things like that, it`s what you call UNPROFESSIONAL conduct. It`s unneccessary for me to know shit like that. Same for Derek, or any musician for that matter..... Derek can bang ten women (or ten guys for that matter, what do I care?) in one night. The thing is, he doesn't have to tell me about it, because it's not necessary and unprofessional. It's the same as if they were all raving alcoholics. What do I care? Or drug addicts. Who cares? I love beer. But if they were always drunk/stoned on stage, and their performance was affected, that's UNPROFESSIONAL, and they should still treat what they are doing as a PROFESSION. They must act professionally, and they owe it to the fans to always be performing at their top level. How often do you hear a great band, but when you see them live, they look more like a cover band for that band? I've seen it very often, and it's unfortunate. Fortunately, Dream Theater is extremely professional on stage, and their performances are immaculate. But if they would always be in another state of mind on stage, and couldn't perform up to standards, wouldn't all of you be disappointed, and think that in a way, they were disrespecting the fans?? I'm sure most of you would.
So to sum up, I really couldn't care less about who Derek meets or sleeps with, or if he masturbates with a cheese grater. It's none of my business, and it should remain that way. There is no need for him to go around flaunting it in public. Don't you think? I was simply disappointed when I met him and he said stuff like that. I didn't expect those kinds of comments (which really made me think that he was in it for the chicks firstly). But I still think of him as a great key player. Now, when I met John Myung, he was extremely sincere and polite, took a picture with me, and shook my hand. He didn't mention anything about chicks. And maybe he bangs more chicks than Derek, maybe he's been alone for 2 years.....who knows, and who cares? The difference is that he didn't feel compelled to mention it. And that was professional. There's a difference between putting up a facade or false image of yourself, and being professional. All I expected was professionalism.

UK only has 3 albums out not including bootlegs.
1). "UK" With Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, Eddie Jobson and John Wetton. This album has the heaviest drumming by Bruford. "In The Dead Of Night" is a really good song that Wetton always at live shows.
2). "Danger Money" Only tiro, Bozzio on drums, Wetton on bass and vocals and Jobson on violin. This is the best album in my opinion. The drum parts have so many details. It's worth listening.
3). "Night after Night", live album Before disbanded. Same lineup as Danger Mnoey.
All I can tell is if you like King Crimson you should buy all UK albums. UK is similar to KC in Wetton period (1973-1974) with heavy bass sound.

Earthbound is a live album which was released only on vinyl. The sound quality is worst but the 21st CSM song by Boz is very raw.

You know, actually I'm let down because it was his first serious post, but I could not disagree with him more. I'm one of those people that think that it's the music not the person behind it. If a musician you like goes out and kills somebody, does that mean that everything he did before that is crap? I don't think so. You might have a different opinion, but I think music (and any form of art) should stand on its own. Like I said before, I'm not here to judge anybody because I am not perfect myself.
Nobody answered my UK question... please, what does it sound like? Is it some King Crimson-type band? Or is it more fusion-like?

Dear Brazilian Jammers I had previously agreed to the idea of the ytsemeeting in Sao Paulo. Since DT are coming for the Monsters of Rock festival, I think it would be a good idea if we met before this show, which I suppose will happen mid-september. I talked to a friend of mine yesterday who owns a store called Aqualung at Galeria do Rock, and I figured we could arrange to meet there. He liked the idea, and he even promised to play only DT for us. He suggested the meeting to be around 2pm on a saturday. I think it's a good idea. If you have any suggestions, please email me, and then we can talk over the phone. Roger, in a better mood now?? :)
Take care

Okay, sorry I freaked out on this, I just read the 'news' one week after I re-joined the Jam. Apparently there was some misunderstanding at the radio station. Anyway, I'm glad that MP never said what he was thought to have said (obviously), and I promise that I'll double-check every 'news' that I read before sending it to the jam and that I'll attend every DT-concert that I can:-)

Well, look at the competition it's going against.... I&W and Awake are MUCH superior to FII. Maybe from any other band FII would kick ass, but I have problems even with some of the songs that I liked. I think KJLB's voice isn't the same as it was previously, and the beginning section of NM, even though it's a pretty cool song, is grating to me.
So, it's weak relative to the others.

You're on the other side of the fence. Too you, the grass is greener over there, to me, I think you're probably right, but I'm too poor to move over there with ya. I can't separate music from the band. I was raised in the 80's where music and image forever intertwined. I can try to separate the two, but I was programed to be unable to.
Vince French said it much better than I could. Go read his Derek flaming post if you just skipped it. It explained the way I feel better than I tried to.
