Hello Lords of the Low Frequencies,

Someone mentioned getting a Bass Tab Project going so that we could produce
an archive containing bass tab that could actually be of real use to
someone. I'd like to help in whatever way I can. One way to approach it
would be to designate someone as some form of administrator so that we don't
all go away and work furiously for a few weeks and return with 14 different
    versions of the same song.

It would be handy to have a way of knowing who else is working on what song
so that the song's low-frequency-tablature-engineers (?!?) can compare
notes. Anyway, I'd like to contribute if the project does get off the
    ground.

1: Is there any particularly good Musical Instruction Video kinda store from
which I can buy "Stu Ham's - Slap, Pop and Tap" video. I see that
www.bassplace.com <http://www.bassplace.com> is selling it for $40 but
their webpages are screwed and they won't allow my order to go through.

    2. Have all you keyboardists out there filled out Jorden Rudess' survey?
For those who may not have heard; he is considering recording an
instructional video but isn't too sure who would be interested and what form
the video should take. Check out www.dreamtheater.net
<http://www.dreamtheater.net> and go to the latest news page. You'll find
a link to his survey page.

    That's it,

    Rob.

He offers a 10% discount on the video for those who fill out the survey. I

    Hello,
No, DT, isn't but I am. I'm unloading all the guitar equipment I own so I
can get the hell out of New England. If you're interested, go to:
http://www.harmony-central.com and head to the classified section. I'm
selling guitars, amps, effects and everything. Call me a spammer, but I'll
give any jammer a discount off the price offered if they want something.
For "keeping it in the family" and all... Sorry for the clutter.

i was cruising through and stumbled upon this on elektra's DT site:

NEW DREAM THEATER 2CD LIVE ALBUM, ONCE IN A LIVETIME& HOME VIDEO, 5 YEARS IN A
    LIVETIME COMING OCT. 27th, 1998.

so it's good to know the release date, but also it had this interview with MP:

    Once in a LIVEtime thoughts.....
After 6 years of semi-constant touring and 2 live mini-EP's, it seemed the
right time in our career for a "proper" live album to represent our musical
    catalog thus far.

This whole double CD is taken from one show in Paris. This was one of the
final headlining shows on the "Touring Into Infinity" tour. In order to
capture as much music possible (and also because some our songs are very
LONG), we performed a set that evening that was over 3 and a half hours in
    length.

A live Dream Theater show is really the only way to understand and experience
what this band is all about. Besides getting to see us actually PLAY our
instruments (which seems to be the biggest appeal of DT), you become part of a
society or a secret club which is exclusive to these fans that are absolute
FANATICS!! Our fan base has never been casual. They are hardcore fans that go
to dozens of shows on a tour. They know every set list we play. They know
every nuance of the music. And it is this interaction with these great fans
that can only be fully understood & appreciated by going to a Dream Theater
    concert.

The songs represented here in this collecion cover a spectrum of our 10 year
recording career. There is a balance of material from different albums, a
balance of "popular" songs and cult favorites, a balance of heavy songs &
softer songs, a balance of our very complex songs & our more simple songs. And
of course, what Progressive live album would complete without the obligatory
self-indulgent solo spots!!!! The arrangements to the songs are almost never
the same as the album versions. Some songs are extended and have improvised
jams thrown in, some songs are shortened and have been combined to create
medleys, some songs have bits & pieces of cover tunes thrown in......It's this
variety and these embellishments that I think make our live show, and this
album, exciting to listen to everytime.

    Enjoy!

I wouldn't know where Roger or Daniel got the information about the
presence of DT in this year's Monsters of Rock, but I read on today's
newspaper (Folha) that it's VERY likely that OFB is indeed performing in
the festival, which will happen on September, 12th. But, again, we still
    don't have any OFFICIAL information.

Other bands that are scheduled to come: Soulfly, Slayer (2 'enemy'
bands on the same bill!), Judas Priest, Manowar, Korzus and, if
    everything goes well, Van Halen.

Hey, cool idea about the meeting, Giba!! Am I invited? :)

Last night's concert was UNBEFUCKINLEVABLE! DT's set was short (about 40 minutes)
    but it rocked. It was:

    1. New Millenium
    2. 6:00 (which I never thought I'd hear them play live)
    3. Peruvian Skies (w/Have a Cigar and Enter Sandman)
    4. Pull Me Under
    5. Hollow Years
    6. Metropolis Part 1 (which rocked as usual)

It was great to see them in an auditorium rather than standing up in a club, although the
experience of a club show is much better. Pull Me Under really rocked more than I thought
it would, since it normaly sounds a bit overplayed. It was also cool to finnaly see them do
PS with Have a Cigar in it. THe only complaint was the sound. I guess it was the PA, since
it was the same for ELP and DP, but the bass seemed to swallow everything else up.
Sometimes I could barely make out what Petrucci was playing. Anyway, on to ELP.
Anyone who has not heard these guys MUST check them out. Keith Emmersons concerto
was unbeleivable, as well as Carl Palmers drum solo. Ive never heard anyone do a double
bass faster than what he did last night. Plus closing with Tarkus in its entirety :-). Encore
began with 21st Century SChizoid Man by King Crimson which made me happy :-) Ok, last
band was Steve Morse and Deep Purple. I say Steve Morse AND Deep Purple because he
stole the fucking show! The only other time I've heard Morse was on The Night of the Living
Dregs album, and havent gotten a chance to really hear him. Actually, I'm sort of reeling in
shock still, for two reasons. 1) How much like Morse Petrucci sounds and 2) How much of
a mother fucker Morse can play like. His guitar solo was too much for words to describe.
Trust me, if you are planning to see a DT/ELP/DP show, stay for DP, you wont regret it.
Well, last night did spawn two "who is better than who" debates. "Who is better: Keith
Emmerson or Jordan Rudess?" and "Who is better: Steve Morse or John Petrucci?" I think
both are close calls, and with players this good, I usually dont like to have these disscussions,
since they both have unique styles, and its all really based on preference. Personally, I like
Rudess and Petrucci better, but thats just me. Anyway, if you are planning to go to one of
these shows and only planning on staying for DT, you are making an incredible mistake.

Yeah, I'm afraid I must agree here, especially that "down, down, down, down
etc." bit at the end of the last track.

    >other main gripe is the mix, or rather the lack of it. I know Bozzio is

Yeah, what were the producers thinking?

    >for me - the first 3 minutes or so of the second track are very creepy

    >Topographic Oceans") and then suddenly the jump to something that

    >all good, and the bass playing and drumming are perfect. But the flute
    >and the trombone are no-nos. 7/10

I like that 'Enigma' bit, just like I like Osmosis on LTE. I also liked the
trombone solo, it was the most sensitive trombone playing I've ever heard,
even though I haven't heard much solo trombone. I must admit being a little
indifferent to the flute parts though.

    >he thinks or gets up to in his spare time. Next thing we know is
    >people will stop listening to him because some nerd finds out that he
    >did/didn't vote for Bush/Clinton or whatever.

But people aren't talking about his sex life, they're discussing the fact
that in his post, he seemed to be expressing his membership in the band as a
medium for getting more sex, more importantly than a medium for expressing
his artistic visions. He seemed to add the art as just an afterthought to
the sex. Maybe he didn't mean it that way, but thats how it seemed to a lot
    of people.

yup, well... I mean why should we run around town badgering poor music store kids asking for a band who they've never heard of because they never received a copy? So I think most people have just decided to forego that hassle, besides its hot in oklahoma.... and just order the danm thing!

    Hi there.

If you're a Brazilian ytsejammer and you'd like to participate on the upcoming (we sure hope so!) event, I have good news for you: I've set up a new mailing list called (oh, guess what!) YtseBR.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it's not only intended to be a way of communication with the people that will be at the Brazilian YtseGatherings. Perhaps (if it lives long enough), it will be the Brazilian version of Ytsejam. Who knows about the future? :-)

    But before we start:

    * TURN OFF the damn MIME encoding! * the list isn't in digest mode yet (perhaps it will never be, if there are only very few posts); * to any administrative task (be it "subscribe" or "unsubscribe"), send your message to <rbrito-ytsebr-request@linux.ime.usp.br> with the appropriate subject (that is, if you want to subscribe, write subscribe on the subject line; if you want to unsubscribe, write unsubscribe); * the address to send posts is <rbrito-ytsebr@linux.ime.usp.br> (did you notice that the list has two addresses?? Memorize them. It's not that hard).

Ok, now that the basic facts are said, we'll try to arrange the necessary things for the gathering, like the date, the place etc.

    Right?

    See you on YtseBR, Roger...

No bonus tracks. The Japanese version comes with five postcards, a little sticker, and a slip-case that the jewel box fits in. I can't say for sure if that's how the Japanese version STILL comes (might've been a limited edition thingy). If the added goodies are of no interest to you, I'd suggest saving a few more bucks and ordering from Laser's Edge, Knights of the Round, or Alta Mira instead.
