If you can figure out how to subscribe to an automated mailing list,
you can figure out how to be a good citizen. I could probably count
the absolute black-and-white rules of this list on one hand. The very
few other rules that we have all agreed on as a whole serve to make
the reading experience more pleasant for everybody. If you can figure
out how to subscribe, but you don't know how to use your e-mail
program, then, yeah, you're a moron.

If you know how, and just refuse to do it in order to piss people off,
    then you're an asshole.

BTW, most programs for Micro$oft GUI systems have a menu in the top
right portion of the screen called "Help". Has *anyone* ever thought
    to look there?

Actually, some prog (or just about any music genre for that matter) purveryors
do follow the "you will listen to it and you will like it" attitude Brian has
suggested. However, I think it is more on the other end of the stick where
the problem lies. The immediate disdain for music outside your FAVORITE music
circle is intolerable. Let's face it - we've all been subject to it at one
time in our lives - but realize that its as simple as "do I like what I am
    hearing?".

And I don't believe repeated listenings of something you don't like is
necessary to "give it a chance". The best way to handle music you don't like
is just accept you don't like it, but may like it 6 months or even 10 years
later or you may NEVER like it.

Oops Itchy? what's happened at UBL? After being No 1 yesterday, DT seems to have completely disappeared from UBL - I couldn't even search for the band name. I can't find any trace of the band on the site.

UK Jammers might have a magazine worth reading from late September when Metal Hammer produce the first edition of 'Classic Rock' which is purported to feature Genesis, Yes, Supertramp and other Golden Oldies. while offering 'expert ' assessment on bands from Van Halen to Vangelis, Rush to Radiohead (according to the Press Release). Sounds promising!

Should be a good opportunity for DT to get some decent press for the new Live Album, rather than wasting any money advertising in Kerrapp or metal Hammer

I d suggest that we vote for just one song, and give the 3 votes that everyone is entitled to give to that one DT song.....

My pick would be....Learning to Live It would be cool if we all jammers vote for the same song....but we must agree on which song would be the chosen one..... Just a thought......

    Hey there,

    Isaac wrote so eloquently:

    >>I have always thought of music as a vibe. When I'm jamming with someone, I'm >>not thinking of my sick aunt, my dead cat or world hunger. Wherever that vibe >>takes me becomes my music. But that may just be me. I don't really try to put >>emotion into songs. I kinda hope it comes out because I have a passion to >>create music and enjoy it. Does anyone agree or disagree?

I agree with you there. I don't really think of too much as far as tangible things, or people when I write music. But once I write a small part of something, and continue to develop it, I usually have some sort of vision of a place, moment in time, atmosphere. You know? LIke a song I wrote recently on keys for a software intro animation I created, kinda made me feel like I was in the 14th-15th century. It gave me that kinda feeling. And I built on that feeling with the music to try and convey the closest possible to what I was feeling when I wrote it. That's just usually my way of doing things.

I understand what you mean that you can't really say that someone doesn't have feeling. But I also kinda disagree. I realize that most everyone does it for the passion and love of it, and will most often insert his/her feelings into the music. But it doesn't always mean it was the best possible lick/riff/solo etc for that particular song. I know, I know, they wrote it, and used what they thought was right for the song. But so many times I've heard things that were so beautiful and moving, until there's this blaring 200000-notes-per-second guitar solo that just kinda ruins the mood and overall feel of the song. Obviously the author thought it was right, but the song could have been much better, in my opinion of course, with a different idea. NOw I know you can't really question feelings and emotions, but you can question the author's ability to convey that emotion. For some people, it's not always that easy. Just because they're good technically doesn't mean they are good at portraying feelings and emotions. Just like because you have a PhD, we all know that it doesn't necessarily make you a good university instructor. So many people have so many great ideas, but because they lack the ability to convey it properly, it never quite matures the way it could have. Anyhow, I could talk about this for hours, because there's not really any wrong or right, just personal opinions.

Well, Manuel, this is exactly the kind of thing that bothers me. Personally, I don't like TAMP and AL. Is that a crime? I love everything else DT has ever written, and find them to be simply brilliant. But, I happen to NOT like 2 songs. So what? I've heard both versions, and it doesn't change my mind. For me personally, it does nothing. SDV does. Those two don't. Sorry, but your comment doesn't make any sense. Telling me to stop listening to DT because I don't like a song or two? Please.

VERY true.. if it were like you need to love EVERY dream theater song there is... well there wouldnt be a lot of people on this list... ( not everyone here loves EVERY dream theater song ) Hey.. so also if someone happens to like lets say... less than 50% of DT's music.. does that make them not elegible to listen to dt.. or even consider themselves a fan...?!!

Hi. To kill the time until the next album, I'd like to tell you about the two best moments of Images and Words. I recognized how great they were from the first moment, and one of the reasons I almost sold the album back after I got it was because there were only two moments like it on the album.

The first is the whole section leading to the first chorus in "Take the Time." The second is after the intro of "Learning to Live" going up to the first chorus.

To my considerable displeasure, they did not return after their choruses (though the chunky part of LtL rox some serious nads) (well, Myung comes back a little bit near the end) (hmm, wonder what my fave song on I&W is).

Can you hear what I'm talking about? That's right, it's Myung. I know a lot of people out there were hooked to DT by Pull Me Under, but not me. This guy can groove, and you can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket. Myung probably loses his keys a lot.

Someone give this man a solo album. Just bass, drums, and sparse keys/ guitar (like LTE but not so cluttered). Don't give me bass high in the mix, give me bass highest in the mix.

yeah, they sell shirts, or at least they did at Jones Beach. They had shirts for each group that was playing. DT had a white one with the FII cover thingee on it, and a black one with the tour places on back, and picture of the band members on front. I got the black one, it was pretty damn cool.
