When I was watching sportscenter this morning, a local cable commercial
came on and it said what channel Access Entertainment was on and that
the channel is music videos only. So I switched to it and Peter Frampton
video was on. I didn't have much time to wait for another video. So does

    Hi there Ytse Bunch,

Before I actually have to be taken away in my straightjacket I could use some help with the following problem. I am trying to send mail to this li= st with my other account and it never shows up. I also tried subscribing wit= h it but the only way to subscribe was using the account I'm using now and then send a command to listserv to change it. =

The address I'm trying to use for the jam is Ytseddy@carpe-diem.demon.nl.=

Would anyone have any idea why the mail I send with this account is never=

showing up on the jam and why I could not subscribe with it? Or does the list only accept flames at this moment <G>

Thanx in advance for your help,

    Ytseddy

    Hey jammers,

Man, getting lessons from Derek??? How cool is that! I agree with the guy wanting lessons from Myung....he's amazing! I'd love to just sit down with him sometime and he could show me a few things. When I saw them, he's the one who impressed me the most!! On a side note, Portnoy was nothing like I thought he would be in concert...he's very energetic, which I had imagined, but man, does he ever make the drumming look easy...especially that 6:00 intro. I believe he had said in an interview that it was the most challenging drum pattern on Awake. It didn't seem that way at the concert :)

On another note, does anyone know where James Labrie got his vocal training? I imagine it's in Toronto somewhere....I live in Ottawa, only about 4 1/2 hours away... I really want to take singing lessons, but not sure what the best way to go is. I would think opera training would be great, because it develops your voice properly, and then you can pretty much do what you want with your own style after because your voice is so developed. Any suggestions? James? Mike? Anyone?

    Vince

PS - Anyone remember James Labrie with Winter Rose back in the 80s? Hehehe, it's funny when I think of him singing with someone other than DT....

    Hey jammers,

I can't remember which jammer had the long winded post about feeling music, and feeling colors...(red, blue, etc...and visualizing and smelling onions being cooked). Anyhow, I completely agree with her. I get so much more out of music than just organized notes, and patterns. I remember the first time I heard ACoS...wow!!!!!!! It blew me away. Especially the part "Preparing for her flight, I held with all my might..................I said I love you.....Goodbye" That's so rich and powerful. The trick here is to intertwine the lyrics and the music. He's dealing with a woman leaving, etc...and the music reflects the emotions. Then all of a sudden, everything stops, and he just says "Goodbye". That part actually gives me the chills. It's so well done. Then right after, to reflect what one could be feeling, the music gets very chaotic....aggressive, James screaming in the background, loud. Man, it really suits the mood!!!

I feel the same kind of thing with Peruvian Skies. It's great how it's really mellow at the beginning, and at the end, the lyrics are repeated, but with more agression, more passion, a different feeling than the beginning. That's what's amazing. The ability to repeat the same patterns, lyrics even, and completely change the feel of the passage. DT will never cease to amaze me.

If you want a good mood CD, buy 1492 by Vangelis. Man, that thing transports me to another time...it really brings me to that year. It's impressive!! Very powerful.

    Vince

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Rhys remarked: > Consider yourself fortunate you were able to see one of my erstwhile > "guitar heroes".

Oh, I am. Trust me on this one. I was disappointed there weren't more people there.

    > The guitarists may do a clinic or two - we had Paul Gilbert here > recently - but they are not publicised greatly or held during the > evenings or weekends and are in small music shops which can hold less > than 50 people. An unbearable situation for any fan who works full time.

This one wasn't greatly publicized either. There were flyers in the Guitar Center stores in the area, but that was IT. If I hadn't been in Guitar Center twice in the past month (once for the Portnoy clinic and once to buy myself a new Korg N264) I wouldn't have known about it anyway.

    > Anyway, griping over, I'm still trying to get me hands on some of the > earlier Gary Hoey CDs (Ho Ho Hoey, Bug Alley etc) as well as the Heavy > Bones album he appeared on. Does anyone have these and think they could > give an unbiased review ?

    Yes to both.

"Ho Ho Hoey": This is a kickass album, like most of Gary's stuff. He played all the instruments and handled the drum programming. It was recorded in his home studio, so he was really surprised with how professional and huge-sounding it came out. It is really an excellent CD, with a cool set of songs. No vocals.

Tracklisting: (* marked for what I think are the best tracks)

The Twelve Days of Christmas Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer * Away In A Manger Jingle Bells * God Rest Blue Christmas O Come All Ye Faithful * White Christmas * Little Drummer Boy * Silent Night Auld Lang Syne

"Bug Alley". Now *this* is an excellent disc. Recorded with fretless bass master Tony Franklin and drum wizard Gregg Bissonnette, the disc opens with a slamming song called "Desire" which adapts J.S. Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" for guitar (and boy, is it impressive!) All the way through, Gary's trademark sound is indelibly stamped on every track. Brian Setzer plays on the title track ("Bug Alley" was the name of an auto repair garage where Gary rented a room to write the album, and is also where he first met Setzer). Excellent production, with the instruments' mix as near to perfection as is possible.

Oh, and Gary sings on a few tracks on this one! He's really a much better vocalist than many "previously instrumental" guitarists who've decided to try the vocal thing.

Tracklisting: (* marks the best tracks)

Desire * Tribal War Babies Black Magic Woman Yeah * Bug Alley Peace Pipe * Karma Climb Have To Serve Somebody Moustache Muchacho * Coasting The Green Room

Both discs are well worth getting. Check out http://www.hoey.net/ for more info.

Sure enough, DT is not in the top 100 anymore, and a search turns up nothing. There is a way to check them out, though. Just go to the last week's top 100 list and check it there. I'm not sure if that will get DT any points towards the list though. Probably not. I'm sure that DT should at least have been somewhere in the top 100 if they stopped it mid-week. I say we all flame those assholes and tell them to shove it up there asses. They should feel priveleged we even visited their crappy site!
