I have no I idea, but maybe it has to do with all the Rush/DT

hear DT do full versions of "The Analog Kid" or "By-tor and the Snowdog"
, or maybe a quicker version of "2112".

Now, here is a person who has 32 Wakeman albums, i.e. is nuts about the
guy, and then looses all interest in Wakeman's next project because Trevor
Rabin participates! What is this - a taboo game or an interest only in what
names are on the cover of the albums you buy? What about the goddamn music?!

Not that I think the Return To The Center of the Earth sounds like a
particular good idea...but he is a bit short of good ideas, don't you think?

    Nah, enough flaming for today.

    Stefan

    >Now, onto Rick Wakeman. Kick ass. Yeah, I have been told he
    >doesn't write much, just keyboard parts to Yes songs...

You mean, he didn't write much with Yes, because he's put out more
than 50 albums and he writes everything on them! I have at least 32,
and still a long way to go!
Just recently I read about his 'Return to the Center of the Earth':
one of the guest musicians is (saddly for me) Trevor Rabin! It seems
that they got along fine on stage during the Union tour, jamming
together. Anyway, I don't like TR, so I've lost all interest in
    RttCotE.

that I would put the list out there to see if anyone is interested in

I have a serious question here. I'm in the process of writing a story based on an original Transformer I have recently created. I want to base the story on ACOS, and I need to know how far I can go with it without pissing off the band or their legal friends. This will also effect a plot I have based on Metro Pt 1 (and 2 once its released). In both cases, I would like to quote directly from the lyrics. I will be doing the usual disclaimer (as I need to put one in the story to keep from pissing off Hasbro). Is any of this going to be a problem? Mike? Derek?

Actually I like more of that pretty little solo that comes just *before* that part. Awesome!! Definitely my favorite Derek moment in DT.

Any news is appreciated. > Jam on! JK >

There have been stories all over the net of Van Halen cancelling shows due to poor ticket sales. %50 of the european tour was cancelled because of some injury Alex sustained while a drop ceiling fell on him. I don't know if I really believe that too much. It's convenient that Alez got hurt when Van Halen were having trouble filling %20 of a venue. I mean, drop ceiling???? Give me a break....I could throw 5 drop cieling panels on someone and it wouldn't hurt....oh well...who am I to judge!

Getting back to the States, Van Halen has been received with very mixed emotions. Apparently, there have been sections of the US that simply can not sell tickets. This has forced Van Halen to give tousands of tickets to radio stations instead of selling them. I've been told by misguided Van Halen supporters that this is simply because times-are-a-changing. You know, Van Halen has changed and people don't like change. I don't know if you can make it that complicated. We can get very simple here:

-- People don't like the album -- It's not selling at all -- People have reservations about seeing a band support a crappy album -- people simply do not go to the shows.

Now having said all of that, I saw Van Halen with Gary Cherone at Madison Square Garden this past May and the place was sold out. So was Jones Beach Theater (on Long Island) this past Saturday. I only attended the May concert because I thought it sucked. Folks, I've been to more Van Halen concerts than you can shake a stick at....and this past one was the worst one I have ever been to. It's not about change.....it's just plain old bad!!!! That's why I didn't go to the show at the beach.......Who knows.....maybe New York is one of those markets that Van Halen is thriving in.

I come back from a well-deserved break and find myself maligned. Suddenly, it appears the organ has ceased to be a keyboard instrument. Well, just slap me with a 16' Stop. I guess it's a wind instrument, hmmm? (That for all you novices is sarcasm at its finest.)

Well since you didn't like my opinion on Tony Kaye, I shall be forced to subject you all to another round of "Paul's Opinionated Corner" and fling out a couple more faves, bespattering you all with electronic residue. <villainous laugh> <thunder> HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! </thunder> </villainous laugh>

Richard Wright: Sheep Ken Hensley: July Morning Clive Nolan: In the Blink of An Eye

What about fave guitar moments (see what this keyboard thread can spawn?)

Tom Scholz: Peace of Mind Frank Zappa: Watermelon in Easter Hay Jeff Beck: Ballad of Bill Hubbard

    Drum moments?

Chester Thompson: Inca Roads Bill Bruford: Discipline

    Flute moments?

Ian Anderson: Rare and Precious Chain Peter Gabriel: The Knife

    Bass moments:

Tony Levin: Secret World Dude from Primus: Amos Moses

    Horn section moments?

Chicago: Beginnings Tower of Power: What is Hip? EWF: Paperlate

This can of course be carried into absurdity-say fave singer strangling a note moment (Bruce Dickinson-Run to the Hills (on A Real Dead One)), etc. NB-this is not meant as encouragement, merely to demonstrate the lengths to which this thread can be taken. Enjoy.
