    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

After reading my musings on the "drummers of Symphony X" mess, Joe D.
    inquired:
    > The guy from TiO (Tom Walling) left already?

According to sometime 'jammer Steve Vogel, who works with Russell at a day
job, Tom left the band because he had "commitments" which would keep him
from touring. So Jason Rullo rejoined. I don't know the circumstances
because I was already off the Symphony X mailing list by the time this
    discussion started.

Steve, you still on here? What's the story?

    Ta,
    Phil

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Woops. Somebody already answered the Symphony X query I just posted about.
    Sorry for the wasted bandwidth.

    Jani inquired:
    > By the way, tell me something about Queensryche's
    > "Operation:Mindcrime".Is it as good as "Empire" is?I have ordered it
    > couple of months ago,but still haven't received it...

Good to have you back on the list, Jani.

In answer: No, it's not as good. It's better. "Operation: Mindcrime" is
one of my top ten discs of all time as far as prog music goes. (It's also
one of the best concept discs ever, but that's another story). Fantastic
melodic twin-guitar attack, a complex and intriguing story, and Geoff Tate
at the absolute tip-top of his vocal power. When (and if) it finally
arrives, you'll be kicking yourself for overlooking it so long.

    Dushko inquired:
    > Also, can someone tell me a name of any Kenny Wayne Shepard album? How
    > many they have? I just saw video clip on TV and LOVED it! Haven't seen
    > anyone plays so similar to Stevie Ray Vaughan style!

Yes, and that's the main problem most people have with KWS. I think he's
extraordinarily talented, meself. The boy does need to find his own voice,
though; he does Stevie Ray excellently well, but he doesn't need to copy
anyone's tone, as he's good enough to stand on his own.

Ah well. He's still young; plenty of time to find his own voice. It took
    Petrucci a while too.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd's latest album is called "Trouble Is". It's worth
    picking up.

    Ta,
    Phil

listen, testicle mosquitoe. i'm sick and tired of hearing people trash
on what KS did with processing and stuff. let's ask ourselves a
question. if the band didn't like the changes he made, would they keep
him or the changes themselves? i highly doubt it. i also doubt that
your opinion will have any bearing on future releases. if you don't
like FII, fine. but keep it to yourself. this is a DT mailing list,
not a forum for you to spead your disease.

you have your opinion of what the music is like , that's fine. opinions
are something you have when you don't have all the facts. when you have
all the facts, you don't need an opinion. to tell us that shirley sucks
is quite the assumption and i think that his sexual preference should be
respected just as we respect dereks. as far as his skills in mixing and
producing, could you do better? that's not even a question worth
    asking. of course you can't.

i.e. shut up, insect. you bother me, i'm sure you bother others.

get a real alias and quit defaming a real artist. the real geddy lee is

I have a serious question here. I'm in the process of writing a story
based on an original Transformer I have recently created. I want to base
the story on ACOS, and I need to know how far I can go with it without
pissing off the band or their legal friends. This will also effect a
plot I have based on Metro Pt 1 (and 2 once its released). In both
cases, I would like to quote directly from the lyrics. I will be doing
the usual disclaimer (as I need to put one in the story to keep from
pissing off Hasbro). Is any of this going to be a problem? Mike? Derek?
    </quote>
I'm going to take it by the lack of responce to my post that this is OK.

It's the official Enchant page. It's under Accounts I think. It's always
out of date, though. Inside Out has more current info, but I don't know
    their URL.

    >As far as I know, Michael Geimer was allready out of the band once in 1995.

Benignus IS Mike Geimer. :D You probably knew that, but your wording made
it sound otherwise. :) According to the site (the way I remember it), Mike
left the band after the Dream Theater tour in April this year.

    >Ed Platt has left the band early this year and now this :-(((((((((((

Ed left? Faugh! I missed that one! (begs for spandex bitch to get off the
    'net. Work sucks.)

    >Btw, Korgx3 didn't you had an Enchant page which was 10000 x better than
the >official one which still says "The band will record the new album in
    summer or >something".

    Ummm... I don't remember making that........ Well, I guess I did. I've
finally had upload access for a few months now, but have been too lazy to
redesign the page. :\ I started working on it last week as a matter of
fact. I'm planning on upping it very soon. It'll now be called Purely
    Enchant. Keep an eye out.

Fuck, I hope Ed's not out, too! Gaaaahhh...

    Hey jammers,

What's up? My cousin and I were just hanging out the other day, and we started to wonder about big name bands that had a big impact on how music is today. And we came to the startling conclusion that most of them were British. If you have any insight, or you think I'm crazy, please let me know. But here's what we came up with.

The Beatles Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Genesis Yes Rolling Stones Rush (Canadian) AC/DC (Australian) Elton John Deep Purple

As for the American influences, we couldn't really come up with any big ones that were before the British ones.

Elvis (The whole pop thing) Michael Jackson (pop thing again) Van Halen (possibly infulenced by Zeppelin, or another British band?)

Maybe I just can't think of any, but every time I do, it usually stems back to a British band. Any thoughts on this?

    Vince
