Subject: cd writer question
Message-ID: <35DD7444.E81460CC@trw.com>
I made my first audio cd last night for my new cd write (HP 7200i).
I recorded like 15 songs onto the cd-r disc. As it turns out the 3rd
track only had 17 seconds of the 4 minute song record to the disc. The
other tracks seem to be their correct length. I was using MAXELL discs
which I bought for 10 cents each after the $20 rebate...
So does anyone know why this occurred?
Can I erase this track since it is annoying without screwing the cd up?
The software I used came with the cdwriter. I think it is called
Easy-CD.
Any help would be appreciated.
POWERMAD tonight!

Also what is better to make audio cds? Should I do the songs one by one or copy all the ones you want as .wav files to the hard disk then make the cd? -- |----------------------------------------------------------------| | Pat Daugherty Email: Pat.Daugherty@trw.com | | Web : http://www.abs.net/~patnbeck/pat/pat.html | |================================================================| | "That is not an option, Mr. Mulder" -- X-Files | |----------------------------------------------------------------|

On Fri, 21 Aug 1998, Jason T. Breitweg bitched (again) about Mike Bahr:
> Yeah I know some more about him. He is a guy that owes me 4 CDs (or > it is 3?) and won't answer e-mail I send to him. Hey Mike, I know my > computer is configured right maybe yours is to blame. Or do you just > ignore my mail?
I hope he *is* ignoring your mail. This is your second or third post this week just to whine about Mike. If you'd read Mike's closing Prism post, or his website, you'd know that he's still working on filling all the rest of his orders that he took prior to Wednesday of this week. So sit ya butt down, have a beer, and wait the 6-8 months or longer like everyone else who bought a disc from Mike did.
And Mosh... where's my sex?

Guys,
My final word... I thought that Tom was a little extreme to suggest that I had made the worst decision of my life not to use click tracks, but I would suggest that everyone that can use them - should. I personally don't like them, this is due mainly to the fact that my band played, what we always called "Techno-head-metal", that is hectic, technical thrash with a whole bunch of crazy riffs and time changes. When you're doing a 3 song demo in a 16 track studio over the space of 3 days, fucking around with click tracks is never high on the agenda.
I've never actually sat with a metronome to see how in/out of time our work was, but I was always proud of the outcome and that is the main thing. It is good to see some drum threads happening though! - keep it up guys.

Touche! I should have. I usually do. Three weeks away from the Jam, I just couldn't wait to go postal. Luckily I was able to substitue one addiction for another. You Belgians produce some kick ass chocolate!

That's what he said :)
The Earle of Jason: > They eat, they sleep, they take the occasional big hairy shit. Learn to > accept this.
Nice :) I wonder if they sleep much, though.
Tarkus: > Think we should form our own religion? The Reverend John Myung Moon perhaps? :)
How'z about a Heavy Metal Worshipping Hour on Sunday morning in the time slot opposite Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggert et al.
Can I get a "PRAISE THE SHRED?"
Damon: > FII is a very bitter album.
And understandably so. They've had to endure a lot as a band. I happen to think it's a great album. FII stands on its own, without any need to compare it to any other DT album. JLMB at 3:21 is worth the price of admission :) Mike, who thought up that intro to the solo section? That is just something you don't hear much (ever?) on the radio. It's too whacked!! :) > Not dark, there is a difference.
Don't you find ToT to be a little on the dark side though?
Calvin6S: > By mixing it on a REFERENCE (Flat EQ) system, they find > a nice area that won't OVER emphasize or demphasize any frequency.
My understanding also is that by leaving the EQ flat, you are being more faithful to the original sound source. JP, for example, is setting the sound the way HE wants it to sound.
Not sure if it's still true, but JBL for years had some of the best studio monitors when it came to being flat. The speakers have always been what I spend the most time checking out when purchasing a system.
As someone recently said, if you want to add/remove shiz after the fact, that's what the eq knobbies are for :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About the VH thread, maybe I missed it, but no one even mentions the first two albums, as if VH wasn't even a band in the mid 70's :) To me, those were VH's best. Light Up the Sky rocks! For many a band that has any success (musically), their first few albums are usually some of their best stuff.
Just to clear up the confusion, Bafu WILL BE coming back to the list in a few weeks / couple months maybe. I talked to him online and he said that he just had "too much to do" for a while and didn't have time to keep up with the jams.. but don't worry, we'll soon be seeing him again!
DTC: I finally got Awake and ACoS back after months.. I was going into some serious withdrawal.. but this is good, because now they won't be leaving the changer for quite some time... also, Derek didn't respond to my IM's until I talked about women! He must be impeached!
Well, as it seems the YtseCD project is starting up a little again (possibly), I hope some of you Ytsejammers can help me out. I have recorded an MP3 of me and a keyboardist friend playing an original composition of mine called "Fall-Out Overture." Obviously, you can tell what's missing: bass and drums. If any of you would be willing to play those tracks I would be most grateful. I can probably write a bass part without too much trouble, but, not knowing much about playing drums, I couldn't do anything there. E-mail me privately or on the YtseCD list, please.
Hello,
>Ed's solo in, for example, the "Live Without a Net" video. There wasn't a >guitarist then or now who could play like that (except Ed).
Whoa! This is a very baseless claim. That video was from what, 1986-87? I could fire off a list of players who hit the big time before then: Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani to name just three. Not only that, but if you've seen that video, then you've seen Eddie's solo for the last ten years. VERY little of it was different on ensuing tours. To me that's pretty bad, when your guitar solo doesn't change from tour to tour. If you remember, when VH released 5150, DLR released Eat Em and Smile. I don't think there's any question the Vai is a superior guitarist to Eddie, so saying the above quote is quite erroneous. And as for the Randy Rhoads-EVH comparison, keep in mind that Randy was playing the club scene at the exact same time as Eddie. Its just that VH got a major contract and Quiet Riot didn't.
>Ed is, and always has been, the music writer for VH.
This also is wrong. The music has always been written by the band. In the Sammy years, Sammy also had a hand in writing the music as he played guitar. Ed may write a lot of the music, but not ALL. Eddie was saddled with the moniker of King and has a legion of fans who refuse to believe he is anything else. They defend his albums with little concept of what others are speaking about, they just pump out facile retributions. I'm amazed at several aspects of the Van Halen craze, not the least of which is how people buy his ridiculously overpriced guitars. I love Van Halen albums, and I still love Sammy Hagar's stuff that he's putting out, but I no longer have the affinity for the band Van Halen that I once had. They haven't shown me with the new album that they're even trying anymore. As for "3" being considered a party album, I don't understand how it COULD be, since there are only 2 or 3 songs that aren't just mid-tempo or less. Only Without You is really catchy and fun, and Dirty Water Dog and One I Want are the only other "pop-rock" songs on the disc. Most of the rest is complete drudgery. If you put Year to the Day or Josephina on at any frat party, you'd be hard pressed to keep your guests around.
Hi everyone, IMHO Awake is more Floyd-like than FII in terms of sound quality. I am not saying that FII sucks but in some parts it sounds kind of flat to me. But when you listen to Awake, you discover a lot of things when you crank up your HiFi or when you use headphones. You need good equipment to "feel" this album. It's like Pink Floyd "Dark side of the Moon" you either have to crank up a good hi-fi or listen to it with headphones to feel amazed. It sucks in boom boxes.
Just a small detail. The drummers job is, in my opinion, not to keep the beat. If you are famous players and you can't keep beat, you shouldn't be famous. The drummers job is to keep the GROOVE, which is very different. That's my philosophy on drumming.
