Well, that was when YOU saw G3 which was likely on the first leg with Eric
Johnson. On the second leg with KW Shepherd, they played this section
(Angel Food?). Kenneally was on keys. I saw both legs BTW. :)
As for that Gibson Chet Atkins model, one should also take note that the
case for this guitar comes in at $1300. This reminds of a time I was in NYC
looking at guitars. There's this section of town where Manny's and Sam Ash
and all the stores are clustered together. Anyway, there's this one store
where you go in and there are red velvet lined cases with guitars shining
under spotlights. So I walk up to one and read the little tag. This one I
see was owned by Tom Petty and was selling for $15,000. For a guitar owned
by TOM PETTY? The guy's not even dead yet! There were some other ones
there, but they were all the same: owned by guitarists still living who
aren't renowned for their playing abilities. It just goes to show that some
folks'll drop a dime on anything.

This baffles me as well. They weigh a ton, have uncomfortable angles to the
body, and aren't distinctive at all (Christ, there's a few thousand out
there in the world). The only benefits I can see are individual tone and
volumes for each pickup and a pu switch above the neck. Aside from that,
they are nothing special. Well, to me they're not.
What really gets me is how there is NO difference between a Gibson and
Epiphone Les Paul except the price! (And the pickups, but that's easy to
fix) At least with Squier and Fender, the differences are large and easy to
determine. But I'd take an Ibanez Artist any day over a Les Paul.

I saw Saviour Machine the other night at Tomfest in Texas. they did
rock pretty hard! I think they are kinda more gothic than prog,
though. Being a Christian, I love how most of the lyrics are straight
scripture, the orchastration is amazing. I never thought they could
pull it off live, but they did. Another awesome Christian band is
Embodyment. They are more metal, but they have alot of technical
parts. Also, if anyone likes Primus, you can check out my band " The
Diezman Trio" Alot of people say that we are mix between Dream Theater
and Primus. We played at Tomefest this weekend too. There were over
100 bands there, and most of them were pretty good!!! I'm really sick
of sucky punk and ska bands though.....

I was killing time at the coconuts on 50th and 6th ave, by radio city
music hall, and I found this cd by a band called Entwine. the sticker
said, "Maidenesque twin guitars" and something about british goth metal.
Well, what the fuck, i have no income, let's waste money! it turns out
they're pretty rockin' but it takes some time to get used to the singer,
because he sucks. But all around, this is a good listen. they have
keyboards, bass, two guitars and percussion. I believe the vocalist is
also the rythem guitar so there's four guys. Anyone else here of these
guys?

I'm sure Robert Fripp and Steve Stevens would disagree. (Let alone Mike Bahr, but that was another fairytale, wasn't it?) If you can call those guys' sound non-versatile, I must have what you're on. :-) (Black Light Syndrome, for some obviously very versatile sound, comfortably played ultra-fast licks and what not, and anything by King Crimson + ProjeKCt 2 + Fripp's solo works.)

Hmmmm last time Skadz posted the number of people on the jam, I think it was around 1400. It's a pretty good guestimation that the number of 'Jam members hovers between 1200 - 1400. Especially with school starting up we lose some and gain some due to various reasons. But who knows if several people drop around the same time and the list goes down to 1000...

Thank you so much for the tickets. The seats were great! The show you guys put on was first rate. I'm glad the sound staff didn't fuck you guys, the mix was almost perfect.
The first half of ELP was boring... But the second half, wow.
DP was a unexpected treat. I've seen them several times during the 70s & 80s. Steve breathes new life into that band. The old duffers still have some miles left.
Ian's vocals sucked. What I find amusing, is that the DP fans just accepted this as a normal live performance. If Labrie did that, the jam would grill him.
High standards are set when perfection is a trademark. It must be challenging as hell to continue to please the most rabid fans in the world.
I still want that damn sig! I know you have little control on your bus departure, but the back stage passes still paid off, I got to meet Steve Morse. Steve is very vocal about John's abilities, and has a tremendous amount of respect for him as a musician, and a man. Nice guy!
So, you still owe me a sig. Beth and I thank you so much. And two other people were given a chance to see a great show that they otherwise would have missed. So our old tickets went to good use.

18-08-98 show, Molson Center, Montreal, Canada
Just thought I'd use a few minutes ro give my impressions on yesterday night's show here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
I came in a 7:30 sharp and Dream Theater had already started. I didn't know anything about the band but I must say I was pleaseantly surprised. These guys are heavy, tight and they put on a great show. A great prog-metal band that is definitely worth checking out.. --------------------------------------------------- August 18 Montreal Show review
Well what a night it has been. The show started about 10 minutes early. Dream Theater put on a good 50 minute set. Can't say much as it was the first time I had heard them. Tight band though and were quite well received. ------------------------------------------------------ We'll, I just thought I would make a few comments on the show at Cuyahoga falls, Ohio. The show was scheduled at 7:00 but when I got there at 10 till 7 dream theater was just starting, so I missed a little of that show, but what I did see was good, those guys stay together very well. I was impressed! But they only played for about 40 minutes. ------------------------------------------------ 1) DT rocked! All dressed in black, very heavy, very tight. You get the idea. Make sure you catch them! Unfortunately, I missed the first part of their set. Did they start early, or was I a little late? I think both. So make sure you get there early. They are definitely worth it. Had lots of fans there, too, for an opening band. The sound? So-so. As posted before, too bass-heavy. -------------------------------------------------------- Dream Theater The opening act was Dream Theater, they offered a good performance, although I'm not very familiar with their music. It was mostly appreciated by the younger part of the audience. -------------------------------------------------------- Dream theater I love this band, and they did not disappoint me. Recognized a couple of tunes from Images & Words album, (pull me under). I loved the way they played some Floyd & Metallica riffs in the middle of "Peruvian sunrise??" I'm surprised though, that they are not nearly as popular here in the US as they are in Europe, being a young band & all that. --------------------------------------------------- PNC Review Let's see... I'd never even heard of Dream Theater before, but they were excellent (especially the bass player). A friend of mine was at the Jones Beach gig. Baer in mind that this guy is in his late 40's/early 50's and was pretty much there to see Deep Purple. We only spoke for a few moments but here's what someone, who had never heard any Dream Theater up until that point, had to say:
"They are really talented. I enjoyed heavy stuff as well as the ballads."
"Man, that bass player was good!"
