    Not true the track "Bankok" is from Chess and it says so in the inlay card but
    the track we are talking about is The Fire Garden Suite.

    For the person who talked about seeing Mike Keneally playing on this track
    live, I don't think they played any of the Fire Garden Suite When I saw G3 (it
    was a while ago) but the thing that amazed me was "Answers" where he was
    playing rhythm guitar, the keys, then the toms then harmonizing with the great
    man Vai. That was impressive.

    BTW does anyone have the G3 video. If so can you email me (privatly or to the
    jam) about whether on your version you can hear Eric Johnson because you can't
    on mine?

            Considering this is one of very few places my opinions on music may
    actually be read, I figured I'd chime in. Everett said:

    There are six traditional jazz artists (instrumental) that I think everyone
    would agree you should have SOMETHING by: Miles Davis, John Coltrane,
    Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk. They
    have had the greatest influence on subsequent artists. Look for the
    copyright dates on Miles albums though. Stuff in the seventies and after
    may throw you off if you get that first.
            As for contemporary artists, I suggest five more: Joshua Redman, Pat
    Metheny, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, and Marcus Roberts. Anything by
    those guys is good stuff, but be careful with Metheny. He has some albums
    that are not for the timid listener.

    This I think is a LOT more subjective. There are albums that are generally
    coinsidered great that I don't care that much for, but I'll give you my top
    ten. Since you say "cornerstones" this, to me, would eliminate recent
    releases from contention, but I included a few because they are truly
    extraordinary.

    1) Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain
    2) John Coltrane - My Favorite Things
    3) Dave Brubeck - Time Out
    4) Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden - Beyond the Missouri Sky
    5) Thelonius Monk & Sonny Rollins - Thelonius Monk/Sonny Rollins
    6) Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool
    7) Stan Getz - Best of the West Coast Sessions
    8) Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
    9) Charlie Parker - Yardbird Suite
    10) Marcus Roberts - Time and Circumstance

    There are a load of compilation and "greatest hits" albums out there for
    the older artists (Diz, Satchmo) but be wary of these. The selection can be
    quite atrocious as I found out from one Charlie PArker compilation. Try to
    find a place that lets you listen first. And under no circumstances should
    you buy a CD from the 1980's until you've assembled a solid collection.
    Most of the stuff from that period, even stuff from esteemed artists, is
    CRAP.
            Remember, this is just a SHORT list. Any questions, let me know!

    Anybody knows the "1884" album (title correct?) of Janet Jackson?
    That album was my 2-nd bought tape in my life. There was a great song on
    it called "Black Cat".
    I remember I liked it very much. It had awesome intro guitar solo and
    also the whole song is rockin'. Real Hard Rock Pop stuff. :-)

    I guess that even these pop stars were inviting good players on their
    albums. 'Cause you know who plays guitar on this song? The master, Nuno
    Bettencourt!!! Yep, I read it just now. :-)

    I still keep 3 songs of this album on a tape which is NP and also the
    bass guitar is great. I don't know who he is but I bet he's also one of
    the top ones.
    Yep, Pop music was much better back in those days.

    Probably because they're factoring in probability. In this world, there are
    enough people living in it that it opens just about anything up to
    possibility. Therefore, I'm sure they are running on the probability that,
    given 10 billion people, 20 of those people will be stupid enough to buy one
    of those guitars. I also bet that if they even sell a single one, it will
    probably make up for the costs needed to create the entire line, so they
    won't lose anything.

    Then there's those people that will accidentally write in the wrong item id
    number and get sent one of these prizes by mistake. There's more than
    likely a no return policy in that event. Heheheh. Lahoo. Saher.

    I dont know man.. i wouldnt care if there were gonna build 5 of them! I still wouldnt pay 40k for that guitar...well unless i was a billionaire or something..and i still doubt it..not because of the money..but because i dont like the guitar at all....theres so much a person can do with 40k...to be spending it on a gibson chet atkins..

    On another note...guitarwise, i know a lot of people, including myself, hold ibanez as their guitar of choice, ( although id love to get my hands on a PRS ) , but MANY people just have an obsesion with gibson and lespauls, ..besides the wood thing, why are lespauls so coveted...since i dont know..but IMO they dont sound too great..(versatile?) and I find them very uncomfortable to play....

    Wow, I would have expected that the hi-hat was overdubbed. I actually started doing the hi-hat w/out the flams on the first set. I have to see when the flams come in, I wonder if it's possible to pull the first set off without overdubbing. I know the 16th notes in the second run are impossible to do while keeping the hi-hat going. I'm not even going to try. I just do the Timbale on that one. In any case, it's my fav song to play. Second now is Paradigm Shift of LTE. Awesome song! There are so many though, Take the Time, etc... I saw someone elses post, I believe it was Dave, and it read "nice to see some drum threads"! I agree whole heartedly. That's one of the biggest reasons I joined this mailing list. If anyone in the Northern Jersey area or even the city plays guitar or bass, let me know. I'd love to jam to some Rush or DT songs. Later.

It s the little guitar solo=20 after TLF in the LiT video, am i right?....but tunes like Love Secrets,=20 Liberty and FGS are more like full compositions....instead of just=20 writing a chord progression (i have no clue if that=B4s what JP did...) and= =20 soloing over it..... =09Add "The god eaters" to that list too......all written down=20 before Vai actualy played it.
