Actually, the British Invasion was started in the 1960s. There was
the Yarbirds, Cream, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc. The 70s
did lead to more british bands but the so-called 'British Invasion'
was definatly the late 50s-thru 1960s. And you also listed Metallica
as an American influence--don't forget that Metallica's original style
was considered "new-wave european" metal. But I digress--NO MORE non
DT content for me. I hope. ;-)

    Hello all.
On the heals of my "rip" of VH, I figured I'd elaborate further on
    Drum Posture.
Since the beginning of time drummers have been trying to "perfect"
rudiments and finally technique. If you want to see perfect posture, check on
Buddy Rich in his prime. If you want to see perfect posture check out these
guys (Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Terry Bozzio, Nick Menza and any other drummer
    that is well regarded)
I have seen a "downward spiral" when it comes to technique. You can
really tell a good player from a bad player. A good player will sit upright,
not slumped over the drums (Alex Van Halen).
At Ozzfest, I noted quickly poor posture by the drummer for Coal
Chamber, Sevendust and Soulfly. They all slumped over A LOT. Not just to
reach for cymbals. Their hands were flying over their heads. It made me
    sick.
These "new" bands are sorta the future of rock in general. They have a
huge following and are setting a poor example with posture. Maybe I'm just
very critical, but it bothers me.
Okay, I'm off the soapbox. later, J

I hope this isn't a crazy off the wall question, but I appear to have
asked it to late at the chat the other night on Rockonline. So here it
goes, in Metropolis, around 5:00 into the song, there's a part on the
drums where two rolls are played to measures apart on Timbales. During
the rolls you can distinctly hear a half open hi-hat being struck to the
beat. Can anyone, especially Mike if you read this, tell me how that
was pulled off? Unless he has three hands, there's no way those flams
in the first roll can be pulled off with one, and the second roll is
almost all 16th notes. I was thinking maybe this might be heard from
the "Click Track" he's talked about in his clinics, but I thought that's
probably stretching it. I don't know exactly what a Click Track is,
I've never seen or heard one. Anyway, I was leading more towards
believing that it was overdubbed. That would just go to show you what
effort and detail was put into that INCREDIBLE ALBUM!! Well, I hope
    someone can answer my question.

    Nice talkin to ya!

Again, thanks to all who asked for a specific size. At this point, the
shirts have arrived, which means I can make no size guarantees on future
requests. :-o I don't think there will be a huge problem, because I
can always order more shirts, but

    - I wanted to try and use the ones I ordered before I ordered more
    shirts, and
    - you might have to wait for the shirt to arrive.

As it stands now, if there are no more special requests, I think I can
accomodate almost everyone who's asked for a certain size.

This was written before "Wounded" was released http://www.ccnet.com/~theoasis/ (An Account)

"An unforgettable tour-highlight was a foray into the far east of Germany, to the city of Zschopau, in which the boys played at a Country and Western Bar (the town's only club!), on a makeshift stage, long and narrow, with a threadbare P.A. The tour ended on a sour note, though: on the way to Calais (to catch the ferry back to Dover), the tour bus broke down, stranding all and sundry in a remote French village, on a Sunday no less, for ten-plus hours! "

"Unfortunately, the return home put some long-festering wounds into the spotlight. After a few months deliberation, it was agreed, by all, that things would be for the best if the band and Benignus parted company -- a heavy loss for the remaining foursome, to be sure. Happily, the guys are still on very friendly terms, with mutual respect intact, and no hard feelings. "

After Benignus left the band, Magna Carta released "A Blueprint Of The World" and the tributes to Pink Floyd, Yes, and Genesis with three covers by Enchant.

"Which brings us to the present. The boys are STILL writing new material, and starting to think seriously about the logistics of recording of the next album; planning has commenced. They hope to release it by late '95, or early '96, with more extensive touring to follow."

So, If Benignus left the band already, why is he on "Wounded"?, Did he rejoin the band or what?

I think that everybody has the right to their own opinion. But honestly do have to rip apart everything? If anybody can do a better job then sit your ass behind the board and see how far you get. I've been in a studio it ain't as easy as it looks or sounds. I'm pretty sure that most if not all stereos come with little knobs for adjusting bass and treble and if you get the really fancy stuff like eqs they have faders for certian frequencies. Use them. Now theres a novel idea. NP: FII and i like the way it sounds.

ok, i'm finally over the whole Dr.Mosh thing (yeah, yeah, i admit i was wrong), but now, i'm upset about one main thing. This is to the California (S.F.) people: i can only afford to go see one show a month, and i'm having trouble deciding.

1.Deep Purple, ELP, Dream Theater doubts: I don't listen to Deep Purple or ELP, and not sure if it's worth $40 to see a 45 minute opening by DT.

2.Tool, The Melvins doubts: same night as Metallica, already seen Tool twice, The Melvins suck

3.Metallica, Days of The New, Jerry Cantrell doubts:Load, Reload, hmm..., same night as Tool

Please give me some input to lead me in the right direction! (I already see everyone flaming me because i'm supposed to be at the Deep Purple show but i'm questioning it anyhow.)

Yah, my bad. I saw the Benignus leaving part and too shocked to refer to anything else, therefore jumped to a conclusion. I never knew anything about this before. But apparently, he rejoined the band prior to Wounded and is still in the band. That explains why he was absent from the Yes recordings, but appeared on Wounded. http://www.insideout.de/ has the scoop. (Thanks Steffen!) It's not completely up to date (But Steffan's post said he was working on this!) and it says nowhere of Ed's departure, although Ed's bio is absent from the official (ccnet) homepage leading me to believe it's true. And that damn intro to Hostile World was one of my favorites, too. :(

I'm hoping to get my site re-vamped soon. The address will be http://www.safelink.com/washburn/enchant but there's nothing there for now. I'll let ya'all know when it's up. It probably won't be for awhile. Give me a week or two.

Does anyone have any info on the following DT bootlegs:

ANCIENNE BELGIQUE - LIVE BRUSSELS, BELGIUM 26/2/98 + FALLING INTO INFINITY DEMOS (D)

    TOURING INTO INFINITY 1997 (D)

I probably won't buy them but if anyone wants them let me know and I'll give you the URL. Btw they're $44 each.

Last week I received my copy of Static Progress from Open All Night. First of all I was really surprised by the turn around time, which was only 13 days. That's pretty damn fast considering it was from France. The quality of the liners is great and the labels on the discs look better than painted discs IMO. The sound quality is as good as TDoE and the set list is great because it's so much different than my other FII shows. The medley of Metropolis/Learning to Live/Crimson Sunset is really cool, and so is the part where they play Freebird and Hot For Teacher. It also includes ToT and Speak to Me. I could have done without the bonus tracks because I already have them on Wake Up (which is better than Mind Control because nothing is cut out). Get this one while you can, you won't be disappointed.

Last but not least, is there anyone who has the CD Guitar Talkin' and a CD-R who would be willing to burn me a copy for either $10 or trade for audio or video tapes? Contact me privately for info on my trade list. Later,

FII seems to sound more like a live performance as the price of your stereo goes up.

The system I had used to master CDs was neither huge nor price-paralyzing, but it was particular in that it was made so you would hear EXACTLY what was on the disc, HD, DAT, or tape. For yea or nay, when the volume went up, at flat EQ, FII sounded better than all the other DT albums. In second place is Awake which had a good crunch but was at times a bit too murky on the low end. IAW sounds worst of the three because it's so tinny, hollow, and Myung is all but absent.

I think Shirley should continue working with DT until he produces an album that does not sound good on a reference system.

First off, LTE is one of the best mixed albums I've heard. Nothing is too soft or too loud where it shouldn't be. And second, when I first put FII into my CD player, it was 2am and I had just finished listening to APSoG. It was on one of those $75 Sony Discmans with the bass boost on max and headphones. Let me tell you it sounds EXCELLENT! Practically every song is built behind JM bass grooves with JP doing "atmosphere". If you really think about it, KJLB is the only one with the melody. MP's drums are crystal clear and DS keys contibute atmosphere. Very well done - recording and mixing. I hope to see Kevin Shirley's work again.

As for the Pink Floyd refrences, just listen to JP's phrasing and DS keys. You get that feeling like you were listening to Floyd, yet it's Dream Theater at the same time.

To correct everybody, the British invassion was actually in a couple of waves. The first was in 1964. The second, in the late 60s, and the third when prog rock came to town. I took a class in rock and roll and remember most of it, which is odd for me. The Beatles and Stones were the major frontrunners of the first brit invassion. Remember, 1964.
