Well, he couldve just posted the entire reviews on one mail message, I
really dont see the difference in Damon replying to every post he feels
inclined to, or joe posting a little short review for each band he saw on
powermad in about 15 different messages..when he couldve just made one big
"POWER MAD BAND REVIEWS" mail...

It is good to see people speaking highly of the band Ice Age. I have
their demo when they were called Monolith and absolutely loved it.
Imagine a keyboard driven Iron Madien and that is about right. Excellent
song writing, excellent lyrics, and excellent production. The band's
line-up has changed from the demo days, but hopefully the sound will
remain the same. Grab the CD whenever available.

Well he could have, but then there would be no way to differentiate between
threads of any one particular band (gawd forbid we should actually have a
music discussion here!), and it would have taken up nearly the same amount
of bandwidth anyway, so QUITCHERBITCHEN!
On second thought, lets have 15 more complains about it, that will make it
all even out right? And someone post some more encoded crap, please.

Dammit Carlos, I was hoping to jump all over that MIME flame! HAHAH /me high fivs carlos!
But I do agree that his individual posting of the bands was a good idea. As for powermad itself. It was worth it because I discovered that mastermind is a local band and does a lot of shows in my area and also for the abundance of CDs!!! Unfortunately I missed sunday, so Ill be on the lookout for ice age clips.. Thanks again for the posts Joe!

More positive feedback from the Purple fans.
Caution: ELP gets slammed here, so if your a big ELP fan, hit the page down key. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dream Theater opened with a 45 minute set. As with all the other US tour stops, they started the show 15 minutes early (6:15 PM). The more I hear this band, the more I like them. To these ears, they sound like a cross-between of Queensryche and Metallica (not a bad thing). Their set list: New Millenium, 6:00, Peruvian Skies (w/ snatches of Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" and Metallica's "Enter Sandman"), Pull Me Up, Hollow Years, and Metropolis Pt 1 (I thnk). Their sound was crystal clear, almost perfect. Once they were done, there was a 15 minute set change. Next up was ELP. I'd been looking forward to seeing ELP for a long time, but I must confess, after a very tight performance from Dream Theater, ELP was a disappointment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DT played the same set as the day before and with the same enthusiasm. They were very well received and during the break I overheard a few conversations inbetween seasoned rockers that went like 'What's this band name? I gotta check it out'.
I spend most of the ELP set in the bar as the day before in QC I draw a conclusion they'd do much better swapping with DT to open the set. Palmer's drum solo was good though absolutely the same as the night before. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- END
If anyone is bothered by these DP fan reviews of DT, let me know and I'll stop. I just thought it would be of interest to the jammers.

Gothic Knights -- they may be cheesy as hell, but they're friggin' fun to watch live. Don't diss 'em just because they still think it's 1983. They drive a van with a skull in the dashboard -- can't beat that.
Ice Age -- Ice Age, on the other hand, fit all of their equipment into a compact car. The thing was so weighted down it's a wonder it made it back to whereveritistheyrefrom. Great band, btw -- eagerly awaiting their CD.
Soundscape -- I friggin' missed 'em!! Of all the days for Powermad to start remotely on time...
Joe Stump -- Talk about a one trick pony. Malmsteen's alright in my book, since his songs are catchy enough (they should be -- Paganini and Bach wrote and tested them hundreds of years ago!), but Joe? Too much notes, too little song. The novelty of machine gunned notes wore off *real* quick.
Event -- Good material, but they really need to hire a keyboardist. I nominate Damon (as my current synthrigless state doesn't do much good for me as a performing musician.) <grin>
drunk guy -- What a nutter. My favorite part was when he started moshing by himself and turned around amazed once again to see that he was the only one participating in his pit. He did that a lot. But the best instance was when he did the mosh/turn-around move, raised his arms in disgust, and then lay down on the floor in fetal position pretending to sleep. That painfully realistic imagery really put us in our place as an audience, I think.
And now I rag on Mercury Rising.

Agreed. Only the two excellent guitarists rarely were in synch with the rhythm section. Seemed like everybody was trying to wank away with no togetherness. That there was my major problem with the band. A tight rhythm section is the key to any good performing group (mime troups included).

You'll have to excuse my drunkedness... but here's my take on Neil Peart's Click Track use.. Yes he does use them, quite regularly. In concert he uses the click track on a couple of songs (the exact ones, I forget) but I know he does. I saw them in Boston about 2 years ago (the best show I have ever attended. Hands down)
Neil supports the use of click tracks (metronome use) he even says so on "a work in progress" which I suggest the purchase to any drummer. The tape is unsurpassed. He basically states.. it can only make you better. I don't have one.. but I will buy one when I have the $$. Later, J
