I don't really like to sound very arrogant, but I think I must because you
pretty much called for it. Not that I find anything wrong with you calling
me or anybody else stupid, heck, sometimes I feel that way myself, but
that coming from a guy who so obviously doesn't know what he's talking
about...
Sorry, dude. Learn the first and the second thing about audio and data
CDs, how things work, how jitter works, how error correction works, come
to terms with the fact that owning a CD-R doesn't make you an expert etc,
and then come back with your accusations. Till then, let other people
do the talking.
Too much Dream Theater content my day makes.

Hmmm... Wouldn't such things as redundancy and error correction stamp
out most discrepancies between the original and the duplicated CD (using
the digital interfaces)? It's been a while since I read up on the actual
format of the information on audio CD's, but I'm positive that all info
is serially duplicated. I agree with you about D/A => A/D quantization
error and distortion and whatnot in the case of using the analog line,
but using a digital output to a digital input? Come on. Besides using
redundant data, I believe some kind of error checking/ error correction
code is used in the storing of the data... I don't see how a
interconnect of even questionable quality would cause discrepancies in
the copied data, unless it was a flat out open circuit. That's like
saying that the binary values that are being copied to the burner aren't
the right color.
Assuming both your burner and your player are smart enough to tell a one
from a zero, the quality of the source device never comes into play. And
as for the quality of the recording device... when you're using a
digital input, it should be as simple as "It records" or "It don't
record".
Everyone can feel free to argue, but unless you believe in 12th notes, I
won't respond.

Although the given information is rather inconclusive as to drawing a
rational result from the above, I will endeavor to satiate your interests
with some useless information... Mahogany mounted monkies make many
malportented moans picking precious pulpy pulverulence from pocked pungent
puckering pickles.
Therefore you can deduce it would take several hours. I will research this

It's been a while, so I thought I'd plug the ytsejam shirt again:
If you didn't know, I have been selling the latest generation of the Ytse-shirt for several months now. This is the ultimate addition to your
DT collection. There's no better way to let the world know that you are a truly dedicated fan - Mike Portnoy asked for 10 of them! The shirt is black (that's a union regulation) with three colors on the back and two on the front. It looks awesome, it's a great quality shirt, and everyone who has one loves this shirt. All info and scans of the shirt are on my page, at www.j51.com/~mrasiel/ytsepage.htm. Don't miss out!

I was just reading through some of the posts regarding this thread, and the discussion of Cynic and similar bands fascinated me. I think it was Younis who brought up Cynic....do you think you could name some other good bands in that jazz/metal genre that you would recommend trying out?

Excuse me buddy, but if you're concluding just according your ears, I don't think you should make such claims! I said that a friend is checking the signal of the CDplayer on osciloscope,
So I would accept reasonable, scientific explanation of the level of sounbd quality, not on someone's (subjective) ears! :)
I'll try making it more simple: CAN THE LASER BE DAMAGED FROM BAD QUALITY CDs???? Can any part of the CD be damaged by bad pirated CDs?

Panhandle turns maybe? I dunno - traffic circles sounds pretty good to me. Then again, I'm a bit south of New England, and panhandle turns are the ones that all the lovely people who drive through New Jersey bitch about on the littler highways. I am well acquainted. People from VA seem to have a serious problem with them though.
In other more music-related tangents, I'm looking forward to when stuff from the other BG albums goes up on the page. It's a good thing I now own two albums, otherwise I'd be champing at the bit and foaming at the mouth and ... well, you know, visiting the site all the time. Wait, that already happens..
I cannot WAIT to mooch the 5YiaL from my friend's brother *drool*

They're not panhandle turns or whatnot. They rotaries! That's the only thing I've ever heard them called (and I've lived in Vermont all my life, well, until college, at least. Now I live in New Hampshire). So I hope that's the answer to your question! :)

This is gonna sound really weird but....surrounded. I was just thinking about doing a drum line arrangement of that the other night. course I'm not thinkin full corps, I'm thinkin drumline. The reason I say surrounded is a lot of the other songs are too complicated. course you could probly find some good stuff off AWake and FII to arrange as well...
