Hey dudes! I went to a local CD shop this sat. to see Bruce Kulick,
Eric Singer, John Corabi and Karl Cochran. They signed autographs
and all. I bought their cover band's CD ('Lost and Spaced'), they
duly signed it, had my picture taken with the guys, and everyone is
very friendly, specially Bruce, who I found to be very considerate
and caring for his fans. So now I'm at work, listening to this CD
with real attention for the first time and the guys play a song from
Deep Purple, and who do I see listed in the credits as playing keys?
No other than Nicky Lemmons!!! This is very nice indeed, but
shoudn't surprise me that much, since Bruce and Nicky had met when
they were in KISS! Ace Frehley plays on a Jimmy Hendrix cover too.
And the booklet is filled with studio fotos, but none of them show
any of the guests. :(
So, was this already discussed here?
On other news, Ozzy Osbourne is going to sing one song on Rick
Wakeman's 'Return to the Centre of the Earth'!! Yesssssir! Oh, but
don't get too excited about it! Bonnie Tyler and Trevor Rabin are
also in the project, which is shaping to be a disaster, very similar
to Roger Water's The Wall (in Berlin).
Alright, does anybody know the producer for Lemur Voice's 'Insights'
and Stratovarius' 'Visions of Europe'? I looked and looked in the
liners and the CD's, and found no information. Just the engineer and
the mixer.
So, where can I find DT's 'Mind Control' boot?

I think it's a roman or greek style amphitheatre to have as a 'link'
to the classicism part of DT. Remember that in 'Images and Words'
the band was set in a classical temple environment, and in Awake,
there's a classical statue, the frames of the mirror are classic
styled etc. That's my opinion.

The Stratovarius would be Timo Tolkki, the bands guitarist, he's produced all the Strato CD's that I own.

Dream Theater, Metropolis Pt.2: The liar and the jokester

Stratovarius; Destiny-
Yeah yeah, "Eckieeeeeee, I've already heeeeeeeeeeard Stratovarius!" Well, get this album foo's 'cuz it's Episode Pt. 2. And we all know how much ass THAT album kicked. Cheesy ballads and all :) Hell i could swear one of the tracks was a continuation of that little wedding song near the end of Episode... Okay, so I can't go into an in-depth analysis of how Destiny ranks among the patented Eckie Euro-Metal Ass Kicking Spectrometer (beep beep beep BEEPBEEPBEEP..."Egon, what does that mean?" "The metalheads are right behind...THIS DOOR!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAYAAAAAAAAA!!!" "Peter! Are you okay?!" "Pfft. Yeah. I've been...progged!") but I have a damn good reason.
I recieved Destiny in the mail at the same time as another, "newer," "fresher" band's CD...
NIGHTWISH: OCEANBORN Okay, I did visit the site a while ago and downloaded a couple mp3 clips and heard Cookie Monster masturbating over some kick ass metal. Cookie monster does not belong in my music. Cookie Monster eat cookie. Not CD Player. Bad cookie monster.
But our good friend Graham flew from Australia, strapped me into a chair he made out of alligator skins and kangaroo feet and forced me to listen to some more Nightwish that I hadn't heard off the site, and lemme tell you, I was fucking HEADBANGING! RAH! METAL! ME LIKES! Then he flew back.
I've been listening to this CD non stop, i've practically forgotten about Stratocasterus...er...Stratospher...that other band. THIS cd alone has some of the best mixing and production I've ever laid ears on...the guitars crunch with the fury of HELL and the vocals soar through my skull like an angel's scream and yes, there's even a keyboard player. ;) Oh yeah, the songs themselves are heheh, ass KICKING too say the least.
What made me attracted to this band (besides Tarja's picture on their homepage....meeeeOW!) is Tarja's VOICE and her role as the lead singer in a performance unlike ANYTHING I think I've ever heard before. The only thing that comes close to it is Angra but this stuff is MUCH more rockin'! Take the catchiness of Stratovarius, the syncopation of uhm....a prog band, the heaviness of uhmmm...the Obscure demos (which doesn't help 'cuz they're not OUT yet)...ie, take everything that makes you headbang or nod, "yeeeah, i liiiiike this," in a metal band and that's the instrumental/rythm section. Guitars rock. Drummer rocks. Keyboard rocks. It's ALL good. Then Tarja comes into play.
With her oprahtic voice soaring on top of everything, it turns Nightwish into this haunting dark, heavy experience you'd expect to find if you were in the middle of an enchanted forest being hunted by Snow Wolves and Frost Giants and you saw a ghost of this really really hot chick with a great rack and she kicked the wolves and giants' asses (unlike ahem...the Cardinals) and she offered to play you a song that would protect you and help you fight the giants and she does it and you roll DOUBLE DAMAGE WITH YOUR LIGHT SABER AND YOU WIN THE BATTLE AND SHE SAYS "TAKE ME NOW! WHILE THE GUITAR SOLO IS SPEEDING UP!!!"
Ahem.... Well. That's what *I* got from it.
Downsides? Heheheh, you'd have to be a big time music snob to find any downsides to this album. Luckily, I'm just the bastard that will point them out! :)
First off, they're definitely European, they have that distinct phrasing and scalar running pattern selection that you've heard before in Stratovarius. You'll hear different influences from everything from pop metal to Goo Goo Spit and Shit Baby doll (listen to track 3 with headphones and you'll understand). One of the songs sounded like Annie Lennox with...uhm...balls (just a small section of it) or something. It's more humorous than anything else.
Then there's the Cookie Monster. Oh, he's not doing lead vocals, just a couple of cameo appearances. I can't take any band with Cookie Monster seriously. I get thirsty for Milk to be quite honest. It's just funny. But they balanced it out so it's not completely uhm...American Thrash Metal Cookie Monster, more like German Cookie Monster with a really bad hang over. But I can actually listen to it and say, "Yeah, I get it. It fits."
See, heh, I REALLY can't complain. I love this album so far. The longevity of it still needs to be tested...but at the rate I'm listening to it (say ohhhh, 5 times a day) we should have a good indication really soon }:^)
Eeep. Okay, well, judging by how much I've written about this album, it's safe to say, "ECKIE LIKES IT!" Remember, it's OCEANBORN, not the previous cd they released with Cookie Monster on lead vocals. It's sure to become an prog-metal cult hit and I hope I've turned somebody onto this great great CD with this review.

I did pretty good at the record show today. I picked up Steve Vai-Flexible Leftovers, Theater of Tragedy-Aegis, and Joe Stump-Rapid Fire Rondo for only $6 each. Also got Powerman 5000 for a buck which was worth it. Flex Left has some weird shit on it. ToT is not bad. I like the Stump a lot better than his Guitar Dominance. Oh the DTC: I got a YNM promo.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming which I beleive was a no-holds-barred cage match between Steve "Uborosss" B., and Chris "Go home and practice" Ptacek. :)

this is one aimed at the Tiamat fans who are looking for something rare as a stocking filler for Christmas.
A couple of years ago, Century Media (Tiamat's label) put out a double CD called "A Musical History Of Tiamat", with the second disc being a live recording from the Wild Honey tour in Stockholm in 1994. For reasons known only to themselves, Century Media limited this album to just 500 (!) copies. I recently found out that Relapse Records (http://www.relapse.com) have some copies of this real collectors item. I order two (one for me and one for my girl friend), and I'm very glad I did. This live disc shows just how hard some of the softer stuff from Wild Honey sounds live - an excellent live album, and just the thing for all of you who have not yet been so fortunate as to see these guys play. A real bargin at just $ 20.
Just thought I'd share that one with you all.
