Did anyone record TSO on the Rosie show last year? I would love to get a
copy. I have a tape of the recent Conan appearence or plenty of other
stuff to trade. See the url below my list.

    DTC:

Does anyone have an extra Dream Theater "Dreambill" from the Limelight gig
in '93? Or have one they want to sell? I would pay what most people would
say is an insane amount for it.

    Later,

Alright, so I'm wasting time not studying for finals, but whatever...

Yesterday, after (once again!) missing the bus back to my dorm, I was
loitering in a Books-a-Million store here in lovely ole south Virginia,
hangin' near the magazine section, and get sucked in by Metal Maniac(s?).
Okay, they had the traditional metal cheese factor going on (aka not very
polished, lots of black and white pages, obviously a not very funded
magazine, shall we say, but cool due to subject matter, also obviously),
but the CONTENT. They covered Powermad, which was pretty cool - despite
all the fiascos I've gotten to hear about it would've been cool to have
been there - and also they had a section on great bassists that have had a
big impact on the industry. But the BEST part was on the table of contents
page, there's this picture of MYUNG at the top, with the caption, "Woops!
    Missed one! Myung kills!"

Alright so they didn't mention him in the actual article, but they did use
him to plug it, which counts for something. Just wanted to share my DT
    experience of the week. :)

Highly technical... but different on every album... Steps and
Sophisticated and A Sense of Change are all totally technical and they
    even attempt to rival Watchtower.

Forgive me if I am reading this wrong, but if the poster is stating that Geoff's vocals on the HitNF tour were pitiful, then they saw a different show than I did.

Geoff's vocals were amazing, he hit every note, even on strainers like "The Lady Wore Black".

I have never had the pleasure of seeing DT live, and the only live vocal i have heard is the TTT MP3 from the NAMM show, and what I heard sounded pretty good to me.

    Just my .02 cents worth..

Yes there will be. I believe it's going to contain some live tracks.

Also, I wasn't sure if anybody really cared either. What is "tantalizing info" to me usually means nothing to the rest of the world (well, maybe not usually . . . but quite often).

Call me crazy (I'm sure you do anyway), but I saw Queensryche on that tour (in Philadelphia), and I thought Mr. Tate kicked major arse, especially considering he has (had?) a bad smoking habit and is not exactly a youth anymore. Unless you're referring to the part of the tour when he suffered from an illness--then, I think you have to cut him even more slack. I would agree with anyone though (imagine that) that LaBrie is a phenomenal singer who performs admirably well, consistently, on the road.

Hear, hear. James was great on the FII tour, and I can't believe that so many people who call DT "OFB" keep thinking who would be a better lead singer than James. It's like Yes, who better than Jon Anderson? OIAL is an honest recording, I'd rather have it that way. James rates very highly in my book. His live talents have come a long way, and his studio work has always much impressed me.

Yes! I listen to Sieges Even all the time! Not to "steps" by the way. The vocalist on "steps is awful!! The album you mean is "a sense of change".On of my all time favorite albums. I don't care much for their first two album's but "a sense of change" "Sophisticated" and their latest "uneven" are very good. The singer on "a sense of change" is Jogi Kaiser and indeed very good. But the singer they have now is also fine.

I can not recommend them enough check them out NOW! Especially "a sense of change".

Tell me about it... I have two Altec 515 B's (15") rear loaded in bass horn cabinets the size of a chest freezer, and two 12" JBL drivers loaded in 3.6 cubic foot sealed cabinets for main bass drivers. Not only do I deal with nail pops... But I had to fill the door to my family room with expanding foam because it was starting to de-laminate. All the pictures in the room have the glass siliconed in place to keep them from buzzing and silicone pads on the back to keep them quiet and in place. The heat registers and overhead lights have undergone some minor modifications to keep them quiet as well. This system with NO EQ, and no tone controls (I.E. flat) has a -3 Db down point of 22 Hz! (No, this does NOT sound like one of the brutha's Boom-ditty-Boom car stereos) The system is FLAT from 31 Hz to 22 kHz. The -10 Db point (what most home speaker manufacturers use as a reference for specs) is somewhere around 18 Hz to...... Just below visible light. :)

With sixteen 4" JBL midrange drivers (8 each channel) in a phased array, and two JBL / Zomax engineering 2" inverted titanium dome compression horns (1 each channel) @ 112 Db SPL 1 watt - 1 meter, the mids & hi's have no problem keeping up.

I don't normally play the system that loud, but it's nice to keep the "room" quiet on those rare occasions I let the amplifiers stretch their legs a little.

Fortunately my family room is 24' x 14', completely underground in the lower level of the house, and the only thing under the carpet is padding... And a solid concrete foundation. I only have one neighbor and they are located on the opposite side of the house from the family room. <grin>

If I play APSoG at about one kilowatt it will blur your vision... I shit you not! Oh, and King's X "Dogman" has enough bottom end to shatter bricks.

In a message dated 98-12-15 20:39:17 EST, you write:

<< What's especially shameful is that this is also one of my favorite albums of this year (and it can't be that good if I like it, ha ha ha). While it's definitely not Prog with a capital P, "Let it Flow" (track six, I believe) is damn close. The whole album is well-crafted and skillfuly played to say the least. The drumming is as tight as . . . well, I'd better not finish that sentence. The guitar-playing (by former Ki$$ guitarist Bruce Kulick) rips as well. >> >> Actually, the UNION album was one of the most anticipated releases of the year for me, having been turned on to John Corabi through his Motley Crue connection. But, in all honesty, it is a real let down for me. The hooks don't grab me (except "Pain Behind Your Eyes," "Love (Don't Need It Anymore)," "Tangerine," and "October Morning Wind") John's voice could have used more effects. Yes, Bruce sounds excellent. The drumming is very good. But the whole album is too dark for my taste. It sounds like the logical combination of Motley's self-titled album and KI$$'s "Carnival Of Souls," which is perfectly understandable. Too bad it doesn't have the songwriting of the former and the distribution of the latter. In any event, it's not a bad first album, it's nowhere near the top of my list for the year. I'm not sure if I'll buy the forthcoming live album (how can you release a live album after one album and a handful of shows- are you listening Judas Priest!?!).

    Richie

P.S. And I can vouch for the fact that Bruce is a great guy. I met him at a Warrant concert two New Year's Eves ago and was very down to earth.
