Does anyone like or listen to Sieges Even? I have heard very favorable
reviews, especially of their album "Steps" (supposedly it sounds like a
very
technical Rush with a better vocalist - no offense to the Rush fans - I
love
Geddy's vox myself)...
I've got this record, but I wouldn't say that Rush was the first thing
that came up on my mind...
They sound like...German...and together with their album-cover, It gives
me some strange vibes...

I have all of SE's CDs. Except for the one on "A Sense of Change," the
vocalists in SE are pretty bad. The one on Steps, in particular, is so
terrible that his efforts have made me laugh. That's kinda cold, I know,
but it's true.
As for them being technical, that part is very true. SE is
super-technical at everything they've done, but their "Rush" era consists
of the CDs Sense of Change and Steps. If you're big on Rush, I recommend
you start with those. My own favorite happens to be Sense of Change,
mainly because I really like the melodies on that CD. Steps is a really,
uh, "moody" CD (goes through lots of mood swings), but it does have a
kick-ass 25-minute song:).
I got mp3s of their stuff. If you want some, let me know.
Also, I forgot to mention that ALL their CDs are awesome.

what needs to be realized also is that comparing OIALT with 5YIALT is in
itself wrong... OIALT is a ONE-NIGHT recording, 5yialt is spread out
all over the place... nearly 3 hours of one night's music on 2 discs is
gonna have some mistakes, and not just Labrie's... if yer looking for
perfection at live shows, yer missing the whole point in the first
place, ya already own the damn albums, live is for the MOMENT, the
experience, the band... would you rather see a bunch of trees up there
playing perfectly all night long, with no entertainment value
whatsoever? I think not... and if that IS true, then put the albums
back in, and quit gripin man, cuz it doesn't get any better than
this... OIALT is awesome in my opinion, in ALL facets...

Hi everyone
Well I nearly got sick what came up on this list: George Michael. Well
what'll be next...? And some say Metallica is a grayzone, well....
The reason I am writing is this:
Perpetual Motion Awards 1998:
Prog Metal Disc:
1.Shadow Gallery- "Tyranny"
Prog Rock/Neo-Prog Disc:
1. Ayreon- "Into the Electric Castle"
Extreme disc (stuff that just don't fit anywhere else):
1.Therion- "Vovin"
Well what can I say my 3 faves of 1998 becoming No. 1 in each their
catagory - cool!
So if any of you dudes don't have all 3 - get them....

Hi all
first off, thanks to all of you who have submitted your top 5 lists.
Keep
them coming - please remember, the albums you vote for must have
been released in 1998, and send the lists to me, not to the Ytsejam.
Sieges Even - I have "Sophisticated" and "Uneven". Very complex
and very jazzy. Don't expect pure prog or prog metal and you might
like them, although they take some time to get into.
The more impatient members are already asking why the second
album by Liquid Tension Experiment is taking so long(!). Well, this
picture might be the answer - does it show Mike PornToy recovering
from a heavy drinking session with his German friend Jay Germeister?
http://www.iamdrunk.com/ddecrun2_2.jpg Certainly looks like him.
Arash recently posted the results of some survey - since when has
"Explorers Club" been an instrumental album? Would have been better
if it was.
And then there was the dyslexic devil worshipper who sold his soul
to Santa...
stay safe and happy listening (regardless of which gauge you use)

This is definitely true!! Well, I can't vouge for the boy part, but his
wife is definitely pregnant. I saw her and Melody (his beautiful
daughter) walking around at the clinic in LI on the 1st. She is really
a cutie. I think putting a tattoo of her footprint on his shoulder was
such cool idea. As a matter of fact, it gave me and my wife a really
cool idea. We want to put a tattoo of our daughters right palmprint on
my left shoulder and her left palmprint on my wife's right shoulder.
Congratulations Mike!!!

Hey all -

Actually, some time ago, Open All Night Records posted a set list of a
Savatage gig played in France recently. (At the time, I e-mailed them
about
the show, and they said that they'd be issuing it in December). Anyway,
the
show had a KILLER set list (I wish that I had copied it down), and if I
remember correctly, the band performed X-Mas Eve/Sarajevo at that show.
I am
really looking forward to hearing this, and I hope that the December
boot-
release date they gave me is accurate.
Also, I don't think that this has been posted yet, but this appeared in
the
most recent issue of Metal Edge during the 1998 Year in Review section:
[Mike is] looking forward to "doing a Liquid Tension Experiment tour in
January, the next DT album (we have some cool stuff up our sleeves), and
most
importantly, the birth of my second child - and my first boy! - in
March."
Holy Crap!! Mike, if this is true, big fat hearty Congrats!!
That's it for now. C-Ya!!
- Matt T.

Hmmm... Spock's Beard should be in the top-3, but I agree completely with
Ayreon.

Aha!
And what struck me, was that a lot of voters REALLY seemed to like
Symphony X and Stratovarius. Look how much top-3 spots they have in the
'positive' categories... (two very good bands though, mind you)

OK now, so this is like HUGE success right? So what now, will it be
noticed by anyone or ...?
Will someone smeel money out of it? Will prog get more airplay and
exposure?
#35 on Billboard, that's pretty good too, isn't it? But what then?
Will this world get healty again?
No matter how bad it sounds, I realised the same "sickness" in my
country:
Folks just don't listen good music anymore! The problem is not the media
airplay, since the media plays what they thing folks want! And folks
want the cute Hansons and Backstreet Boys! Geez, how can bunch of bands
that sound like the crappy Oasis have so big airplay? What is that
music, like they're all made in same factory!
I heard Americans complaining about MTV and radio broadcasts, but is
that REALLY the problem??? How we're different from others, how did YOU
discovered DT, Rush ...
Who am I to claim that I'm the only intelligent smart-ass who listens
and likes "good" music? Maybe I'm the fool and the world is OK!

Dude, the easiest way of trying to make somebody look good is trying to bash on his competition, and that's exactly what you're trying to do. It's a very cheap shot if I may say so. I saw Geoff on that "pittiful tour" which was still much bigger than what Dream Theater has done, and they went more places too. And guess what, Geoff always delivers from what I'm told. When somebody complains about Geoff Tate, the only complain I hear is "well, he can't hit those high notes anymore". Which in some nights he can - when they played Tampa his voice was awesome and he hit every note on the old stuff, including stuff from Rage for Order which really had me impressed. You will never hear somebody complaining that Geoff is off pitch, or that his voice is just gone after the third song, or that he uses "vocal techniques" that sound lame (like the breathing vowel thing or whatever it's called), much less that people have no idea of what he's singing when he's hitting high notes. So instead of dissing Geoff Tate to try and make LaBrie look good, just do your homework next time, or else shut up.
Christian.
