Just so you worry-warts can relax a little, you might like to know I got
my "three for $1" order from 800.com. So yeah, it's not a scam. And I
ended up with 7 discs total. Yay.

Thanks a lot to Jon Kretchmer for posting about it in the first place. :)

    A couple of things.

First, big-time thanks to Mike, John, John, James, and Derek, and to Neil
and the other FC folks, for the Christmas CD. This year's is the best one
    yet.

Now that the holiday season is upon us, and with it Holiday Shows, here's
D-Man's Advice on How To Enjoy The Show and Meet Other Jammers.
    1) Wear Ytse. Let everyone else wear their tour shirts, or their Rush
shirts, or whatever. Ytse sets you apart from... "them."
    2) Don't mosh. Especially not at a semi-acoustic show.
    3) Before the show, if you see two weird-looking, Ytse-wearing, loud,
annoying types, screaming such things as "Skadz!", "D-Man!", or "BAFU!",
come up and say hi. We'll be acting like that in an effort to find *you*.
    4) During the show, if you get a really good spot right in front of the
stage, leave, and expect a whole club worth of general admission ticket
holders to move so you can reclaim your spot, you're in for a bitter
disappointment. Pee beforehand, or don't drink so much. But, either way,
it ceases to be your spot when you leave it, no matter how big and drunk you
    are.
    5) After the show, make your way to the front of the stage. That's where
we'll be hanging out, and trying to decide which bar is the closest one to
    the club that sells Guinness.
    6) If Mike throws a drumstick out into the crowd, duck. Lots of people will
engage in rather ruthless competition to retrieve it. Unless it happens to
bonk you on the head, you're better off not trying. Besides, who needs a
sweaty, broken drumstick, when you have a Christmas CD?
    7) Drinks are on me for anyone that can make John Myung laugh during the
show. :) (Yes, Mr. Portnoy, you're eligible.)

That's about all I can think of. Enjoy the shows!

I doubt I'll get any takers, but...

Is there anyone so unhappy with 'Once in a Livetime' that they're willing
to trade it for a copy of Rush's 'Different Stages'? I have an extra copy
    of the latter.

Also, is it just me, or is 'Different Stages' like the greatest live album
ever? And I cannot believe how good the recording quality is of the '78
stuff. The more current material sounds AWESOME. I normally can pass on
live albums (not that I do - I buy them all), but this has GOT to be the
    definitive RUSH recording.

When I was a beginner, the Mel Bay books were very helpful, although when I bought
"The Guitar Handbook" by Ralph Denyer, I never looked at them again. I've heard "The
Complete Guitarist" (I think it's called) is also good. With this in mind, books will
do you no good unless you PRACTICE. I know it's a cliche, but there are no shortcuts.
Practice as often as you can, keeping in mind that you can never run out of things to
work on. The other things to do are: listen to lots of music of all kinds, work on
transcribing (ie figuring stuff out), practice some more, and have fun :-)

    Hey everyone -

Well, I ran out to my mailbox this afternoon, and still no X-Mas CD....
    Grrrrrrrr!

Now I have to wait at least a couple of days. Can somebody who has it already
do me a big favor and post the entire track listing to the Jam? I tried to
wait and be surprised, but yet again, I have given into the curiosity. :-)
Of course, please be kind enough to carefully mark the post with enough
*SPOILERS* to warn anyone who still wants to be surprised. Thanks a lot!!

    Safe and Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Yeah, and they sent me an email earlier this week that said something similar, if not congruent to, "Sorry, we will not be able to have your DVD's to you before the holiday season, but we will be working our asses to the bone to get them to you ASAP."

Hell. The DVD's are for me anyway, so I don't mind. Hell, can't beat paying only $1 for $75 of merchandise. I oughtta take this over to one of the local $1 stores and see if they'll match it. I doubt it. heheh.

First off, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season, and a great '99. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (sp?), Happy Kwanza, or whatever u celebrate! Hopefully no one else here has been lucky enough to be blessed with a fever of 102 the day before Christmas. :(

Second, I want to thank Mike and the guys for a really cool Christmas present! Great job! And yes, I will need to have my head checked soon. ;)

I will be at Irving Plaza on the 29th. If anyone is interested in making some pre-show plans, there is a good chance I will be going into the city around 2pm. (Anyone know around what time soundcheck might be starting, if the show starts at 8? Forgive me, I'm clueless. ;P) Email me in private if interested.

    Have good ones! :)

    Merry Christmas!

I thought I'd share my proggy Christmas Eve background-music play list. After the "OLDER" folks bailed... I switched gears on my guests, Here's what they heard: Flim & the BB's - "New Pants" * Spocks Beard - "KoS" * Fates Warning - "Perfect Symmetry" * Symphony X "Divine Wings" * Superior - "Behind" * Dream Theater - "Images & Words" Whew!

I thought I would have to ditch the prog music in short order, but much to my surprise it went over VERY well. I only played a few tracks on the Spocks Beard and Symphony X CD's, the rest were played in their entirety.

Fates Warning, Superior and Dream Theater, by far received the most inquires and positive comments. The age's of my guests were 20 -39. I should mention that six of my guests were already DT fans. (I turned them on to DT several years ago) Fates and Superior may have gained a few fans. :) On several occasions people were having me back up and repeat sections of the CD in total disbelief as Ray Alder defied the laws of nature. (hitting notes that cause navigational errors in poor unsuspecting bats.) We had a great time, and everybody enjoyed the music. The music topic dominated the conversations for the rest of evening. My brainwashing tactics are almost sinister, don't you think?

P.S. I know Flim and the BB's isn't prog, I thought it would be a good transitional selection. I figured the jump from Bing Crosby to Symphony X would be a tad-bit extreme. :)

Why do all those Santa's ringing the bells at K-Mart look like scumbags?
