For anyone wondering if Mr. Dagoth's "for the japanese audience" remark was
racially-motivated, I offer the following information: in Japan there are
vending machines at which one may purchase a used pair of women's underwear.

I saw the video to Hollow Years on VH-1 in Germany in my hotel room at 2 am
last Wednesday. As I don't get cable in the UK, can one of the German
'jammers say if it's on decent rotation? I only ask because I myself
originally found out about DT through seeing 'Another Day' on MTV's
Headbangers' Ball in 1995, and it'd be good to think people can still find
out about DT that way. That's why I'm interested in 'My DT defloration'
stories (pace Ptacek) - it's interesting to see what would be the best way
to spread the word among people like us.

On You Not Me...well, I enjoy Desmond Child's Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper
stuff - it's not monumentally clever but it's fun to yell your head off to
it in the car. There's nothing wrong with DT using up a few of FII's 78-odd
minutes on a commercial track. If that's what it takes to keep the label
sweet, so be it. I just think that if Desmond Child was brought in, the
least we should have expected was a top 20 single. Maybe he didn't work
    hard enough...

    Forgive me if this was already posted;

I just got my Columbia House mailing today and FII is the hard rock
selection of the month! There was a pretty cool blurb about the band and a
nice photo like the one on Hollow Years...

I wonder just how many people will forget to send the card in on time and
    become DT fans! :)

    Hey yall...

Did anyone catch Judas Priest on 12 Angry Viewers, or whatever that show is called on MTV? Normally I flip past that channel, because VH1 often plays people like Sting and McLachlan and some other great performers that I listen to, but I accidentally stopped on MTV (one channel below) and saw METAL. I was taken aback... it wasn't the shitty "heavy alternative" kind of metal that MTV spawned... it was 80's thrashing metal. I was shocked. Listening a little closer, I recognized a style of writing, but I couldn't place the voice or the face of the singer. Suddenly, I heard this high pitched "Direct from the unholy (and now officially homosexual) book of Halford" scream "YOU'RE GOING.... TO BURN IN HELL!" and I said "Fuck you! It's Judas Priest!" Not only has the music not been degraded, but the solo was pretty ripping... the guy has built up some unruly speed. I know that's not all that counts... I'm a guitarist after all, but still, this was on MTV! I wanted desperately to like the song. I love the singer's voice... I love the instruments... but you know, Judas Priest never really mastered the art of fine lyric construction. They were totally dissed by a group of high school drop outs and a couple high schoolers who seemed to be high on whatever they could get. And that moronic chick that hosts... I watched the rest of the program, because I wanted to see if she was really as ignorant as she sounded... and yes... she is. She dissed Priest, and then defended some stuttering rapper, because the 12 angry trend followers didn't like the fact that the moron had a serious speech impediment. I guess it's cool to have an opinion, as long as it's the right opinion. Let's pray that MTV can always keep watch for us, and make sure we know when we're becoming unreasonable, or uncool.

Can't speak for the other AOLers, but my Jams are coming in fine. I didn't get the one Jam you didn't receive either, though. It was a couple of Jams ago. Like Bafu, I too miss Pine. Looks like one of our favorite bassists, Mr. Gary Lee himself, has gotten a signature bass. Check it out at: http://www.harmony-central.com/Newp/WNAMM98/Fender/Geddy-Lee.html I'm gonna have to start saving now. Finally, Portnoy's drums were on MuchMusic. They were showing an interview of Big Wreck, and they showed them arriving at the DT soundcheck. It was the Boston gig, and Portnoy's purplish-whitish drums were smack dab on the screen.

I think the reason he doesn't speak much (if at all) in public is because, if he opens his mouth, he wouldn't be able to keep quiet. Look at how long his answers are in the interview. They're *all* hugehuhugehuge! ^_^ Maybe that's why all the songs he write are 11 minutes or longer... he has so much to say, but feels like, if he speaks, he would overwhelm his audience, thus only 2 songs so far...

^_^ Just a thoery. His answers were very enlightening, in both his personality and the band in general. You definately should read both articles.

The only absolute fact I can give you about Mr. Big is that the band is offically on hiatus for now so that everybody can "do their own thing" although they do not rule out the possibility of doing another Mr. Big album together. Paul Gilbert is doing the aforemention solo album. Pat played drums on an album by Victory, who are an up-and-coming hard rock band, and I assume will continue to do session work. Eric Martin is going to do another solo album (he was a solo aritist before Mr.Big). All of you "Mad About You" Mr. Big fans should check out the show's soundtrack (in stores now) for Eric's song "I Love The Way You Love Me." Not a bad ballad, but I hope this won't be the direction his post- Mr. Big solo career. And as far as the Billy Sheehan thing goes, I have no idea. I heard from several people that Billy was going to rejoin DLR and I have only just heard things to the contrary, none of which were ever at the offical level. Actually, I take it back. The second absolute fact about Mr. Big is that they were/are a damn good band.

I think I can help you with IQ. They're a british band at least as old as Marillion. This is one of those Genesis-clone bands. If you're into Marillion, then you'll like IQ. Their latest album, Subterranea, is awesome. What I dislike a bit about this double CD is that the keyboards don't sound as much as they did in the past. The guitars are taking over. It seems to me that guitar player Mike Holmes is doing most of the writing and produces, but Martin Orford (keys) still steps out from time to time to show a bit of his skills. The production is very good. You get to hear the bass and the drums solidly, and Mike Nichols' voice was never this good. IQ had an album in 1989 called 'Are You Sitting Comfortably?' which was produced by Terry Brown, but this was a more or less commercial release, so I wouldn't recommend to start with. It would be like buying Genesis' latest stuff (which name I can't remember) as a start. I would suggest you to start with 'J'ai Pollette D'Arnu', which is a tribute to IQ's first bass player who died a few years ago. In that album you'll find one of the best songs ever written, IMO: 'IQ'. This album sounds a lot like Genesis's Foxtrot, with great melodies, acoustic guitars (you would swear that Steve Hackett was playing there!), rhythm changes and a 20 min. medley of their songs recorded live and some demos. You can also check them out at their site: http://www.geo.co.uk/iq/index.htm If you want to indulge into their music, then buy 'The Wake' (1985), 'Tales From the Lush Attic' (1983) or 'Ever' (1993). To those Marillion fans out there, if you haven't checked this band yet, you're missing out on real kick-ass music!

    To contribute to the 5 CD's thing: 1. Judas Priest-Turbo 2. King Kobra-Thrill of a Lifetime 3. Queen-Hot Space 4. Yes-Big Generator 5. Genesis-Invisible Touch ;P he, he, he...

Now for some DTC: I don't know if this has been said before, but following DT's coincidences in their writing (Another Hand..., Another Day, etc...) that appears in the FAQ file, I noticed something funny in two of their songs: "Close your eyes... You can find all you need in your mind" ]From I&W; and "Just close your mind... You can find all you need with your eyes" ]From FII I know the songs are written within different contexts and all, but I just though it was worth mentioning. I'm sure this must have been written here, but I'm somewhat new to the jam, so there...

EMPTY TREMOR are incredible. I said this before and no one believed me. Every Dream Theater fan should just try this great talented young band. Actually, I think that the music on "APOCOLOKYNTOSYS" is so complex, you must hear it more than just a few times to like it.

It's really unbelivible how some kids can do such great prog music ala DT !!! Look at their ages when the recorded Apocolokyntosys:

Drums : Steffano Ruzzi (15) <---- for me, the young version of Mike P Guitars : Christain Tombetti (16) Bass: Dennis Randi (16) Guitars : Marco Guerrini (14) Vocals : Giovanni De Luigi (16) Keybaords : Daniele Liverani (22) HEY, he wasn't a teenager at the time !!!

Unfortunatly, my unversity server is down again, so for now there is no accsess to the samples on my page. I will inform you, when the page is online again so you can download the samples. For now, you can reache Prog Or Die at the Geocieties address.

    Note:
