I almost saw this in the Enquirer when I was sleepwalking after dropping
    some bad acid. Yeesh.

Washington D.C. (AP) -- Shocking new evidence has been presented in the
Presidential sexual harassment case which involves the president showing an
accidental case of admiration for another man.

Apparently while campaigning his anti-gang/violence program in New York City
last week, un undisclosed source proclaimed that the President calmly walked
up behind one long haired individual and nonchalantly pinched their
buttocks. The President was surprised to see that his victim sported a
goatee and had several tatoos on his bulging arms. Mike Portnoy (drummer
for the Heavy Metal band Dream Theatre) was shocked to turn around and see
his nation's leader lying upon the pavement after he'd place a solid right
hook across the President's jaw. Portnoy's wife Marlene chuckled aout the
incident saying, "He picked the right butt to pinch!" while Portnoy admits
that the long hair has often caused such mistakes to happen before. Fellow
bandmate Derek Sherinian (keyboards), who witnessed the event stated,
"Monica Lewinsky eat your heart out. You think you're all that, but Mr.
President likes 'em big an' beefy." The President was unable to be reached
    for comment.

[Tanja] I'll definitely second that thought. Waterfront Weirdos
is a *very* good prog rock band (and friends of mine...uh huh) who have
just released a self-financed CD ep. For more info (reviews of their

Sure. A wee bit DT-ish Italian prog band. Their album "Welcome to the
Moonlight Circus" is nothing to get too excited about. I stick with my
Nocturnal Rites (which FYI _IS_ power metal) for now, thank you.

Just wanted to let people know if they want a pretty good FII boot, I just
got the Hartford show 1/2/98. The sound is pretty solid. In comparison
to the fix for 96 boot I made for everyone last year, the sound is a
little better. The set on this show rocks, as those that were there can
attest. "The Silent Man", "You Not Me", "Lie" are all on there. And as a
bonus (though I haven't listened to it yet, so ask me about the sound) I
have "Ytsejam", "New Millennium", "Metropolis" and... Nightmare Cinemna on
tape from the Irving Plaza Show.

Thus if you want to trade, email me. I have no clue as to the demand on
this one, but I must warn you I am only doing about 7-8 trades because I
have no money and little tapes. College sucks for tape trading. So, I
will only two blank tapes trade at 4 to 2 and the rest will be show for
show. Let me know if anyone is interested. Take the time.

Should be Tits on a Ritz !! Too bad they may not make it to the Dream
Concert. And, I think that it is a little confining to throw these guys
into the "Powermetal" category. From your sig, it says that you can
listen to two CDs at once which is waaaaay progressive, but you should
try these guys if you haven't. I think a lot of "Visions" and
    "Episode".

    >> HAS ANYBODY HEARD THE BAND "BLACK JESTER" ?

You betcha. I have two CDs from them. Warning. I am not really a
musician so all I can say is basically thumbs-up and thumbs-down.
Progressive rock-and-metal from Italy. Welcome to the Moonlight Circus
(I think this was their first ??) had some decent sounds to it. Maybe
it's just the power of suggestion but they seem to integrate theatrical
images into their songs. Different enough to claim an identity which in
the prog-world is saying something. Good enough to get me to buy their
    new one.

Divine Comedy is their new one and I think that they have gotten a lot
more cohesive although I have only listened to it twice. Three songs
and I think 60+ minutes. Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. Some decent
guitar work and different textures keep this very interesting. The only
downside is that it goes from stronger and harder to slower and weaker
(not that this is necessarily a bad thing - well, it kindof is).

Unlesss you are on a tight budget, I consider at least Divine Comedy
    worth buying, probably both.

Yay, I am redesigning my web pages for the last time (for a long time
anyway). YES there is DTC here. I have a new function for my site: an mp3
of the week page. There will be DT stuff up there (like EVE and things
from singles) as well as stuff from awesome bands like Braindance, Haji's
    Kitchen, and so-forth!

I think I'm finally going to start reading the jam again, so watch out! ;)

Nope, no dropped-D there. Since Myung has the low B string on the bass,
JP's chords could be in the first- or second-inversion, and as long as JM <or DS,
for that matter> root it everything will sound like the right inversion.
Sure, he could do them on the seven, but actually, the only FiI songs on the
    seven-string are NM and JLMB.

other video game stuff that would sound GREAT done by DT . . . In Final
Fantasy 3 for SNES, there's the music that runs while you're fighting the

about some Mortal Kombat stuff? They could do an entire album of video

And just when I thought that Gentle Giant were the pinnacle of
weird music, I listen to some contemporary "Classical" music composers.
Well, I never thought that I could laugh with instrumental music, but now,
I won't dare doubt anything more about music.

If you want fucking weird shit, go listen to:

            * Anton Webern's "5 Orchesterstucke Op. 10";
            * Olivier Messiaen's "Cinq Rechants";
            * Pierre Boulez's "Notations";
            * Igor Stravinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps" (not as weird as those
    listed before, but still interesting).

You'll agree with me that Yes' "Relayer" is the most commercial
shit in this fucking world. Dream Theater? Those guys making "Another
    Day"? Huh!

If they are too much for you, then you'll appreciate Chopin's

Hey fellow 'Jammers. If I could beg your indulgence a little bit . . .

As you are all aware we manage get our share of spam here on the Jam. No one is really happy about it, of course, but no one quite knows what to do about it. Well, for those of you in the USA, there are several pending bills in Congress that address the spam problem.

If you're interested in knowing what the provisions are of these bills and their chances to pass Constitutional muster, check out the latest issue of the West Virginia Journal of Law and Technology (http://www.wvjolt.wvu.edu) for an article about the three major bills out there.

I only post this here because I wrote the article and I'm looking for hits. :)

Hello Rogerio! have checked up to Mail No. 3554 and find it difficult to believe that no-one has replied on these bands! I'll try to be as informative as possible. Camel: >I've heard the first 9 tracks from Camel's "The Snow Goose" and >I'm wondering if the rest of the disc (don't know how many tracks the >disc has) is similar to what I've heard. I really like it and find that in >the department of melodic, soft music, it's some of the best things that I >have ever heard. Thumbs up! Are their other albums similar to this one? >No? Any comments are welcome. 'The Snow Goose' is Camel's 3rd. release and it's a concept album, based on Paul Gallico's The Snow Goose. The guys in the band chose to do this instead of Hermann Hesse's 'Steppen Wolf' (and almost got sued)! Previous -and later- albums by Camel had some vocals from different members. The songs were longer (as opposed to The Snow Goose, which was bits and pieces one after the other, but very short indeed!) and had a jazzier feel, although they were clearly more into progressive rock, with guitars and keyboards taking precedence over vocals. If you like The Snow Goose, then try A Live Record. This recording contains 'The Snow Goose' recorded live in its entirety and w/ full orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London! Check it out: this is the record that hooked me when I was just 10! My brothers used to play Yes and King Crimson when I was 6, and when they brought THAT, I went back to being a baby, because I shit my pants! A Live Record is a double CD, and in CD No. 1, a spectacular saxophone player, Mel Collins-ex King Crimson, Chris Squire, Baron Rojo, Alan Parsons Project... (who had joined the band) just adds to the wizardry of Andrew Latimer on guitars and Peter Bardens on keyboards! BTW, Their drummer at the time, Andy Ward, who left in ‘81 or so, due to an accident, later played in Marillion! I don't think there are any recordings of Marillion featuring Andy though... Anyway, Camel grew and changed a bit their style (dropped the jazz, more vocals), but always managed to put out both conventional and concept albums (Nude-based on a true story of a Japanese soldier who was left on a small island alone during 2nd. World War and was found some 25-30 years later and he thought that the war was still going on!; Stationary Traveller-about Berlin; Dust and Dreams-based on John Steinbeck's 'The Grapes of Wrath'; Harbour of Tears) and several live albums (Pressure Points, Never Let Go, and a couple of live CD's rescued by Mr. Latimer-the only remaining original member-from 1972 and 1982, published by a new record company: Camel Productions). In the years, Camel has seen many personnel changes. Those include: Anthony Phillips (Genesis, solo)-guitars Paul Burguess drums Simon Philips Sessions-drums Duncan McKay 10cc-keys Francis Monkman (Sky, Curved Air)-keys Chris Rainbow (Alan Parsons Project)-keys, vocals Mickey Simmonds (Mike Oldfield, Fish)-keys Kit Watkins (Happy the Man, solo)-keys Richard Sinclair (Caravan)-bass Stuart Tosh (10cc)-drums Colin Bass (Alan Parsons Project)-bass, vocals David Paton (Pilot, Alan Parsons Project)-bass, vocals Ton Scherpenzeel (Kayak)-keys Neil Panton oboe Jan Schelhaas keys I think I covered most of it.... More than once, Camel had 2 keyboard players! If I were you, I would pick up freely, blind-folded, any Camel CD. If you want to start with The Snow Goose, fine! But please, don't forget to check out ‘Nude' and ‘I Can See Your House From Here'. 3 of Camel's most beautiful melodies are in there: The Last Farewell in ‘Nude' and Eye of the Storm and Ice from ‘I Can See Your House...'. I put 2 of them in my list of best guitar solos of all time. Rogerio, I could tell you more on Camel if you want, or Renaissance. If you do, then write to me, and I can give you full details about their CD's, it doesn't bother me! I just think this is getting too long and not everyone is interested.... To make it very short on Renaissance, try 1st. 'Turn of the Cards' and 'Scheherazade and Other Stories'. BTW, Ritchie Blackmore put out a new album in which his wife sings, and it's all acoustic guitars and Ian Anderson plays flute!!! And they do a cover from Renaissance's 'Turn of the Cards', Mother Russia. BP No Signature!

Hello. I've just been to the Ozzy Osbourne concert last night. I have to say that it was nice to see him in such a good shape. I thought I was going to see a fat slob, but I didn't, he was doing fine. His voice sounds just like on records, and his band delivered a good performance, specially Zakk Wilde. This guy is awesome! The show was very simple. No flashy things, no fireworks, no nothing. I liked it, because he doesn't need any of those additions to put on a good show. The music does it. Was anybody from this list in the concert? Does anyone have a list of the songs played last night, or at any time during this tour? BP No Signature!

Could anyone who has made tapes of shows from the audience let me know about your successes/failures... what kind of equipment you used... etc...

Not that I want to try my hand a recording a show or anything :) I just would like it come out good if I were to ever think of trying... :)

    Thank You, -Paul
