    Hi Jammers
the 98 tour has definitely begun.
I traveled to Lyon by train, got there in the afternoon. Already some 30
people waiting. James had come out earlier to give signatures.
I spent my time talking to people and say hi to Vanden Plaas.
Talk to Bill another time (Bill Barcley, DT-tour manager) they told me.
It's the first day of the tour and it's pure chaos.

The hall holds some 2000 people. I got in among the 1st ones - and had to
wait inside another 10 minutes in front of a second door, weird French
habit... When the second door opened, there was already a crowd in front
of the stage, apparently another door had been opened before.

Opener Vanden Plaas played a pretty good set, they had, if I'm not
mistaken, more time than in december. The crowd was really into their
music, shouting along to some songs and particularly inbetween.
I had some nice folks letting me into the front row, with my camera.

Additions A second smaller drumkitt was placed in front of the stage for Hollow years. Mike ha a percussion drum with him (song???) and let the fans play on it. The guitar solo and the drum solo were quite long. Mike has BLOND hair!!! James has cut his hair. JP has a new guitar. Metropolis had(?) new keyboard inserts.

Mike told me untill the next show I'll be with them, in Germany, they will have a 'quite different' show. !!!!!?????????

Hi folks, the show in Strassbourg is not taking place, for whatever reason it is still on the list, I don't know. I've double checked with the hall, and of the tour crew, noone knows anything.

And now, a trivia question. Which album features performances from both Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian. Hint: it's a legitimate recording, not a bootleg.

    Oh no! It's Mecha-Ike!

    > Which is the best website to download "unheard" dream theater tunes?? I > someone can email me the address it would be great. Thanks!

Your *best* bet would be "Under A Cyber Moon" (Sound Clips section). It has links (with descriptions) to a lot of sites that contain rare Dream Theater material (including all the FII demos)... You can also get "uncook" and "phix" there, in case you have problems playing the files after you've downloaded them.

    http://www.prognosis.com/dream/

(Check out the "News" section for the tracklisting and times for the "Liquid Tension Experiment" album, if you're interested)

For downloading, I'd suggest using a program like "GetRight"... This program allows you to resume a download, after you get disconnected. You can also manually pause a download and resume it later on. First make sure the server you are downloading from supports this (most of the servers with rare Dream Theater stuff do).

You can get "GetRight" at Tucows and most other shareware sites.

    >And onto some real content, is anyone out there as curious as I am about >what gives with all of these "side" projects the boys are doing ?? >Seems to be a little excessive for comfort.

I'm curious about them, but I hardly consider it excessive. Look at it this way: How many people on this list *only* listen to DT and music like that? I'd guess not many; most people tend to have (at least semi-) varying tastes. I'm sure that holds true for the guys in DT as well. I'd rather see them flexing those creative muscles in a dedicated side project than trying to force music into the "DT mold" that doesn't really fit/belong.

I'm sure some of the guys would love to do a 72-minute instrumental DT album (well, KJLB probably wouldn't care for it, but...), but that isn't what DT *is*. So I consider the stuff like LTE just another creative outlet. With that much creative power in one group of people, I'd hate to see *any* of it go to waste. :)

as far as olympic music goes, the hockey rink PA was always blaring out hard rock/metal when the play was stopped.....didn't really recognize anything, but I could swear that one of the pieces (they kept playing the same 4 or 5 songs) was Satriani.....

and as for Rush, the Detroit Pistons free tv broadcasts play where's my thing" (or was that leave that thing alone) behind their player of the game announcement, and that goes for a good two minutes of higlights from the game.....always get a charge out of that.....

Here is my review of ET's masterpiece "APOCOLOKYNTOSYS" :

    1)The Eyes Of Universe (7:36)

Very good song. You can download the intro of this song from my page. A lot of time changes. Very good. One of my favorits. The 2nd sample of this song is just one of the cool parts.

    2)Rules Of Time (6:36)

I love the piano sound. This song reminds me of Surrounded. After the first 3 min, the song changes in a very cool part. You know like Surrounded (Piano intro, vocals, the band together, more vocals, very cool prog part, more vocals, solo, piano & vocals at the end).

    3)The Message Keeper (7:32)

This songs has 5 parts :

    Part I : The Light

The 1st sample on my page is the intro. I love this part. Very prog. Reminds me a bit of Ystejam !!! This intro just kicks ass

Part II : The Message Keeper

    Part III : The Flight

The 2nd sample in from the middle of this part. Very cool.

    Part IV : The Message

    Part V : The Indifference

Overall a kick ass song which has something for everyone.

    4)Runing Rusty Rails

I love this ballade. Another really cool piano sound. Great vocal melody.

    5)Apocolokyntosys (9:16)

The title track is an incerdible instrumental masterpice. One of the progressivest songs, I've ever heard.

    6)Middleman (4:42)

The hardest and fastest song on the album. I like the other songs much more than this one. But it's still a good song for me

    7)Silce Of Life (2:58)

The song beginns with a beautiful acustic guitar and great background keyboard sounds. I like the first half of the song more than the fast 2nd part which is also really great.

8)Screaming Loud The Sins Of The World (8:27)

    Part I : Intorspection

One of the coolest intros I've ever hard. Very dark and hard. Empty Tremor show's their quality as musicians as well as great song writer.

    Part II : The Entreay

    Part III : The Silence

I love this part of the song. The sampel on my page is from the middle of this part. I really love it. Great time changes, kick ass double bass part and cool vocals.

Part IV : The Only Way

What can I say. I just love this song.

After all, I think that Empty Tremor are the best band after Dream Theater, who makes progmetal at it's best like Images And Words. Just hear the samples on my page and judge for your self. Don't forget, that those samples are just short exerepts. On the album, there are lot of more great songs, incredible parts and ...

the minnesota timberwolves last year used the intro to metropolis pt.1 for their starting line-up background music... haven't caught an intro this year yet, so i don't know if it's still used...

Lastnight I had the pleasure of seeing Bela Flek and the Flektones at Cornell University. It was awesome. You guys think bass players like John Myung, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, and Billy Sheehan are good? You have to check out Victor Wooten. He plays circles around any of those guys. He played in many different styles. What really caught ear was when he was playing lead and rhythm at the same time. This guy ranks up there with Tony Levin and Mick Karn. And then there was Bela himself who was going nuts on the banjo. All sorts of nice lead stuff...it sounded almost like John Petrucci playing bluegrass on a banjo. They had a sax player...can't remember his name. At some points he was playing 2 saxes at once and was doing harmonies and the like. It was one of the greatest shows I can remember. If any of you have not seen the Flektones, and have an open mind when it comes to music, I highly recommend seeing them.

I had an unfortunate experience yesterday. I go to Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and I was in a car driving across town and when I left the IC parking lot, I saw a guy with a Dream Theater Ytsejam shirt on. I yelled out, "STOP THE FUCKING CAR!," but my driver just drove off. I was totally bummed out. In case some of you were not aware, Ithaca is hippie heaven, and if you don't listen to Phish or The Grateful Dead, then you're gonna run into some difficulties, so seeing this guy made me bug out.

This may be a long shot, but if anyone knows of any jammers or just fans who attend Ithaca College, can you PLEASE give me their names. Thank You :)
