pages and actually quite often got good and readable results, except for my

yes, heartiest and highest recommendations for bela fleck and the flecktones. "live art" is undoubtedly one of the greatest albums i own.
i know they had toured extensively with paul mccandless, who plays all sorts of woodwinds, and then i had heard that they were adding a fourth flecktone (as they were down to three after howard levy left). is this jeff coffin the new member? i was hoping it'd be mccandless, but i doesn't sound like they can go wrong either way.

Here is a list of the people I sent a zip file of the FII Young Guitar Tab and Pictures in GIF and JPEG format too. They PROMISED to put it on a website, so I feel no guilt listing their email addresses. I WANT you to bug each and everyone of them until they get it up on the websites. I know you guitarist are probably just as itchy to get this as I was while I was BUYING it. And I don't want to go through all the work of scanning, zipping, uploading to multiple possible websites, and not have it be open access. Here are the saviours that have promised to put it up on website of theirs or a friend. They are doing us all a favor by allowing access to them, so make sure you pay your respects.

Okay, there is another issue that was brought up. If you print this guitar tab are you committing a crime. OF COURSE YOU ARE. You are taking money from Young Guitar AND Dream Theater! But I would like to bring something to your attention. I would say 99.99999% of the websites I have visited are commiting a crime. The following is illegal. 1) Reproduction of Album Covers 2) Reproduction of Songs (MP3, WAV, RealAudio) - The record companies own the sound recordings and Dream Theater owns the mechanical rights (the intellectual property of the song itself) 3) Making your own tab of a copyrighted song for reproduction. 4) Verbatim Quotes from Magazine Articles
You take these away from websites and you are left with is NEWS on the band. They are available not because it is legal, but because it hasn't been prosecuted. Now there are levels of respect to the bands which are appreciated, but it is still illegal nevertheless. Law is pretty black and white on this one, however there is also the loophole that currently the file may not be illegal itself. It becomes illegal when you PRINT the tab or RECORD the sound byte. So if you fear the FBI hauling you away, just don't print the tab.
I was actually somewhat appalled that my actions were viewed as MORE on the thug side of the web. All I am trying to do is get out Dream Theater tab to the Ytse Jammers that enjoy it. I am not profitting. I feel it can only IMPROVE Young Guitar sales. It is a hard magazine to find, and I think these tabs will inspire REAL guitarist to look for this excellent (superior) magazine. The band quality is much higher than Guitar, Guitar World, Guitar Player, Guitar One, and all the other crap here in USA. Okay, Guitar World is okay because Petrucci has a column there. But the moment his column stops is the same moment my subscription is cancelled.
Okay, with that said, check out the websites for this very cool file. Also, after uploading it to the various names listed, I am stopping. I don't feel like doing five minute uploads 18 times over.

That it took only a few minutes was a coincident. Maybe it was because the connection was great, but not because the files were zipped.
But it's a good idea to zip them anyway, not to save some bytes (mp3s are as small as it gets) but to avoid scambling of the files. Some servers don't recognize mp3s as binary and when you download them with Netscape you get "cooked" files. If you hear something like boiling water instead of music, that's what happened ;-)

b) A very good friend of mine who has never taken a drum lesson in his life, and cannot play the drums at all, recently decided, after about 10 years of debating, to go out and get a drum set. He ended up getting a dw Collarback (I think it's called) 5-piece, with hardware, and a Zildjian ZBT 16" crash/ride and hi-hat setup, all for about $800. Can someone out there who is more knowledgeable about this than myself tell me if he got rooked or not? I'd appreciate it. (Personally, I think the drums sound pretty good - that 18" deep bass drum sounds like a shotgun, man!) Thanks!

A couple weeks ago I downloaded some .mp3 files, but they sounded really bad, so I used 'uncook' to repair them. Yesterday I downloaded the .mp3 FII demos using a different browser and the sound was alright. Then I used 'uncook' on them, just for fun and to see if something changes, and they sounded like shit. After that I used 'phix', but then they sounded even worse! So now if you want you can use 'uncook' to cook the files. Isn't that a cool thing? :-) 19 days to my second DT show!!!

The questions of second thought of going with Jordan instead of Derek on keys is invalid, but sparks some good possible debate. Of course what happened was Jordan Rudess returned with the Dregs after one DT show. So, I don't think DT really made the choice to not play with Jordan. Jordan made the choice to not play with DT in favor of the Dregs.
Now as for whether DT wish they had Jordan instead of Derek is the real question. As far as personalities go, from what I can tell Derek fits in like he was with them from the beginning. When I saw the DT/Fates show at the Galaxy in Anaheim, CA on Dec. 8, 1994, Mike and Derek were having a hell of a time together. (But if you have ever met Mike in person, you would know he can have fun with everyone. He took the time to talk to me and a friend for a full half hour before a show). Mike and Derek were throwing food from the balcony at Fates during their set, all in good fun. Fates returned the "favor". Derek's psychedelic influence is obviously rubbing off on the other members of DT.
When I listen to "A Change of Seasons" with Derek and ACOS with Kevin, I recognize very distinct differences. My observation is that Derek excels over Kevin when it comes to textural keyboard that really adds dimension to the song. However, Kevin can definitely run circles around Derek when it comes to great keyboard solos. "6:00" key solo is pure genius.
I haven't heard much of Jordan Rudess so I can't comment.
I would like to hear comments on Kevin vs. Derek vs. Jordan. I am sure Kevin will walk away with this one if not for pure sentimental reasons. Does anyone actually hate Derek? I think FII is great because it is the first true taste of Derek's influence. And although FII is "less" progressive, it is still a great album. I can't get enough of Hell's Kitchen / Lines in the Sand. The more dance / industrial version of "You or Me" (demo) is also very cool. When I really think about it, I like the whole album. The first thing I noticed when I listened to it is that overall, DT has gone "less progressive", mixed more funk and jazz, and probably come closer to Progressive Hard Rock than the Progressive Metal of the past. Images and Words was a great album, but does that mean they always have to write like that. I don't always write in the same vein. With the eclectic influences of DT, what do you expect but vastly different albums. You can't deny that WDADU sounded more like early Fates, IAW was the progressive peak, Awake was the journey into very moody swings, and FII has shown an influence of "groove" and jazz. I personally love the variety. At first I was depressed that FII wasn't a Metropolis part 2, 3 and 4, but then I got over my inmaturity.
Post your opinions to the jam. I am tired of hearing "FII is so commercial". That sounds like a comment fromt the same people that will stop listening to Dream Theater if they ever hit it really big because it is no longer a cult thing. Get over it. If it's commercial, tell me why that is bad. There might have been pressure from the record company to tone down the prog, but the song is still there.

Thanks for the endorsement, but I do want to let people know about a recent problem. I try to get the shirts out in the mail the same week that I receive payment. This usually keeps turn around at about 1 week in the states, as much as 3 overseas. However, I had an order recently that took about two months to fill. It was a shirt for Vito Staedler in Switzerland, and I appologize to him for the amount of time that it took.
The problem was because I couldn't make out his handwritting, and I didn't want to ship to the wrong address. It was compounded by the fact that I couldn't read his email address either, so I couldn't do anything until *he* contacted *me*. We got in touch last week, and the shirt was mailed over the weekend.
If you are placing an order with me, please either include all address and contact info (phone, email, etc) typed or printed. Also, if you can, send me email ahead of time to let me know the order is on the way. This way if there *are* any problems, I can contact you right away. Hopefully these precautions will prevent any future delays.
There are about 38 shirts remaining at this time, all XL. I'll post another update soon, but in the meantime, email me with any questions.
