Hi Jammers,
I met Kevin on saturday around noon (local time mid-europe) on the Ytsejam
channel. He mentioned he might be back with DT 'when the money is right'
and he also said 'Derek won't last too long.'
When I asked back: 'kidding or not?' he replied 'seriousely'!!!!!!!
Cheers

This message concerns those Finnish Jammers that are attending the show
at the House of Culture, Helsinki on March 4.
We are planning a gathering in a near-by restaurant before the gig.
So if you are coming and want to meet other jammanoids, please email me
privately (TENZE@HOTMAIL.COM).

Thanks, Phil, I was the original poster mentioning TD. Appreciate the TD
post, I have heard about "Canyon Dreams", but couldn't find it lately.
But I'll keep searching.

I bought some new CDs.
Spock's Beard - The Light
-------------------------
Wonderful. I think I actually almost like this better than Beware of Darkness.
Great lyrics. Neal Morse is a phenomenal songwriter. I am *really* looking
forward to The Kindness of Strangers on the 26th of January.
Finneus Gauge - More Once More
------------------------------
Mindless tuneless notestabbing. Utterly unlistenable. These guys wouldn't
know a harmony or a key signature if it shoved a tree up their collective
arse (which is where their heads currently are). What is the point in this?
The lyrics are awful too . . . do I remember a song about a sale in a
department store? Jesus Christ.

What about that?
Your logic doesn't work. Ditching your old sound and the fans that liked it for a new set of fans doesn't make much sense. On the other hand, playing the same old stuff that the fans "require" of you, when you rather be playing something else isn't right either. It is also a form of "selling out". Not being true to yourself and your ideas. In the case of Metallica, I just think that now we are seeing influences beyond James and Lars in the music. Metallica changing their sound to gain more fans doesn't wash with me. They could have made BA II and done just as well and wouldn't have alienated as many. As to whether or not they have "sold out", you have to ask the band that. As for me, I could care less. I am not a big Metallica fan.

Wow, talk about a couple of blasts from the past. I haven't heard anything from Mahogany Rush since I lost about 1/2 of my hearing at one of their shows (shall I say quite a bit of time ago ...). I CANT imagine that they could pull off Pictures, but if anyone knows of *them* actually doing it, please forward the particulars to me. Tangerine Dream included this on their CD "Turn of the Tides".
Hint for future questions: That place CD Now allows you to do all of those neato searches online !! Oh well, it still made for a hella cool flashback .........

For what it matters, I think that a point that should be made is that if you witness someone partaking in one of life's vices, you would be best served keeping it to your self.
And, on a related matter, I just have to know. Does your above attitude also imply that since you were in Amsterdam, you just HAD to do a prostitute in their famous red-light district ?? (just kidding.......well kindof.......:)

First of all,. I doubt Kevin would be on a Ytsejam channel. Secondly, I don't think he would come back to DT -- it doesn't have to do with money, plus I don't think the band would ask him back....Thirdly, I don't see Kevin saying that about Derek.... Maybe I'm just taking this post too seriously.

If James is a pot head, I am not happy about it, but his voice on this tour is the strongest I have heard him since the I&W tour. Also, after the show I met James outside the club, and someone asked "how do you keep your voice in such good shape", and James said that he doesn't smoke, doesn't drink and tries to work out when on the road. What he does when on hiatus is still a mystery.

I think you can. If a hooker stands on the corner trying to sell herself, and no one picks her up, she is still a sellout. If a band tries to conform to make money, and no one buys their record, they are still a sellout. Some sellouts (Metallica) are luckier than others (Faster Pussycat).

Okay. A band recording material solely to get *new* fans is bad. A band recording material solely to get the *old* fans is OK. I don't get it.
If a band is recording material specifically for anyone other than themselves first and foremost is wrong. If DT puts out another album just like I&W or Awake because fans liked that stuff, then they're wrong. That's just as much of a cop-out as abandoning a style simply to adapt one that's more profitable (and no, DT hasn't done that).

Yes...Kevin will be back shortly. But remember, he still has testicular cancer. So when he leaves due to having to go to the hospital, Derek will already be gone and thus there will be no keyboardist for Dream Theater.
I'm pretty sure that what I said is true since I was hanging out with James last night. He told me this while smoking his second pack of cigarettes.

if you are looking to order to tab, I was able to pick it up at my location Sam Ash music store. if you don't have one in the immediate area, they have a web site (don't know the address off-hand) give them a call they, can usually have it to you in a couple of days.
you might also want to look up the Under a Cyber Moon web site. they have a pretty good selection of tab, and best of all it's free.
Also if anyone has any bootlegs that they would love to part with, I'm open to any reasonable price range. even if it is a copy (as long as it isn't unhearable)
