WARNING: The following could be considered a Xmas CD spolier...

O.k. I have to get this off my chest: The "improvised solo" that Derek
takes before they play Anna Lee on the Xmas CD is neither improvised nor
a solo. It is a song. Actually to be more specific: It is a Rick
Wakeman tune. If my memory serves me correctly, it is the first track
off his "Six Wives of Henry VIII" album.

I know that my messages are the fault of the "quadruple spacing"
incident, but I did not do it intentionally. When I typed my messages,
I only pushed the return key twice between lines. Why an extra line got
included is a mystery to me.

    >>Does cheese= selling out? Does that mean that Kenny G. is a sellout? And whose cheese are we talking about anyway? <<

By "selling out" I mean playing a specific style just to make a profit. Not to be creative.

    >>What do you mean by "benefit?" Are you referring to being "influenced" by someone?<<

By "benefit" I mean the attempt to acquire money. Being influenced is a creative decision, to strive to become rich is a finacial decision.

    >>If so, than DT must be sellouts, as is every musician playing today because everybody is influencing everybody else.<<

I already explained this in the statement above.

    >> you originally labeled Enuff Z'Nuff as sellouts because of their IMAGE (make-up, etc), not the music. So which is it?<<

Both. If you ask me, their music is cliche. I have heard this music a million times before, if this music makes you happy so be it. They seem to write formulas instad of songs. I like to be surprised, I don't like to be able to predict the next measure of the song without any effort whatsoever. >>No offense, but every band "portrays" an image to a certain extent, even those that just wear jeans and t-shirts. That's called reality.<<

In reality everyone does have an image but when your image takes presidence over the music that is selling out(IMHO).

    >>I guess every band is a sellout then (one could possibly make an argument for that, I guess).<<

NO. Once again, if a band stives for commercial success while ignoring their creative abilities they would be considered a sellout.

    >>And if a band happens to have an original image (ie. KISS, though I'm sure someone here will disagree with me) are they selling out?<<

Once again, sellingout is adopting an already proven lucrative commodity. KISS tried something new and it worked. They created the image not mimicked an image.

Why not hit the return key once perhaps, everyone else seems to be able to manage that :) And the 50 or so signature, what about that ?

First disappointment in the new year.... I still did not revcieve my X-mas (??) Cd through the Dutch fanclub. Any other jammers have the same "problem"?

By the way, James smokes!! I met him once in Amsterdam (the day of the MELKWEG concert) in Amsterdam in..... a " cofffeeshop". Got his autograph though, and his voice was really good that night!! (As you can hear on the Boot of that concert). Better named that boot HIGH LIVE ......

In a message dated 98-01-05 21:16:59 EST, you write:

<< You or Me is great! It is at least 100 times better than You NOT Me. This recording confirms all of my suspicions about Desmond Child's doctoring of the song. Before, I thought that _MAYBE_ Desmond hadn't really changed too much, and that maybe it was just a weak song to begin with. But no! Every single thing that I don't like about You NOT Me was Desmond Child's doing (assuming that any changes between this recording of You OR Me and the final You NOT Me are completely his fault). I'll spare you a detailed analysis of the song, and just say this: You OR Me sounds like a single, coherent Dream Theater song, which flows smoothly from beginning to end. It's not their best work, but not near their worst. You NOT Me (in my opinion) sounds like it was loosely patched together from pieces of a really bad Dream Theater song (if such a thing exists) and pieces of a really bad Aerosmith song. >>

Sorry, but I like the FII version 100 times better. I mean that chorus is killer!!! It's a great pop song. I guess if you don't like really good pop then maybe the demo is for you. The demo version drags quite a lot. The FII version really attacks like the rest of the CD. I keep seeing on here how much everyone hates YNM. Bottom line here is very obvious...if Desmond Child was never even mentioned as having helped write this...everyone would be praising this song like the rest of the CD. I'm sure no one will admit it but it's very obvious. I'm not a fan of Desmond Child but if someone, whomever it is, can boost a song in this way, then it's a win-win situation.

I have mentioned Tangerine Dream a lot. There where also sometimes in my TOP 10 ALBUMS of the week. I've also mentioned Jean Michel Jarre a lot.

But since my best friend Graham Boyle (if only I could understand what his problem with me is) has mailed so many negativ things about me and my top 10, I've decided to keep it away. I don't want to start a flame war.

TD have actually more then 60 albums (including all the great soundtracks). All albums in the last 30 years are different to each other. But I think, that Kevin Moore's Chroma Key sounds different. I've heard some demos and I must say it sounds like Industrial music (IMO).

His album "DEAD AIR FOR RADIOS" should be out in Europe before April.

Has anybody more informations about the release date for Chroma Key ?

Hm... didnt know portnoy could play a little piano!

have you noticed in track 11, writing the hells kitchen finale, aside from all the "directing" portnoy is doing..at about 3:00 min , he says something like.. "here, lemme get on the piano.." and starts doing the rest with petrucci???

    Cool huh?

Yes, it seem like a lot of people don't like JLB's voice. And come to think of it, I didn't either when I first started listening to DT. But is seriously grows on you and now I just love it. Even though it could have been better on FII. He really should use his vibrato, because without he sounds too weak. With it he sounds spectacular.
