You have some good choices, but I belive you're way off on
Fates Warning : Pleasant Shade of Gray...have you seen them live?

    Are you previously a fan?

Thanks for the post Jon, I was just going to send the same type message.

Peter saying he has heard Tangerine Dream once before is like someone
saying they heard YNM and think that DT sounds like an 80's rock band.

Jon is right, there are over 40 albums out by TD. I would start with
Optical Race. That was the first one I heard and I took to it. I'm
surprised nobody has mentioned them before on this list since I've
joined. Hell, if we can talk about Metallica on this site, why can't we
    discuss some TD?

Shit, I am one of those people who would love to see them ONE night live.
Be happy you're seeing them at all. Talk about nit-picking.

Just this second finished listening to ACOS... Man what an epic piece.
That climax, with the high piano keys, just kicks ass. And it's just about
the only track that I can catch Derek doing real solo work. I need to hear
more of Derek as a soloist if I'm to compare him realistically to KM.

Question to you drummers: I'm pretty sure MP is mimicking one of Neal
Peart's fills at the end of ACOS, but I can't seem to remember the Rush
song. Am I right? If so, which one is it?

    Hi there,

my name is Fernando and I'm from Brazil. I've subscribed the list a few
months ago just to learn more about DT. This is my first message and,
well, here we go. I'd just like to know if somebody here have or
listened to the Uncovered (I'm not sure if it's the name) bootleg. The
guy from the store said something about a double CD bootleg only with
covers. He also said that the sound isn't 100% good.

Can anybody give me a hand (And sorry for my poor English. It really
    sucks!)?

    Thanks!

Inflated egos are great aren't they!

Opinions and opinions and more opinions.............The fact that people
know who helped arrange the song has tainted it, and made an excuse to
place blame for reasons that I just don't understand and probably don't
    care to.

Not necessarily... they "attempted" to sell out, but failed miserably... QR
that is... makes them twice the losers they are...

I think that they just tried something different (for them) and it didn't
work out. I am not saying that HiTNF is their best release, which we all
agree that it is not, but I still like it.
So I guess that anyone that tries something different and it comes out in
an unexpected (negative) way is a loser, that is according to you.

    Well I definitely don't agree.

Does anyone really care about Yngwie these days ?
I got sick of his music about 5 years ago, average song writing
and a horrible (same) fast un melodic solo in just about every song.
Guys like Timo Tolkki leave Yngwie for dead and are great songwriters.
Having said this it will be interesting to hear the Concerto album
to see if he can control himself :)

I once heard Chip Z'Nuff on Howard Stern and he said that the image
that the band "portrayed" hurt them in the long run. I feel that
"portraying" is a form of selling out. When an artist "portrays" they
stop being original. Let it be known, that I don't hate Enuff Z'Nuff,
but I don't like them either. There are a lot of bands out there that are
100 times worse (don't even get me started on Everclear).

If you are talking about the Uncovered bootleg that is on Kobra records
(Krcd 08/9) then the quality is quite good, it contains the full
    Uncovered show, plus various demo's.

Yeah, I have it and I rate it as a B+ boot (with some moments
rated as A-). It is a soundboard which has probably been recorded on an
analog tape and then transferred to CD. It has some hiss (well, I think
that the background noise is really annoying during those slow passages,
    such as Rush's "Tears").

If you want a copy of it, drop me a mail and we can trade...

Nobody cares if your English is good or not as long as you post
    interesting things.

            Hope this helps, Roger...

I don't know about you guys, but I know 4 of his albums and they are all different, I think (but I confess that I only paid real attention to "Rising Force"). The others that I know are "Magnum Opus", "Inspiration" and "Odyssey" (I think). The best is "Rising Force" and the songs with lyrics aren't as interesting as the instrumental ones.

    > Having said this it will be interesting to hear the Concerto album > to see if he can control himself :)

Well, that must be very interesting. But I'd like to know if the concerto will be a concerto for orchestra and guitar or if there will be other instruments soloing...

Ugh! Do you think the sound quality of that one is good?!? Of course, we have no better bootleg from that show, but it is OK at most, IMO. If you want to hear a *GOOD* bootleg, then you should listen to Megadeth's "Live at Ferrocarril Oeste", the final show from the Youthanasia tour. I have seen no bootleg as good as this one.

It is *THE* perfect bootleg. It leaves both "The Dance of Eternity" and "Lost in the Sky" in the smoke!!! It is also much better than Metallica's "Destroyer" 3 CD set (which people agree is one of the best bootlegs ever made).

Just for your own reference, it has the same quality of Metallica's "Live Shit: Binge & Purge" box. And it is a bootleg. Marcelo Vanzin (another brazilian 'jammer) came here at home and also was surprised to see what a cool sounding bootleg it is.

And it has "Holy Wars" :-) I really think that Capitol Records should contact the person who produced this CD and hire him (or the group of people that made it) to produce more live CDs. The perfect soundboard recording. If you want to read more about it, point your browser to <http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/bootleg.html> and follow the link to this bootleg.
