Well, Vanden Plas's new album hasn't been too bad... and you've got

Symphony-X, I haven't heard much, we (well, me and you and those who

Personally, I hope the new Angra comes out soon...

We should see releases from Lemur Voice, Chaos Theory and that "project" on
    Magna Carta sometime this year...

Would someone type that article? I've heard it was not so long.. and I can't find here the mag nor online article at Keyboard's web page. Anyway Derek can say it's not a Trinity sound but it sounds the same on my Trinity. I just want to say you can't blame Kevin for not using a Trinity or Z1 on I&W or Awake cause these are new models... I think he made out the maximum from the JD800 and the DW8000 and now he uses mainly Kurzweil K2000 which is a killer synth. And to the guy saying he can hear Tangerine Dreams in Chromakey: are you joking??? I've heard TD once and I think that's the most boring music since Jean M. Jarre!

Does anyone know if DT are going to be releasing a new album soon? Also, what the (interesting combination of salivation and words beginning with F here) does IMO mean?

Buster: > Im just being silly man...I don't flip out when people > spell it Theatre instead of Theater, it just amazes me > that there are so many fans that still "slip" on that.

    I totally agree here...

Also, does anyone know if DT are going to tour Australia anytime in the near future? (ie. before I die)

Yeah, my friend gave me a copy of I&W (less LTL and half of WFS) on one side of a 90 minute tape (with Tesla - Bust A Nut on the other side). I wasn't sure if I liked it, and passed it off as 'just another band'. About a year later I listened to it on my $15 ACME walkman with terrible sound quality while on a bus from Tumby Bay to Adelaide (it was a school careers trip), and I loved it. I loved it so much I went and bought the CD of I&W. Since then, I've bought FII, Awake, Marquee, and I got WDADU today. I play guitar and have the tab book for Awake (and soon I&W as well), and can play most of it OK. DT rules my life now. <Muhahaha> :)

Hey Charlie K, don't pay out Chris Farley, or I'll take you to the ... vet? What? Nothing!

Hi everybody, I have a suggestion concerning people who want to go to more than one show on the upcomming DT-Europe tour?

    Why not exchange accomodationplaces?

I will certainly travel to some shows in Germany. If anyone is interested in attending the concert in Zurich, Switzerland, I would provide a place to sleep, though my appartement is really tiny, but I'm sure I could also find friends who help.

The concert is on april 1st, tickets are already available locally though nothing is on the net!!! Actually they have been for at least 2 weeks. So check locally when you live in a country where no concertdates have been announced yet.

    Cheers Choon-Kang

I remember being in pawn shop (best place to find used cds that are both cheap and not that readily available-aka out-of print and sometimes even bootlegs-people sell the damnedest things!) and seeing this cd by some group named Dream Theater. As if there was this beacon of light shining on this cd, I was possessed to pick it up. I then gained from the pictures and lyrics that this was "the coolest band of ALL TIME!". So, I plucked down my $4.24 (Tax on USED items still baffles me in a HUGE way!), went out to my car with the modern day Holy Grail (aka-IaW-the only LaBrie DT cd at the time), and proceeded to blow out my left rear speaker on my way home whilst listening to Pull Me Under. I've never been the same sense (neither were my other three speakers, until I replaced my car with better factory installed components!) So, needless to say I have bored all I can. Go back to listening to your DTIFC Christmas cds (I love the fact that I got to cds for $15 I sent in last January-Hell Yes I re-subscribed! Anyone who has ever had to deal with the Web USA,Marillion's fan-club in the US (certainly not Marillion's fault, I might add), fully understands how a good fan club is run and how a poor one is done-KUDOS TO DTIFC!). Later, Kevin.

PS-Anyone who bitches about the (FREE!) cd they received in the mail should see how far they can stick it up their ass or just give it to someone who obviously likes this group and would pay their left testicle for it (or, if your a lady, let me know what it's worth to you:) (Warning, politically incorrect sexist remark-so sue me!). QUIT YA BITCHIN', know one cares!

I had my Queesnryche Operation: Mindcrime CD in the car stereo when a friend of mine got in the car. He asked me, "Is the Dream Theater?" I said, "Who's Dream Theater?" During lunch he started talking about DT and this CD he bought last year and said that evening before we headed out, he would let me borrow it.

The next day I drove down to Clemson University to see my fiancee. I popped in the CD Images and Words, and don't I closed my jaw the whole way down there. A DT fan was born.

I'm not a long-time ytsejammer, but I'm long-time hearer of DT music and other prog bands. I found their music first time on the local radio station. They played PMU all the time there, but this song wasn't too progressive for me. It was a common heavy metal, sounded very good, but there was nothing new for me. After a half or the year, my friend took "Awake" album, and it was perfect, very progressive, connected and similar to Rush a little, but with unique atmosphere(which they lost on the FII CD). I wanted to buy it asap, but wasn't available, so I bought I&W. I was very surprized, it was prog like "Awake", and more clear-sounded. PMU was the most commercial track from this CD, the track for the radio station. As you see, PMU was my first and little experience with DT, "Awake" - the first full album of this band I've listened to. Regards, Mike

I could care less about Faster Pussycat or Enuf-z-nuff but how can you consider Kix a sellout? If you would have listened to Kix's full catalog (perhaps around 6 albums) you would have seen that Kix constantly put out something that was between Hard Rock and Metal. Where did they sell out? They did not go alternative. Maybe you consider their one big hit which was a ballad when they sold out? All the 80's hard rock bands put out a ballad. Kix was always a hard rock borderline metal band. Kix could have gone the alternative route but they did not.

They don't even exist anymore. The lead singer is in a band called Easy Money or something. They are playing at Jaxx sometime in the future. Mike from Division can tell you more since his band is opening.

from brian hansen: >This brings up a question... When trying to introduce people to DT, I often >hear "I hate the vocals". And then they won't even give DT a chance. Do >other people get this?

brian's hitting on a good question here. two individuals to relate here that i know: the first never liked the vocals, just sorta had a passsing appreciation DT for the music. every time labrie hits a high note, she sorta just cringes and shakes her head. like in the whole bridge section of AL, the chorus of TAMP, etc. thing is, she's at least always disliked labrie's voice. she represents the mainstream listener.

the second person is a fan of DT since WDADU, but he simply doesn't like the new album. we were listening to it, to BMS, and in the "don't give a shit" part, he looked at me and just said something like, "what does he think he's trying to do?" he always liked labrie simply 'cause he sang in a way that fit the music.

    >Just a thought, but if DT wants more commercial success, maybe James should >use the lower end of his range more often...

i've been thinking a lot about it, especially since brian had e-mailed me privately about this during my wonderful vacation from work, and i tend to think it's more complicated. a lot of the stuff i've been listening to, like tool, radiohead, rollins, i'm drawn to liking the vocals not for their technical flawlessness or whatever, but for their power. similarly, i like fates' APSoG so much more than say, PS, in part because the vocals are so much cleaner, more natural. Same thing with listening to Livecrime rather than Mindcrime.

with DT, though... boy, i don't know how i can say this without pissing people off... labrie, when he moves away from the powerful higher vibrato, doesn't strike me as all that powerful. in other words, when KJLB sings in his masterful vibrato, like in Voices, LTL, Surrounded, etc etc etc, it blows me away... but a lot of people find it whiney. i tend to think, though, that that is just his style, and i don't think he'd have too much success with moving away from it. it's sort of a dilemma--stick with his best style, and continue turning off the majority (who don't like high vibrato vox), or try to get rougher, more mainstream, and risk sounding... pretty silly.

    >P.s. I like James' voice both ways. High pitch is ok with me, I liked >Geddy Lee on 2112!

agree 100%, but for every rush fan who digs the vox on 2112, there's 5 casual listeners who discard immediately because of those same vox.
