"I just picked up his new "Acoustic Visions" CD. Not bad. The liner notes
say that it's all one-take, which is some feat judging by some of the more
intricate tracks. Pretty cool material"
I'll second that. David put the album together to answer the question "Can
acoustic guitar be heavy?" And the answer is a resounding yes! One guitar
creates a sound rich enough to fill an arena. Any fans of acoustic guitar,
or just good guitar work in general should give this album a listen. I have
a couple of RealAudio sound samples at

Hey, Jammers. I spoke with the guy at the record store I go to, and there is
a tentative release date (unconfirmed) of Feb. 24! Also be on the lookout for
Union (Bruce Kulick's new project--featuring John Corabi on vocals), as well
as the new VH disc. If there are any Howard Stern fans out there, I'm looking
for a copy of the reading of Jackie Martling's resignation letter! From what I
heard, Howard took a day out of his vacation time to go on the air live to
deal with the matter! Do any of you think Scott did the required 17 push-ups??
If anybody knows any specific details about the Impact project, please let me
know.

Can you tell it's my day off? 3 posts in as many minutes...
I was sent this post which was originally found on the new Led Zeppelin list ("For Badgeholders Only" or some such title). Haven't seen any mention of this on the 'Jam.

The "Hollow Years" video is a live-video? Wow. I wouldn't expect that.
Dunno what show the guy was talking about either. Not either of the ones I went to (Long Island and DC). Apparently, there's much discussion of OFB on the Zeppelin list. Popular opinion among said circle seems to be that they're the best band touring today. It probably helps that they played "Rock 'n Roll" (and a slew of other Zep covers). Ooh, a bite of cynicality.

Grin... yeah, '97 was a real drag for me. The teeth thing is a good thing in the long run though... the constant headaches finally have gone away for good. Meanwhile, I have a nice jagged scar on my backside from the stabbing and it really goes over well at parties. :)

That sounds about right. Personally, I think the additional verses are excellent, and I would very much enjoy one day hearing DT play a live arrangement of TAMP with all the verses from each version intact (making it an extended song). Unlike most people it seems, I actually like TAMP and rank it right up there with the best songs on the album, Trial of Tears and Lines in the Sand. (IMO).
Also on the Xmas CD 97, notice Derek's piano solo thingy near the end. Fantastic! That was a pleasant surprise if there ever was!!

I went to ELP show here in Brazil (Curitiba - 1997) and it was great!!!! All those classics tunes from the 70s progressive scene were played perfectly!!! It was the first time I listened to a show that had a better sound quality alive than on TV... The sound was clear!!! And the musicians still are ones of the greatest!!! The set was based on the old tunes, showing to everyone songs like Knife Edge, Lucky Man, Honk Tonk Train Blues, etc... All the members still are making a marvelous job in ELP... Emerson makes the show part!!! He is a show man!!! Lake (fat man!!!) still has the same voice quality, singing with an amazing feeling. And Palmer rules!!! His work on drums still can teach the new drummers.

I wasn't totally surprised to read the comments from the radio DJ. In these days of corporations owning giant chains of radio stations, they're going to micro-manage their audience to attempt to deliver the most perfect demographic for their advertisers, much like almost every other form of entertainment these days.
The interesting question is how many people do they use on these music surveys? I'm sure it's a really, really small number, in comparison to their audience size. And what sort of demographic information do they use to determine who will respond to these surveys? Again, another way to control or "spin" the results. In a somewhat related example, TV ratings are determined by 1000 or so households in the US, and all of these homes must have at least one child (I'm referring to the homes with the permanate meters, not the folks that get a diary they're supposed to fill out for a week). Wouldn't it be interesting to see what TV ratings were like if the sample pool was greatly expanded, or if even everyone's house was wired? I'd suspect that similar results would occure as when record charts drastically changed when actual sales results were measured.
While a good chunk of the population probably does fall into the "I only like songs I know" camp, there's probably a large number that would be interested in a bit more challenging forms of music, if only they were exposed to it, even occasionally.

Bill Hicks, comedy genius, who sadly left us long before his time. If anyone out there has not heard this man, track down his CDs (on Rhino Records, I think). Some of the funniest stuff you will ever hear. I think the joke quoted above used Garth Brooks instead of the Spice Girls, but it works with either one.
Bill made an "appearance" in a recent issue of "Preacher", one of the more entertaining comics being published today. Something else worth checking out.

JP said in a guitar mag interview that it's actually both of them playing the whole thing at all times and then afterwards they just panned it back and forth every five notes or so for a cool effect. That's why they both play the whole thing live instead of trading off.

As much as a fan I am, I never torture myself by saying they should have done this song another way or why didn't they do this instead of that. I also never analyze and pick holes in the music like some of you seem to be obsessed in doing :) Yes I know it's just your opinion, but for 'peat's sake' can we just enjoy the band for what it is and not what it's not ?

The funny thing is, is that if he was never mentioned in the liner notes how many of you "raggers" would even know the difference and without hearing the demo version. Just because one person helped or suggested or added constructive criticism to a very talented band doesn't mean the band has failed or recorded a poor tune. I would be willing to bet that if he was never mentioned alot of you "critics" would have a different view of the song.
Please get over it........
>You have to respect a band that can put out 5 albums that all rock >and are all different.
Yes Queensryche did 7.. 1 Mindcrime 2 Rage 3 Empire 4 Queensryche EP 5 Promisedland 6 Warning 7 HiTNF (Totally different but still rocked)
>I'd like see Metallica do that. People that say DT has sold out >should take a look at the real sell outs: Metallica, Queensryche and >I Mother Earth
Doesn't selling out mean going mainstream and selling lots of CD's and becoming unbelievably popular, lots of radio play, MTv, etc.... Well two out of the three listed did not "sell out". All that they did was release new material that sounded different from the previous.
