Man, this is TWICE in one week that I've had this sentiment... you all
kick ass!! Thanks a ton for watchin' my back in the Ptacek argument.
I'll watch yours anytime you need it. Man, I got kinda heated up back
there.. hope I didn't weird anyone out. You all know I'd rather be
havin' fun at a DT show somewhere.

And just for those who don't know or never found out: yes, I give Mike
Portnoy free discs of everything. I try to give him 4 or 5 of each
title, to distribute as he sees fit, and I will give him more if he asks
for it. Thanks to the stud we call "Syrinx", he now has his Mosaic discs
hand delivered, and I hope he digs 'em.

All's well in the physical world of boots. I finished the master today
for "And the 1% Rules America" (Queensryche). For lack of any way to
position the material better, it will be a triple CD of two complete
Mindcrime tour shows back to back, with bonuses. One of the two shows is
soundboard, the other audience DAT, and both are just amazing with
setlists different enough to warrant inclusion. Since VS has been
frustrating to manufacture, I'll put this one off til VS's orders are
completely fulfilled, and limit it to 100 or so to be safe.

I think this could be a good thing - KM has undoubtably heard DT since DS joined. Maybe KM will adapt to accept some of the heavier and jazzier riffs that DS has brought to DT. If Kevin keeps his own style while also 'jazzing' up some songs like Derek did, we may see a completely new face of DT - hopefully for the better.

I believe it's a chapter in one of the books in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That's where I remember that name from, don't know much about the band....

I have to strongly disagree with this. Superior totally rock ! Okay, so they might not be as complex as DT or LV, but that isn't something to take away from them. There is still plenty of prog elements in there and in the times they lack the technical drive, they compensate more than enough with sheer energy and power that takes them far beyond any similar bands, such as Savatage and Crimson Glory.

Superb vocals; Good, heavy, crunching guitars; solid, crisp rhythm structures courtesy of great bass and drum work; all polished off with some excellent keys make this CD well worth a listen.

    Well, IMHO anyway...

Wow, what a perfect description of 'Behind'.Can't wait to hear the follow up which should be out later this year. Great to know there are more Aussies who have the good taste to like Superior too :)

If anyone wants guitar tab for any songs from Awake, I can type it out and send it (I've got the tab book, which includes guitar arrangements for keyboard as well). I can do anything from I&W as well, but I the book's in the mail at the moment, and could be at least two weeks in coming.

Hmmm.... maybe I missunderstood ya when you said that if I were a real musician that I'd figure it out by ear.... Maybe I should tell ya a little about myself..

I've been playing for about 15 years now and been working on DT material for about 3... I can figure out just about anything by ear but it's the little Erotomania type sections where I feel that I should be double checking myself.. Anyone who doesn't and goes to play a DT cover tune out would be dumb...

Maybe you missunderstood me but I don't need the tab for the music, I need it for the double checking... And in a lot of cases, I'm wrong on the fast runs that JP does... But I hardly think that I deserve to be looked down upon as a musician because of that... Music is all I do man... BTW, not meant to argue, just discuss :)

    Hi Jammers,

    1. I was on the chat for the 2nd time in my entire life.

    2. The person who was called Mike, had an '@' in front of the name, which I took for a sign, that some official was on there, also he changed the mode so 'portnoy something'.

    3. I than took it for granted that this other person, beeing adressed by everyone as Kevin and logged in and with an adress 'chromakey' would really be Kevin.

    4. I've been cured from believing everything on the IRC now.

    Cheers Choon-Kang

Trinity is the 61-key version. Plus is with the Prophecy card. Pro is the 76-key version and this is what Derek use AFAIK. Pro-X is the 88-key hard key version.

OK, with everyone absolutely thrashing Chris Ptacek, try looking at it this way: most of us are quite passionate about music. That passion manifests itself in many ways: writing, performing, listening, producing, etc. For most of us also, then, as a result of this passion, the integrity of music as highly personal emotional and intellectual property is extremely important. One possible outcropping of that passion, particularly for a writer of music, is a belief that anyone profitting at all from the music, aside from the writer/performer, shouldn't be.

True, the position is idealistic, perhaps unrealistic, and many of your responses along the lines of "if he didn't, someone else would" and "better him because he's a fan and respects their wishes" reflect this. Chris is only guilty of believing strongly that the artist should profit from his work, and if he doesn't, and someone else does, it's inherently wrong. Forget about, for a second, the fact that Mike Bahr IS a huge fan, and DOES make efforts to respect the band (to a certain, and apparently debatable, degree), and IS honest and dependable and cares about his project--all these things are factors, of course, but at base, he is profitting from someone else's music, and in Chris' eyes, this is wrong.

It's a legitimate position. We don't all have to agree. By the nature of this mailing list, one person is free to say "You do the work of the devil," and the other is free to say, "No, God's on my side, here's the proof."

And everyone else is free to admire two monstrous egos at work.
