Hey, I don't know what the rest of you got for the digest number 3451, but I got another file download sign. So I downloaded it, and now I have a "winmail.dat" file which, when I open it, gives me only a few symbols, like squares. Can anyone explain this? Also, does anyone have a copy of this digest they could send me (that doesn't end up looking like gibberish)? Thanks all. Alex

    I have special announcement:

I have decided to venture into the bootlegging business myself. Now I know you're thinking, "but buster, we already have plenty of great resources for that! just go to any cassete rack in any truckstop!" but no, this is different! Fresh! New!

For a limited time I will be selling my homemade bootleg recordings of that famous trio - The Chipmunks! Yes, thats right, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore LIVE, recorded at various shoppping mall tours around the country performing all of your favorite Dream Theater hits Chipmunk style!

The recordings were made with a handheld Sony walkman that was placed on the stage, which I then jacked into my $39.95 no-name boombox from Kmart and duped over to cassette for supreme listening quality!

Each cassette is only $29.95 (hey, i have to pay for this boom box somehow!) and includes hits like, Under A Glass Acorn, Take the Pine (cones), Take Away My Fleas, and Alvin Lee. Yes folks, its time to let Alvin, Simon, and Theodore take you to new hieghts in progressive listening!!

Just visit this web site for ordering information and a *picture* of them after a recent show: http://www.dhpc.com/dtchips/

Although it has been *rumored* that Alvin was "smoked up" at that particular show while performing the hit single "Burning my Bowl", no one can really prove it, and besides; he sounds great on the bootleg!

    buster :P

(ps - for those of you without a sense of humor, this was a *joke* to lighten things up around here.if you were offended by this post or the link, go see a doctor about getting prozac)

His point was the other bands don't do it as well as DT. It is his opinion, after all. In my case, I don't want a band that sounds just ike another band. I like variety in my collection. I like to see an artist persue a unique direction, not follow the same path others have tread. That is why it is hard for me to listen to a band like Altura, because they sound too much like a DT ripoff to me.

When I was just a kid, I adopted a policy: don't put down if you can't do better. You should all live up to this. For example: YNM might not be your favorite on the disc, but if you've recorded something better, by all means, SEND IT! I'd love to hear it. DT have taken a step that many of you are finding hard to swallow. Do one thing for me. At the same time, put on you're least favorite DT song and you're fave local radio station at the same time and at the same volume. Which stays on? I've been subscribed to the YJ for a couple of months, and all the needless bitching is getting on my nerves. I've got a girlfriend, I don't need any more bitching! Lighten up people.

I also have to respond to the KevMo returning post.

Come on! get fuckin' real! If it was the money he was after, why would he quit DT for this Chromakey deal? I am still saddened that he is gone. AWAKE had a deep spiritual impact on me that FII hasn't had, YET.

DT are still the Einstiens in one ignorant fucking world.

Also, I dug the Eve cover. How about a collaboration (I play the 6 and 7 strings) effort.

    Have fun with life! AAH

Jason that was exactly my point, the problem is that these days DT are the 'yardstick' that other progressive bands are measured by and so it can be hard not to hear 'influeneces' when hearing new music.

For really rare stuff, I recommend The Laser's Edge at www.jersey.net/~lasercd. Ken Golden, the proprietor, began carrying prog metal last year and his response was nothing short of phenomenal, so he's pretty happy with us prog-metalheads. :) He's carried general prog for a while. Neasrly every prog or prog-metal band that isn't on a major label is represented in his catalog, including Superior, Symphony X, Divine Regale, Angra, Altura, etc. Prices are excellent; I currently have 6 disks on order with Ken.

For stuff that's on a major label, or for Magna Carta bands like Lemur Voice, I'd suggest CDNow.com. They also carry cool stuff like the "Hollow Years" single. (Which must be relatively rare, since Derek asked me where I got mine after the Jaxx/VA show.)
