Got home from work today, and to my delight saw a brown package in the
mailbox! Well, I sprinted up the steps, and indeed it was my copy of
Seven Wonders! With the Canadian postal strike and all over with, it's
nice to finally be able to get a copy of this!
I know this has been said a ton before, but anyone who doesn't have
Seven Wonders yet, you don't know what you're missing! Ryan probably
doesn't have any more of them left by now, but not only is it a
great concept and a great CD, but the turnaround on orders is great.
I'd definitely encourage everyone to order Spinning Years as well!
This is great news for anyone who doesn't want to shell out hundred to
buy bootlegs. *9* CD's worth of boots for $22! You can't beat that.
And there's no noticable loss of quality because of the compression.
A couple of paycheques from now, I'm going to be getting me a CDR and
copy all of these boots onto regular CD's that I can play in my CD
player. The money I'm saving from not having bought any of the
originals (except Subconscious, and I have TDOW on tape) will almost
pay for the CD writer in itself, and I had planed to get one anyway
for various other morally questionable uses. ;)

Mads, just live and let live. Please. If it's that offensive, email him

Speaking of thinking BEFORE posting....can we keep the bullshit threads
to a minimum? I mean, it doesn't take eighty people telling
whats-his-name that KevMo probably does NOT get on the DT IRC channel
very often. And we don't need to keep theorizing on what's going to
happen to James' voice if he smokes weed, and the other six thousand
bullshit tangents--smoking cigarettes is worse than pot, he might end up
like Geoff Tate, ad nauseum. I realize I'm just spitting into the wind
here but this is annoying to read six million people all saying the same

That station in CT would be WCCC(106.9), in Hartford. They were at the DT
gig at the Webster in Hartford. They will occasionally play DT at Night
from 9:00 onward. But they play a ton of garbage. Alot of the Jammers
helped out in Emailing them requesting DT's "Burning My Soul" and they
played it quite frequency for a while. I haven't heard them play You Not
Me yet, though.
The other station in CT which I get sometimes is WAAF(107.3) from Boston,
which can be occasionally picked up in Hartford. They have John Osterlind
as a DJ, and he really is a great DJ. He plays GREAT songs, and is really
a good DJ. Yes, I know that he is the GUY who said that they did the
survey and no one liked DT, but in fairness to him, he is an EMPLOYEE there
and is probably just doing what he is told. When he DJ'ed for WCCC in
Hartford, he played A TON of "Pull Me Under" and "Take the Time." Thats
how I first got into DT (My First time).

Well, here is your feed back. :-) I just listened to it and it
seemed good. I don't think that I like that much the "mix" of instruments,
but I don't know how you could change it (I'll listen to it again and send
more comprehensive comments later). Also, the patch that you chose to do
the guitar (that's a keybord, right?) were kinda strange. My next comments
will be accompanied by time references, so you know exactly to what I'm
refering.
Overall, VERY GOOD!
BTW, if all you people that play instruments did your songs like
Woot and Washburn, then I think that we could finalize the Ytsejam
tribute...
* some people would play the songs;
* some people (Scotchman, for instance) could do the artwork;
* some people could put the songs on CD (Mike Bahr, Ryan Whitaker,
me, if they agree) and distribute them.
The next step is only to get people to actually listen to it. :-)
The name for the project? "Ytse JAM"? :-) (I'm a newbie in this
list and I don't know if you already thought about these things -- you
probably did).
Of course it would be nice. I know that Big Swifty has a version
of "Space-Dye Vest" (he sent me in a trade) and it was interesting (don't
remember a lot of the details, but I'll listen to it again).
The "production" will be very heterogeneous, but I think that with
collective effort, everything can come out very good.

Just found out a NEW radio station here in Sao Paulo!!!!!!!! It's, how can I say, an "alternative", "not official" station, which plays some wicked stuff (just for you people to know, when I tunned it, it was having an interview with Andreas Kisser, from Sepultura --- I never thought that the pirate radios had bands supporting them, let alone huge, international bands such as Sepultura).
Unfortunately, since it's not official, its transmission was finished at 11h45m PM (DAMN, the only good radio here in the region! DAMN! DAMN!).
He was doing some jams and he played "Kaiowas" live, among others!!! He also told that one of his influences were Steve Howe, from Yes and then he played "Mood for a Day"! Then he also told that one of his biggest influences were Metallica and the DJ put "Metal Militia" (funny, it seemed *A LOT* heavier)!!! :-)))
I've never seen a radio play "Metal Militia" before and then they played "Devil's Dance", followed by a song by a band called Ozric Tentacles (or something like that, I don't know for sure). But it was very interesting (it was only instrumental, with some similarities to the middle of "Metropolis", heavy at the same time and with some good handling of pauses and many time signature shifts -- I liked it and I'll be looking forward to hear their material).
Unfortunately the fucking DJ didn't say the name of the song. :-((
Anyway, Andreas Kisser will be again on this station on 28th, with a Band called "Irmandade do Blues". It's intended to be a mix of heavy metal and blues. :-)
What a discovery!!!!!!!! I can't even express my satisfaction for their cool programming!
The next thing to do is, of course, ask for some Dream Theater and some Death Metal. :-)

With all the discussion about Prism on the ytsejam lately I have something to add:
What is the general length of time it takes to process orders?
For instance, I mailed Mike Bahr (1) copy of the UK LIE Single on December 22, 1997.
I put my request list inside the package and I expect to receive the items on that list in 4-6 weeks.
Is that a reasonable assumption? (not that I am bitching about wait times or anything, I'd just like to know what to expect)
Aside from that question, all have to say about Prism is "keep it up."
Mike spends plenty of time and overhead creating the discs and packaging and he doesn't do anything disrespectful to DT. I've seen some pretty shitty DT boots, like Live in Long Island from GEMA records. That item puts does no service to DT or the fanbase. It's garbage. Prism discs are different--they are quality work.

No pre-conceived motive, really. I just really love their version of the Elton medley. (it's my fave cover from the Uncovered show), and I figured it would be a great opener to a tape. Plus, in the event that the listener is remotely familiar with classic rock, a little song recognition right off the bat couldn't hurt things. As I said, this tape was made prior to FII, and on the day the album came out, the girl I made the tape for heard me cranking BMS and liked that one too. Whad'ya think... time for a Volume 2? :-)
Hey, in all this Chris vs. Mike banter, one thing has sadly gotten lost in all of it. Mike has just released a KICK ASS Queensryche boot (Visions Of Another Time) from the Rage For Order tour! (Got mine the other day... WooHoo!!) If you're into older QR, this boot is essential: killer track list, killer performance, killer quality. What else is there? Buy this NOW! (Unless, of course, you find the whole notion morally offensive... *BIG WINK*)
Also, I recently got my Amophis boot (The Isle Of Joy) some guy in Finland was advertising on the Jam. This, too, is a must-buy for Amorphis fans. GREAT crystal-clear quality for a non-soundboard show, and a great set list. Here's the guy's email address for anyone interested: bootcds@hotmail.com There's also a website devoted to it, but I lost the URL. The CD was also very reasonably priced at $15 or so. Awesome stuff!

I just thought I'd repost that particular paragraph, because I think it's the single most coherent comment I've seen on the topic. There's been a lot of opinions thrown around on the topic, but the fact of the matter is, just about *everyone* makes money off of a band's music once they sign a record deal. People complain about the $20 Mike charges for a boot CD that cost (say) $3 to make, what about the *legit* recordings? Those CD's are still $15-$20, and I'm willing to bet the record companies don't pay $3 apiece. Amidst this latest Bahr controversey I must add this little piece. I recently realized one of Marcel's boots and must say it is by far the best boot with Derek around. The band is so much better when you can hear him and trust he can be heard. The show is one of the European fix one's and I recommend it to all. For only 20 dollars (and hell I got in two weeks, kick ass) this is a must have. Just thought everyone should now. Take the time.
