Yes, you have. It is a special CD distributed to every member of
the International Fan Club (or other local headquarters). I don't know if

I don't believe that there is a connection. The burning heart is an old
Christian symbol called the Sacred Heart symbolizing Christ. I believe the
barbed wire around it means the problems with religion and the difficulty
in getting close to/knowing the mind of God. It also represents a modern
crown of thorns that was placed upon Jesus's head during the walk to
Calvery. I don't think Mike had anything to do with its conception. It
seems more like Kevin Moore or John P's although I have no real idea if
they did it or it was just the I&W artist's idea.
As to Mike's lyrics, I think that they are all pretty terrible. ACOS is
just OK and all of his FII stuff blows. I REALLY miss Kevin's lyrics
(although I don't miss his playing). Maybe when DT lets Derek write, we'll
get some new good lyrics. John P. is the only decent consistant writer in
DT at the moment. Myung is very, very good, but he just doesn't write
enough.

Their riffs are based on fairly simple melodies, but their rhythms are
unbelievably weird!Any drummer should check this band out.It definitely

Remember that the $149 you pay does not go to Sony, it goes to the retailer.
The retailer presumably buys large quantities of PSX machines for a much
lower price from Sony. The sources of my information are the more respected
video game console mags (Next Generation, Electronic Gaming Monthly), so I
feel pretty confident that they're not making this up. In either case,
hardware sales mean next to nothing for these companies - they're betting
the boat on their software.
It's like a cellphone - companies will give them away so that you'll pay for
their service. It behooves Sony to have as many PSX consoles out there as
possible - demand for PSX software rises proportionally.

It's a double cd. The first release is in Japanese cd only.

Smithsonian in conjunction with the Blue Guitars exhibit at the National
Museum of American History in Washington, DC. The performance will be

OK Matthew, enough is enough!
I know that you have probably cornered the market on DT Underoos, but that
doesn't mean you can charge whatever you want. At $100 each, how much
profit do you get? And with extra faces, the cost can exceed $200! I can go
to K-Mart and get a package of 10 blank Underoos for $15. That's only $1.50
each. With bulk purchases from a wholesale distributor, your cost will be
substancially less! And how much of the profits will you be giving to the
guys in DT? I know that some of the pictures may have been ok'ed by MP, but
I also know that several of the people are very unhappy with their position
on the underwear. Derek, for instance, believes that you have placed him in
an uncomplimentery position on purpose. (And you know where that is.)
I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly will not be purchasing
your overpriced, illegal, lethargic (and sometimes stained) goods!

He was the producer of the "Falling Into Infinity" album and many
people think of him (c'mon people) as a bad producer, while other people
think he is ok. He was "accused" of cutting parts of songs of this new

Well, Angela, Kevin Moore plays on the last Fates Warning's record, called "A Pleasant Shade of Gr[ae]y". We had many, many arguments here in the 'jam about people liking/disliking this album. I, for instance, think that the album isn't such a masterpiece, but is actually good music and the album is worth getting for that few minutes of "solo" by Kevin Moore, even though it isn't exactly a solo in the original sense of the word (but what we call solos today aren't exactly solos, so, let's not discuss terminology here).
Be warned that "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" is intended to be listened as a single piece, as if it were only one song. It lasts for 53 minutes approximately.

This isn't exactly a mailing list where we have to follow some strict guidelines such as the Linux Kernel Mailing List.

I've been a member of this list for, say, one year (I don't remember exactly) and I have never seen 100% pure Dream Theater content and I'm very happy to know that the list has a lot of off-topic messages, since they bring diversity to the subjects and this diversity may spawn some never-before-thought-of Dream Theater connections and some very comic posts. At least, even off-topic, the people of this list is intelligent enough to make some interesting comments about some bullshit, often with a bit of humor.
Of course, most metadiscussions are also off-topic. But again, some posts showing some reflections are more than welcome, because they may address some points under different light.
And another thing: if we were talking only about Dream Theater, the subjects would the exausted after, say, 1 month, unless we were talking about execution of the songs etc. But that's what tablatures, song books etc are for.
And here goes a hint for those who wish to keep only DT content: *do* subscribe to the Voices mailing list. It is a moderated list about Dream Theater, the sibling of the Ytsejam. The process of subscription is exactly the same for both lists, with the only difference being the addresses of the lists.

Allow me to interject my words of wisdom on this. If you want ELP beyond the best of CD, you can try the box set, the return of the manticour. if that's too expensive for your blood, try Brain Salad Surgery, Tarkus, Trilogy or ELP. I bought them all at once because I couldn't decide. The Welcom back my friends CD is a double. Works, Works 2 and Works live are albums that are secondary. Oh, another must-have is Pictures at an Exhibition this is a must-have as well. Avoid Love Beach unless you are sick like me. Another good live album is Live at the Royal Albert Hall, but I would hold off on that as well since the keyboard parts are not as well done as in the 70s, due to keith Emerson's surgery on his arm and the fact that they keyboard sounds are imho a bit wimpy and digital. Black Moon is OK, but get the 70s albums first. So, to sum up, ELP, Tarkus, trilogy, brain salad surgery, pictures at an exhibition and welcom back my friends are the ones to buy as soon as possible. Tarkus is on its own album, From the Beginning is on Trilogy, and Karnevil 9 is on Brain Salad surgery. Be warned, Karnevil 9 is a half hour long, ignor what you heard on the best of CD it is severely shortened. BSS has the best version and it kicks ass totally.

It depends on training resp. what one aims at achieving... developing improvisational skills is not of too high a priority e.g. w/ classically trained musicians except in a basso continuo group. It is highly important, however, e.g. w/ jazz players, also classically trained, Arabic, Persian, and Indian musicians. Most rock musicians probably occupy some intermediary position.
One also should keep in mind that improvising is not about automaticized technical show-offs like playing certain fingerings at the speed of light, but could be described as an ad hoc compository process rather. Which especially is true of collective improvisations -- which do not imply that everyone was soloing at the same time, or that the distinction between solo and accompaniment was abandoned, though indeed there is some very exciting stuff of this kind around. Check out Miles Davis' Bitches Brew or early Weather Report as the classical examples.

First, it's a matter of nuance to say that "10 months" is not a fact. I think anything over one or two months is ridiculous. So when I have been waiting 7 months for a cd, and have heard as many excuses, I feel the need to get vocal.
Mike should remember the old axiom that one unsatisfied customer tells ten, where a satisfied one may only tell one or two. I can not with good conscience recommend your product due to horrendous customer serivice. Say you don't care? It's an aberration? It's a "stray?" That makes it a-ok. Like someone said, I want to go to this post office where piles of Prism cds are stacked against the walls. Maybe Mike is really serviced at the PO by Newman...
Sorry to people who are sick of this subject, but as much as it is annoying (even to me), it is something that needs to be done until each customer is satisfied.
People make fun of Pat for continuing the "Pat 'n Al Saga," but he has principle on his side. So, it's only a few bucks, but it's a matter of right and wrong.
Send me my damn cd, Mike, and I will be silent. Al, send Pat his damn money/tapes or whatever, and I bet *he* will be silent. I am not accusing Mike of theft; it hasn't gotten that far, but Al...he may have crossed that line.
