I guess it's also illegal for me to borrow a CD from a friend and copy it
to see if I myself would buy the CD.
Copying movies from Blockbuster for private use is technically considered
illegal. However, don't expect any cops to be knocking on your door any
time soon.

I have "From Genesis to revelation" the original cover and it does not sound like Genesis at all. It's like an old pop album. Actually, Tresspass and Nursery Cryme are another must have alcbums for real Genesis fans.

as for genesis, Damon just mentioned their early catalogue, and included "From genesis to revelation" as something to possibly check out..... ummmm, if you want real genesis, don't go that far back, that was when schoolkids were writing essentially 2 minute pop songs....hardly sounds like anything in their later careers
start from trespass at the earliest, or just jump straight to "Selling england by the pound", one of the 5 best albums ever made (in my book) along with the joshua tree (U2), I&W, So (gabriel, peter), and Transcendence (Crimson Glory).....how's that for a non-offensive top 5?

Yeah, I've picked that disk up. I love it! Maybe it's because Kansas can do no wrong in my book...I don't know. The tunes are well written and the guy who plays violin...(what's his name again?) is great. I only wish that Livgren wrote all the songs...hmmm...and maybe if Morse was back in the band too...and..oh well, you get the point. Just got done downloading STM thank to Doctor Mosh.
I must say, this is a wonderful track! Great collection of sounds and full of mood.
I wish this was included on the FII CD.
On another note, I went to a local Media Play and they had no HY Single to be found in sight! Furthermore, the help desk guy that I asked to locate the CD online was a dick. Media Play no longer carries DT import CD's, if they are still on the shelf from long before, great, but they no longer will be ordering them due to lack of interest.
He then went on to point out his dislike of DT and I "politely" told him how stupid he was. He didn't know what to compare it to since he really didn't like DT and I made mention of RUSH. He then called RUSH a band that is WAY OUT THERE and at that point I stopped him because he was busy praising crap music on the radio. I should have guessed his convictions based on his manner of dress.
Anyway, I ramble but hey, frustrating assholes in big chain stores just suck.

Seriously, it's very similar in style to their older stuff. They never were amazingly progressive (Song for America is probably the most complex thing they've done, and it was "accessible" enough to make their greatest hits album), but they're a solid "prog-like album rock" band.

'The Lamb' might be a little difficult as an 'old Genesis' entry point. It's certainly good, but I'd start with 'Selling England...'. A poll a couple years ago on alt.music.progressive (I think it's rec.m.p now) decided that SEbtP was the best prog album ever, and "Firth of Fifth" (track 3) was the best prog song ever.
If you like Phil's voice better than Pete's, try Wind and Wuthering, as well.

I will? :) Well, if Mr. Jon "Skullfucker" Parmet says it's good, then I guess I'll have to spring for it, even though I'm not familiar with anything he's done (I know, flame away, but he's jazz, and if I haven't made my feelings on the genre clear by now, then ... well... I HATE IT). :)
I have, however, been exposed to Holdsworth. Anyone else out there feel that listening to one of his albums is a physically draining experience?
Also - anyone out there have a copy of the first GFTPM compilation, when he plays "Play that Funky Music" with Jeff Watson from Night Ranger (with Randy Coven on bass)? Dear GOD. That was frightening. I can almost guarantee that, even with point-of-reference, you wouldn't be able to follow those fingers....
