Hello! King Crimson is one of the best bands to me. If you like
THRAK, then you'll love Red, because THRAK has many compositions
that are simply counterparts of songs in Red. BTW Red is my favorite
KC album. Jon Wetton sings and plays bass there. The
Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair trilogy is impressive. I
highly recommend it. You can generally go with confidence with old
and new stuff. THRAKATTACK is fine, but is too draining for me, and
I haven't been able to listen to it in one go. It's really long and
full of improvisations! I recommend Red, Starless and Bible Black,
In the Court of the Crimson King, Islands, Lizard (Jon Anderson
sings a bit there) and the trilogy mentioned before. The most
important thing about KC is the unending list of skilled musicians.
Go for it!

Stratovarius is a really cool band, but their albums sound very similar to
each other. I have "4th dimension", "episode", and "visions" and there's
hardly any variety between these albums.
Also, anyone notice how they usually start a song off with the same drum
beat? They remind me of the Gipsy Kings in that respect.

My favourite guitar solos are those that make singers that annoy me
keep silent for a while. A good example would be Eddie Van Halen's
solo in Jacko's "Beat It". Any Winger or Slaughter solo will do as
well. :)

Magna Carta feel? ROTFL! Boy, you need to listen to some more Noise
Records' bands. Old Helloween and Scanner, old and current Gamma Ray,
anyone? Besides, they have a seven record deal with Noise, so they
will not sign with Magna Carta. Compared to Noise, Magna Carta promotes
their bands downright badly. When was the last time you heard/read a
Magna Carta band touring the world?

5. Steve Vai - "All About Eve"
6. Megadeth - "The Killing Road"
7. Alex Lifeson - "Limelight"
8. Testament - "Trail of Tears"
9. Dimebag Darrel - "10's"
10. Frederick Thordenal (Meshuggah) - "Acrid Placidity" - any one who
hasn't checked these guys out yet and enjoys really intense music -
you owe yourself a listen to "Destroy Erase Improve". The musicianship is
excellent, and the songs are intelligent.

Re: All unreleased DT, I don't have the $$$ right now to buy every
import/boot/single I can get my hands on . . . what would ye fellow 'jamrz
recommend as "essential" DT rarities, and the easiest ones to find?? I'm
not as interested in the live stuff as in the studio work/demos, w/the
exception of WDAJU.

I don't think the petition thing should be overused. The first time there was the threat of never having a good studio ACOS, the second time there was the lazy record company never giving them the green light, but this time I just think that if they really want to wait to put Met2 on the next album then it should be the band's decision, not ours. What's next a petition to get rid of the Desmond Child chorus in YNM? We should show a little restraint. Besides there is always the possibility of the double album :)
To further a recent popular thread, here's my contribution. FAVE SOLOS 1. "Under A Glass Moon", Petrucci...for obvious reasons, it's such a full solo. I hear so many styles in there, but JP pulls it all together. 2. "Helpless", Hammett...even though this is a cover song, the original didn't have a solo in it. This is the song that made me pick up the guitar. Sends chills down my spine every time. 3. "Take The Time", Kevin Moore...KM rocked in a big way (not that DS doesn't), and this was the first song that showed me how cool keyboards can be. 4. "Practice What You Preach", Alex Skolnick...it's a shame this guy hasn't been doing much recently, but he is a very creative and entertaining guitarist. I bought "Handful Of Rain" just because I needed my Skolnick fix, but I still think PWYP is his best ever. 5. "The Ides Of March", Iron Maiden...I'm not sure if Murray or Smith played the solo, the one is just plain killer. 6. "Return To Serenity", Alex Skolnick...Skolnick got show off his more emotional side with this one. Probably as good as PWYP, but they are so different that I can't really compare them. The radio edit had all the best parts cut out! Damned record companies. 7. "Aqualung", Martin Barre...When Barre was in the studio recording this solo, Jimmy Page walked by the window and waved at him. It's a good thing that he didn't stop playing, because that was the take that became his masterpiece.
Did anybody find out yet what the 5th track on the Jap HY single is yet? If it is "Cover My Eyes" I might have to get that one and sell the HY I have now. Sucks how the Japanese always gets the good bonus tracks.
