Dont you think you are being a little harsh? I guess that is expected
from someone from Glen Burnie :P I guess Shadow Gallery is one of those
bands that you either love them or hate them. I personally think they are
a great band and have no problems mentioning Shadow Gallery and DT together.
It seems like you are judging the band on one song (one I happen to like).
I guess I dont need lyrics that I have to analyze for weeks to figure out
what they mean. If it sounds good, that is what matters to me.

I never said that I didn't like Ronnie James Dio's voice, but
I just think that the singer sounds like him in some of the songs,
and that to me, it takes away from the songs on TDWoT. I personally
like his "softer" voice. The one song (I don't know the names
off-hand becuase I have the tape) at the part that starts something
like "looking out on the blue sky......etc.....I can see what I
left behii-i--i-i-nd.....etc....and I all know is my paradise
ha-aa-a-as be--e--e-e-gu--u-u-u-u-nnnnn.........."
I think it would be much more kick-ass that way, but then again
that's just me.........
BTW, thanks for calling me a vocalist, it legitimizes what I
do...... :P

Somebody asked how to get mp3's on to cd-r. Use the latest version of winamp and somewhere under the properties is an option to output the mp3 files as wavs to the hard disk. You can then use something like Easy cd pro to write the wavs to your cd-r

Someone recently mentioned the fact that DT is indeed in Japan, and were looking for reviews. Not only that but seeing as how a trip to Japan usually brings us some sort of video of a full concert, anything floating around about that?
Also, in an unrelated DT topic, did anyone record the recent radio broadcast of the Yes concert from their recent tour? If so, I'd like to trade for it. If you can slap it on a Mini-disc for me somehow, that'd be ideal. Anyway, I've got Yes related items to trade, or if you are a Fates Warning fan, I have a CD of APSOG, only played like 4 times that I will outright give you. Sorry to post this here, not having any luck on the NG, besides I know there are Yes fans around...

I discovered that one of the security guards here at work is into DT. He loaned me a video entitled "Live at Lamours (L'amours?) in NY, 1993" Did anyone attend this show? The audio quality seems to be pretty good (this guy said A-, but I have no idea how the rankings are determined).
Anyways the cool thing for me is, I finally got to hear AFiL live!!!

I would have to go for Dennis Chambers(on his instructional video)and Simon Phillips(same as above.)They absolutely blow me away. I personally donīt care for Portnoyīs drum solos.He seems to prefer bashing and smashing rather than using some dynamics.Agreed, he uses some dynamics but they usually donīt "fit" if you get my point.Although in Live in Tokyo video,when he goes to that mellow snare drum part after the double bass part...that rocks.But mostly, heīs solos only sound good because he has a such a big kit rather than incredible technique.

Guitarists aren't supposed to be mature! Look at the guitar, it's badassed! How can you be mature with a pointy guitar and 6 4x12 cabs? :) You're SUPPOSED to jump all over the place and cause a ruckus :)

Spoken like a true drummer :) Since guitarists usually write most of the music, the drummer gets little or no credit for writing the song, and therefore gets less royalties on the album than the guitarist. So yes, guitarists make drummers money like Bill Gates gives to the poor :) Guitarist's money is guitarist's money :)

i am not a drummer myself, but my best friend is a drummer going to school at loyola university in new orleans. he practices with jason marsalis and others. i know much about drums and drum solo's, and i love jazz. my favorite drum solo would have to be the solo on art blakey's album: free for all- on the title track. it is the most intense solo i have heard. another favorite of mine would be dave weckl's "hard wired" solo. hope i could help!

At first I want to react on the magna carta thread lately, we are on the Magna Carta label and it is true that their support is way too little, but on the other hand it is a very good label because all their bands are really bands they are in to, and with a lot of recordcompany's it just isn't true, they only want to earn some money, well, for earning money we just play the wrong kind of music, I really think that progressive music isn't commercial at all, I mean, how may prog bands are really making big money with their music ??? Maybe Rush and Dream Theater and some older generation bands but for the rest noone can live from playing prog music.
I also want to react on the lately upcoming "Favorite guitarsolo's" well, here are some of mine:

As for lemur Voice, the reason we are not playing that much right now is that we are preparing the songs for the next album, we will go into the studio soon and record the next album, the style will be a lot different, it will be more experimental, I also use 7-string guitar now and a lot of drop-D tuned passages. We also have the chapman sticks on 4 songs, so that will be cool also.
However, we do hae some live options, anyone can view them on one of our pages.
