I hope this is not true. I doubt it is. Nuno would not fit with QR at all
(IMHO). Look at Skizophrenic, that is the direction NUNO is going. I dont
    want QR going that way...

Thanks to Craig for posting the proper URL for the FII demos... Does anyone know a web address that has the .MP3 version of the NEW MILLENIUM DEMO? The site Craig posted has:

Lines in the Sand (demo) Burning My Soul (demo) Hollow Years (demo) Just Let Me Breath (demo) Cover My Eyes (demo)

These are the only tracks in the "FII demos" section... So if anyone knows a site where I can d/l the .mp3's to New Millenium or any of the other FII album demo tracks, PLEASE PLEASE email it to me at: axe@ct1.nai.net

Also I've heard some discussion about "uncooking" .mp3's that are damaged in the d/l transfer... Is it easy to tell which .mp3's require uncooking???? Or would it be a very subtle thing???? I downloaded an "uncooker" , but the page said that if you use Internet Explorer then you *never* have this problem downloading .mp3's... only with netscape.....???

    Thanks..

Well, I have pretty much written Queensryche off, I respect them a lot... and what they have contributed in their past-lives. But Metallica is just so fun to pick on because there is always people out there saying, "They haven't sold out... they just changed diapers!!"

Well, seeing as I'm over $121,877 in debt (most of which I was scammed out of by one of those MLM companies over the last 5 years) and have already sold all my old Transformers and G.I. Joe's, not to mention that there have been 11 deaths in the family, 3 of my computers died, my cat got electrocuted, I'm 4 months overdue on rent, my girlfriend is pregnant, and I have to buy a new truck, I'm letting go of a few items!

I'm selling my original "Subconscious" (#218) as well. Minimum bid is $195.41 (since his #426 is 195.41% higher than mine), and I'll sell it to the highest bidder after two weeks, OR when the first bid of $1000 or more is made. If I sell it for over $1000, I'll even cover the shipping costs!

Oh, I also have one Lie single remaining, which I'm going to sell as I've saved the two non-album/LATM tracks on my HD and will put them on a CD-R. I'll take the best offer over $500.

E-mail me privately if you're interested!

I caught this guy a couple of times back in the 70's in some small halls when he had Tommy Aldridge with him - just great blue/rock playing. I loved him! (for a while)

Unfortunatley his recording career then took a real downturn and he produced some really poor records. However he seems to be back on the road - I'm sure I've seen posters for his gigs around London during the last few years. Haven't been curious enough to check him out though.

Yep. It was going to be another string piece (probably short, like the first and last tracks) and something or other (I'm not sure exactly what) fell through.

Tragic. I don't know if this piece exists in any recorded form out there, but it'd be nice to have. It's a true shame that the band broke up.

I think you are right with this point. Because every band that comes out these days, if people classify it prog-metal, is trying to sound like Images and Words era-DT (WDADU was a great album, but I would consider it more prog-rock than prog-metal). So in years to come people will look to I&W to summarise the prog-metal movement (assuming the prog-metal is coming to a close, which looks possible when you consider the lack of good feeling that many have for Magna Carta--probably the biggest prog-metal pusher--and the moving away from prog or the folding of many of the big names--such as Thought Industry, Anacrusis, Cynic, and Atheist). I&W represents the strengths as well as many of the warts of what has been for some bands a crossover effort (sort of like the heavy version of neo-prog).

The only way I can see to make I&W more of a perfect sign of the times would be to have ACOS (the fast version) on it.

While I agree that Iced Earth is "kick-ass," I would be hesitant to describe them as "prog metal." I think Power Metal would be a much more accurate description. If you buy this cd expecting to hear DT or Angra or any other prog metallic material, you will be disappointed. Emphasis on the metal. Good stuff, but not proggish.

i read the news about degarmo reading with a heavy heart. he really was the musical and lyrical force behind that band. not to say that the other 4 guys can't hold their own, but chris degarmo really WAS queensryche, in my opinion, anyway. i can't possibly imagine what they will sound like, regardless of who fills in for him.

to compare this to kevin leaving doesn't do it much justice. sure, kevin was a huge force in the early dt, but petrucci especially also had as big an influence on the band's sound. even if nuno were to be the new guy (and he's not bad with his guitar), i'm still not looking forward to this.

the end of an era? most likely so. too bad.

Didn't we cover this a while back? Niacin is the organ trio that Sheehan's got doing with John Novello and Dennise Chambers. Good stuff...

An interesting thesis. But equating "Wind and Wuthering" with "Signals?" I think "Wind and Wuthering" is more like "A Farewell to Kings" or something. Maybe "...And Then There Were Three."

    >From: "Paul Gregory Humm" <humm@levy.com> > >The point I was trying to make (in a round-about way) is that, IN MY >OPINION, Images & Words will one day be looked back on as (and to >some extent is already considered to be) THE defining album of the >prog-metal genre. It's a great album, far and away their best. I'd probably slot it in my top 25 or 30 records (I'm a pathological Rush fan, but once you get beyond that, it's an awesome piece of work). I don't know that I'd call it the definitive Prog Metal album, period -- but I think they're defining the state of the art at this point, because, along with the quality of their music, their influence is pervasive. Queensryche was in that position after "Mindcrime," but they really extracted a great deal of aggression from their music after that record (I think "Empire" is a great album, I just don't think of it as being particularly "metallic"). Fates Warning's been around longer, but it's pretty safe, at this point, to say that Dream Theater's a higher profile band. For what it's worth, I think a great deal of what Magna Carta's brought us is modeled on that record and "Awake." For that style of music in that period of time, though, the argument you offer is at least a possibility. Defining the genre in total, though, I think might be a little more problematic an assertion.

Some would argue that Angra is not really prog, but power-metal with progressive tendencies... but then, we are being nit-picky with labels, aren't we? Spock's Beard is the new way of alternative RAHH!
