It is a sad day when Chris DeGarmo leaves Queensryke, but Nuno would be a
great replacement. I am still waiting for the day that Quessnryke records
another CD like Operation Mindcrime. DT is still my favorite group but
anyone who has never listened to O:M has missed a great CD.

And who's this band "Dream Theater" a couple people have been talking

I considered that, but moved to "Wind and Wuthering" because, though Hackett
was still in the band, they used none of the stuff he wrote. It really was
the beginning of the change. Just not nearly as popular as "...And Then
There Were Three."
Similarly, I wasn't sure where I'd put the ELP changeover. It was beginning
with the Works albums, but "Love Beach" is a whole lot more obvious.
As far as Rush goes, I didn't find any particular change in direction with
"A Farewell to Kings," which I still find in the same vein as "2112."
"Signals," however, was a complete turnaround, even more than with
"Permanent Waves."
We will have yet to see if "Hear in the Now Frontier" will belong in the
list. It could be the last album QR does, instead.

And talking about Iron Maiden, what are they doing nowadays? Any

They are supposedly almost done with the new album. Blaze is still on vocals. There is a big tour planned for the summer, a return to the old days with the huge stage sets.

Amen, brother. I don't know whether or not Chris triggered the demise of the greatness of the Ryche, but I know he was the driving force behind their greatest work, Promised Land, so I must say that I was still a bit saddened by his departure.

Its a real simple... when you want to gripe about the direction of the band without actually taking shots at a band that you love you make up something called a "scapegoat". That little barnyard animal takes all the harsh criticisms while the band's image stays squeeky clean.
A typical example you'll see here:
"Man, I hate You Not Me... I'm sure it was an awesome song before Shirley fucked it up because they wouldn't write a song like that, They're DT after all!!"
hmm... I've heard the demo version... nothing to write home about guys, Sure it was a little more long winded but I thought it lacked energy... thats just my opinion.. (notice I didnt try to blame anyone else for ME not liking something!)

"The Chorus for YNM is way too poppy and commercial, it must have been Desmond Child because he used to write songs for Bon Jovi!"
once again... its totally inconceivable to that person that maybe DT thought it was a good chorus... who knows? I don't. (notice how you can admit you don't know everything. You don't always have to be a presumptious ass!) These same people will gripe that they don't like Innocence Faded because of the cheese chorus and they may dislike Another Day for its "commercialness", but they apperently assume through some conspiracy no doubt that the Desmond Child songwriting credits were lost in the first instance and that maybe Shirley dropped in during the Images and Words recording and changed an otherwise "prog certified" Another Day into what it is today.
go figure...? but before we hang Shirley at the stake listen closely to the xmas cd... and here's a few quotes from the Metal Edge article talking about Shirley. --
JL: (about working with Shirley) "Its been the best.... I'd say that Kevin's been the first producer that's acted like a producer for this band"
JM: "He was the one person that was able to work with the band musically and on a personal level... Kevin really adds to the music, he's changed alot of parts around. It was a really positive experience working with him. I think its one of our best albums to date."

There's more, and of course reading the whole article gives you the context, but in general they were real pleased with Shirley. Or they could have just been lying....
Personally I'll go on record as saying that FII is the best sounding Dream theater album ever, and that I love the production. The songs have PERSONALITY... they have character, something that I've been hoping would happen to prog. I mean I cheered aloud when I first heard that they were gonna record each song individuality... I thought "no duh? How else would you wanna do it?" I know I'm gonna get into trouble for this but i wished that Kevin Shirley would have produced APSOG... love the songwriting... but it sounds as lively as a morgue.

Actually, Kevin co-executive produced Good Will Hunting with Scott Mosier (Willam, or "Snowball," the idiot manchild from Clerks).
As for Ryche. I'm sad to see Degarmo gone, but I'm happy that he'll be doing what he wants to do. I don't know about Nuno, I liked his work with Extreme (haven't heard Schizophonic yet), but a Wilton/Bettencourt team doesn't sound right to me. It's kind of like when Zakk Wylde was rumored to be in Guns N Roses: great guitarist, but not the right "fit." My ideal replacement would be Trevor Rabin. He's much better than scoring for bad flicks like The Glimmer Man.
