Actually, the one with portnoy saying ""you have a fucking
problem with that?" is not a theme, but a wav someone recorded from the Dream
theater international fan club cd (DTiFC) which has lots of dialogue between the
bandmembers and lots of neat stufff to get samples from.
The "balls and chunk is where its at" is actually portnoy too, but that is taken
from the Live in Tokyo video (93')

Yeah, Itchy, I know that (I checked the original address). I wanna know
how long the redirect will be in effect. :) I have several people I need
to get to change their links, but some of them are slow about updates, and

for good metal tones and only moderate expense, i would
recommend the marshall Valvestate amps. they use a tube preamp
and a solid state power amp, so they cost less than all tube
amps, and they sound good at low volumes, unlike a tube amp
which warms up when cranked. the valvestate will do good
crunchy metal tones, but not really good warm blues SRV tones.

if you want something all tube, you might look at the newer
marshall JCM 2000 amps, or the boogie DC series or Dual
Rectifier series - then you're talking $700-1200. you said
combo amp so i'm leaving out rack gear.

Hey, guys! Long time no see (literally ;) I've just started a new job, so I haven't had much of a chance to read 'jams. But I just had to share. I was browsing the Mars Music flyer they send out to their customers, and on the "practice with the pros" page (guitar lessons on video), the first person you see is John Petrucci! It's advertised as a "2-HR epic on the art of the modern rock guitar." Other ppl featured on this page are B.B. King, Percy Jones, Albert Lee (country), and Jim Hall (jazz). Anyway, I thought it was really neat. Now back to your regularly scheduled Ytsejam. :)

I have a Marshall Valvestate 65 Watt combo, and the tone is good, but there's just not enough gain on the overdrive. Even when the gain knob's maxxed out, the notes die away way too quickly. I opt for the distortion on my Digitech RP-6, using maxxed compression, and go through the clean channel of the Marshall. Having said that, it could be my pickups with the low gain. I play an Ibanez RG507 with the standard Ibanez V7 at the neck, S1 in the centre, and V8 at the bridge, so if you're playing through Evolutions or something, then the gain's higher. But I'm no expert on pickups, so maybe Mr. Ptacek could shed some light in that area.

interesting. i played one of the 100w heads a while back and it sounded great, lots of gain.

i do use hot pickups - i like the Bill lawrence XL-500 and the Duncan Full Shred. you might consider replacing the stock bridge HB in your Ibanez. i've got reviews of some of the pickups i like on my home page, but i don't know much about DiMarzios.

Yes, as Kez mentioned this bootleg is very interesting, for some of the different versions of some songs. It has the song everybody wants to hear, "Where Are You Now?", which was cut from FII and an instrumental version of "Raise the Knife" -- not the short version, but a 11min version, which, BTW, has much, ahem, let me repeat that, MUCH better sound than the RtK present on the boot "Fix for 96".

Definitely, a recommended boot, if only for these two songs. It also has some acoustic songs with some dialogues which were cut on Acoustic Dreams and other cool stuff (the three songs from James LaBrie's Audition Demo). Well, a cool boot.

BTW, here is a freakin' shameless plug: if you wanna check its setlist, just go to <http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/setlists/>.

If you can make CD-R copies of boots, please let me know and we can certainly trade some boots (well, I might actually trade boots in CD-R for some albums in which I'm currently interested -- so, if you have some discs of which you want to get rid, and would like to get some cool DT bootlegs, drop me a note and we can certainly arrange a trade; of course, your discs have to be in good shape, because I'll be sending you brand new, just burned CD-Rs).

Hi, I know some of you guys may dislike fender , but right now im using a Fender Rock Pro 1000 combo amp, its 100w, and the preamp is tube i believe, it has 2 different gains ( with a level knob for each ) and other stuff, the tone is very warm, specially with the "vintage" gain setting. And with the other gain (dist?) you get a very crunchy yet warm yet screaming dist. It also has reverb w/ a level knob too, and a knob that controls "effects mix" which i dont know exactly how that works yet :) oh and of course lo/mid/high knobs for each the clean and the gain channels... I highly recomend it.. got it new for about $450

    -KICKASS YTSEJAMMERS-

Okay, I said I'd write 2day, so I won't wait anymore, even though (I think it's 4th of July) is keeping the jam really thin. We'll just have to make everyone read the backlog...

First, when I joined the DTIFC, it took me from October 'till like March to get anything. So you're not alone.

And to Kyrre, I'd KILL for both videos. But It'll never happen. Maybe next video...

And now I'll say that I was WRONG about Journey's Greatest Hits Live... I saw it again, and not even Only The Young or Ask The Lonely are on it, let alone anything from ROR. Sorry if I mislead anyone!

    ----------------------------

    -BACK TO OFFICIAL BUSINESS...

To Chris "Topher" Files, I really like some of the things from Stratosfear and Tangram, which you mentioned. I've thought about getting the Dream Sequence, but I'm not sure if I want 3 CDs. But if I heard it I wouldn't say that!! Anyway, if you haven't yet, you've GOT to hear "Poland: The Warsaw Concert". Absolutely great... and the last part of track 2? It's frigging SWEEEET! I'm sure THAT will be an Aurealis cover song. And what other, newer stuff are you familiar with? Have you heard how shopckingly similar "Stratosfear 1995" is to the original? All the old one's missing is the bass drum and the guitar!

And I also need to say that "Optical Race", it's cool, especially "Marakesh" and "Sun Gate"(which points the direction they take for Melrose), but the title track? I think it's pretty weak, especially by TD standards. It's one of the most New Age stereotypical things they've ever done. And I like their stuff with a darker sound a little more. If you dig Optical Race, definetely hear Private Music (even though I may never get it- I have the albums) and Rockoon. It's more rocking than Optical Race, and it has an atmosfear, especially tracks 1&3, as I keep saying... very inspiring.

That's what I love most about Tangerine Dream; it's just so inspiring. After listening once, you find yourself listening again and again, and it runs through your mind, as Logos Live is right now. And then you become more & more engulfed, and you never, ever want out.

    ------

See 'ya later! This is for all DREAMERS everywhere: NEVER STOP "DREAMING"..., because your Dreams will never die.

Hoping you actually take me seriously,
