Thought I'd mention I might be slow on updates over the next
few days. My ISP has been under attack by so called "nukers"
for the last two weeks ! The first week was ok, but the last
week has been fucking unbearable... They're attacking all of
the users through the routers or something.

I can only browse websites for 1-2 minutes before I start to
get timeouts all over the place ! So much for checking sites
for information. I can't even get on IRC anymore these days.
Same thing for AOL's AIM and ICQ... Today it took me over an
hour to get all my email... Things kept getting stuck, after
which I got every email all over again (and I get a *lot* of
      mail).

So if it seems like I'm being a slacker, you know what's up.

In the meantime, check out Elektra's DT page... Someone just
told me it says the 2CD *and* home video will be released in
October ! Can't go there myself, for reasons stated above...

Hmmm, I wonder how long it's going to take me to succesfully
      email this note...

If my memory serves me right, when i saw DT live (Fix show in
Germany), JP played the LITS part in question with 2-hand tapping w/
Myung. I remember this because i though it looked cool in a
choreographed kind of way. I take it he changed it? Or maybe I'm
    hallucinating....

And those who have the FII tab book... are the keyboard solos
transcribed? If they are I might consider buying it.

    > questions. I was just wondering why I get no answer most times I
    have a
    > question. I got one this time, but why did nobody post before that the
    > Tab-book is available.

Basically those who could answer you're question either didnt feel
like answering, or maybe skipped your post. A lot of ppl on this list
    just skim thru the jams.

And then, just maybe, it could be that nobody knows. Your not gonna
find the answer to every question here, thats just life.

    Yup. This opinion is third-ed.

You get a lot of bad transfers, for some reason. Well, the reason is
obvious...they don't sell as well as popular recordings, so they don't
spend as much time with the sonics as they might. The rule of thumb is a
good one, but, in addition to the two mentioned above, you can mention the
LA Philharmonic, the Cleveland Symphony (under Szell, in particular), and
the Boston Symphony. You can make a good case for a few of the other
larger symphonies -- San Francisco and Houston, in particular, have made a
pretty credible case for being a part of that first tier. Though with a
lot of more modernist pieces, you may want to simply find what group
recorded the piece first...there's generally a lot of involvement with the
public premere of a piece, and it isn't always with one of the big 6 or 8
    groups.

on july 6, 1553, queen mary ascended to the british throne, beginning a six
    year reign.

the relevance, if memory serves me correct, this would be THE mary, queen of
scots that forms the basis for the majesty logo found on such items as every
official (and some unofficial) dt recordings we own, and i believe mr. porntoy
himself wears such a logo upon one of his arms.

proof that that huge fucking legal dictionary taking space in my bookshelf is
    of some value.

You are correct-- I screwed up. I didn't have my guitar with me until I
transcribed the chords later on so I guess I just wasn't visualizing the
    neck well enough!

A couple of months ago, I decided to learn the whole tune. See if you
    can recognize this part:

    E -----------------------------------10--------------------------------
    B ----------10--------------------9---------9-----6-------7--------7---
    G -------7---------7-----5-----7---------7-----5----------5--------5---
    D -0--7---------6-----5-----6------------------------------------------
    A ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    E ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Make sure to slide out of those last two diads and then do an air-drum
    fill!

    Message-ID: <35A140A2.6DB3@ANTISPAMgoodnet.com>

If you ask me what the best DT boots are, they are few and far between.
Many of my own don't qualify because IMHO a top-tier boot must come from
the soundboard, at least predominantly. Here's my (brief) listing of the
DT boots no DT fan should be without (in no order):

     1. Lost In the Sky/Milan '93 version - soundboard, Images tour
     2. Mind Control - soundboard, Awake tour (PPV broadcast)
     3. A Kick Into a Dream - soundboard, Awake tour (FM)
     4. Stream of Consciousness - soundboard, FII tour (webcast)
     5. Acoustic Dreams - (unplugged in Europe, from master tape)
     6. When Dream and Today Unite - various soundboard + 2 audience
     7. Precious Things - various soundboard + 1 audience
     8. Spinning Years 2 - MP3 comp of some of the best sb boots
     9. Perfect Dreams - two Images sb shows, very clear, but boring.
X - hon. mention - Uncovered, but a lot of this is available legit.
X - hon. mention - Lords of Sound (FM, slightly less clear than LITS)

If I were to then list the best audience boots of all time, which would
arguably make up the second-tier of great DT boots (in no order), they
    would be...

     1. The Dance of Eternity (NY '93 with ACOS)
     2. Static Progress - FII tour. Clear is clear.
     3. Carpe Diem (Marcel Berkhout version) - ACOS tour.
     4. Caught in Amsterdam '97 - FF96 tour.
     5. The Darkest of Winters - HFTH tour.
     6. A Kind of Homecoming - FII tour.

Don't pass up these just because they're audience. Audience DAT
recordings can be QUITE listenable on a good stereo. It's not the same
as a direct board feed, but it's usually as good as it gets.

There's also "another" second tier: the demos/outtakes/oddities discs.
These are neither better nor worse than the audience shows. Content is
the main attraction. Again, in no order:

     1. Subconscious Gold
     2. Antiquities
     3. Scenes from a Memory
     4. Mosaic
     5. Guitar Talkin'
     6. Falling into Obscurity
     7. Seven Wonders - MP3 disc full of this stuff
     8. Instru Mental 2
     9. Instru Mental
    10. Majesty 1986: the Official Demo

And there you have it. Discuss. I contend that virtually every other DT
boot is skippable. Including such soundboard shows as Tap the Rockies,
which is not only incomplete but unnecessary since Mind Control and
    AKIAD are readily available.

According to Thrak75@aol.com: > > on july 6, 1553, queen mary ascended to the british throne, beginning a six > year reign.

OK so far - that's Mary I, catholic, also called Bloody Mary since she had several protestant bishops burned at the stake.

    > the relevance, if memory serves me correct, this would be THE mary, queen of > scots that forms the basis for the majesty logo found on such items as every

no, mary Queen of Scots was a different person. she was Scottish royalty, but the english and scottish royal families were loosely related, so Mary QoS was a cousin to Mary I.

Mary QoS was held under house arrest for many years by one Tudor monarch [Elizabeth I?] because that monarch feared that rivals would use Mary QoS as a vehicle to take the throne of England. the whole catholic [Mary] v. protestant [Henry VIII, Elizabeth] thing was important also as each religion fought for dominance. Mary QoS may have been executed later.

after Elizabeth died without heir, King James VI of Scotland was asked to assume the throne of England as James I, so the monarchy of both countries became united.

gratuitous DT content - Shakespeare wrote during Elizabeth I and James I reigns - ooh that this too too solid flesh......

    Hi there folks,

It's been a while that I posted something to the jam, actually, Lemur = Voice still exists !!! I got a lot of questions lately about our band, = people really thought that we weren't out there anymore, but it really = isn't the case, we are here, we wrote all the songs for the upcoming new = CD, actually, we have a little problem, that's why it takes a bit = longer. We are awaiting some answers from Magna Carta, we asked them = some questions, for example sales from the Insights album, we never got = them, we also don't get any response back from them, so it seems to us = that they aren't interested anymore, we are now searching for a GOOD = recordcompany, so if there are some bands out there who want a = recorddeal, please think twince about Magna Carta. So if there are some = jammers left who really liked our first album and want to support us = with this you can be a big help, just send E-mails to recordcompanies = about us, we are definately trying to hold our name in big shape. We = just had a gig with Yngwie Malmsteen and we have to do a gig together = with Bruce Dickinson soon, so that will be cool anyway. We are still = playing and the stuff is just way better than the Insights stuff, less = symphonic, much heavier (very fat riffwork), influenced by bands like = Meshuggah and Pantera sometimes but also a lot of melodic approaches = like Pink Floyd, so the music has changed a lot. I think it has grown = in a very unique way, we are no more a Dream Theater kind of band, we = really sound different nowadays, more agressive than DT will ever be ..

We will record a new demotape soon, it won't be for sale but only for = the recordcompany's, I really hope there will be one interested.

Anyway, just look at our page for the latest information:

    http://www.cobweb.nl/mcoenen/

    And please sign the guestbook.

I also recorded my solodemo a while ago, I did sell a lot of them by = now, if there are some people interested (guitarists ????) please mail = me and order one. for info see:

    http://www.cobweb.nl/mcoenen/solodemo.htm

Well, I hope you don't think we don't exist anymore, but we will bring = out a second CD, if there isn't a recordcompany there who likes us then = we will do it ourselves, so please be patient a little bit longer.

In a message dated 04/07/98 22:18:26 GMT, you write:

    >>actually, neither. I play it the way its tabbed in the FII guitar tab book:

    >> I know its just about the same, but he is using the 7 string. >> BTW, how do you tune your 2nd string to an "h"? Thats >> gotta sound pretty cool ;-) >>

    >Uh.. ok i may be wrong here but, since when did the FII >transcription/tab book come out? and since when does jP use the 7 string >for lins in the sand??

I've got the FII tab book and aparently all of the album version of LITS is on a 7-string which explains the growl of that song. Oh and by the way tuning your 2nd string to "h" does sound cool as you already know since you already have your 2nd string tuned to "h". "h" is the german name for the note B natural and B is Bb, don't ask me why. But because of this JS Bach was able to spell his last name in notes in one of compositions, clever eh!

On a different note, in the DT FAQ I notice there is still no mention between the links between Just Let Me Breathe and TTT and WFS/LTL. The Just close your mind etc (opposite to TTT) and the musical reference throughout and use as the last phrase of the JLMB which although note the same notes is very similar to the main theme of WFS. In WFS the pedal note is B where as in JLMB it is E (well in the upper guitar part it is).
