Yes, Pink Floyd (and other bands such as U2, etc) are looking to hold a New Years eve concert.. actually a series of shows that last several days.. for either NYE 1999 or 2000 (not sure). They are still weeding through red tape and the show may never come to fruition.

Peavey amps, while not the greatest, do have one thing going for them - they're built like brick shithouses. A lot of musicians use them for touring rigs because they have that 'perfect' amp that they don't want to abuse on the road.

I knew I just read this somewhere!
While this may not be the "textbook" answer (if such exists!), I thought it was a pretty simple and useful answer. To quote Marty Friedman in the July '98 Guitar World "Full Shred" column:
"...The vast majority of hard rock chord progressions are comprised of simple root/fifth power chords.* A power chord is neither major nor minor - it's harmonically ambiguous. This means that if you're soloing over a single power chord, you can take your solo wherever you want to - you can go major or minor and use different modes and arpeggios to paint a variety of musical colors, provided you know what you're doing and the progression allows for some harmonic flexibility."
* root/fifth meaning a base (think 'bass') note with an accomp- anying note 7 half-steps above (why? 'cause it's five half-steps below the root's octave). A basic E power chord, arguably the most prevalent during the '80s, consists simply of hitting the big fat E-string, while being coordinated enough to simultan- eously put your finger behind the second fret of the somewhat thinner A-string (which would sound a B) and hitting it as close to the same time as you can. Then, stomp your foot, and swing your head about. Sounds like a lot of work, huh?

As I am from Michigan, I have never been to anyher of these places, but didn't you guys say that Birch Hill was really small? That's strange because the place they just played here was an arena with max around 7000, and there was a fairly decent turnout. Just curious.

Many thanks to the Ytsejammers that put up the Classical thread. I went = to the library and tried out some of your suggesetions. I have been = impressed by Mahler, but I discovered this quartet that TOTALLY blew my = mind away.
The group is called the KRONOS QUARTET and if you would like to hear = TRULY progressive classical pieces, this is it!! I would reccomned this = group to the fans of King Crimson. This group is just so innovative, = both in style and technique. They must slap, pop, bang and even use a = pick on those instruments (3 violins and 1 cello). Truly progressive!!! = Can any other ytsejammers back me up on this one???

As I've been a few days behind on emails, only five minutes ago did I come across Mike Bahr's post of the latest misery to descend Neil Peart. Since that moment all I've done is virtually stare aimlessly at my computer. Perhaps the shock didn't strike me initially; when I continued down Mike's post and read the first of his personal remarks, then I understood: "One of the cornerstones of my life up until now has just crumbled." My stomach simply gave out and I really had to bury my head in my hands.
Of course I shant bombard the Jam with much in the way of my personal response to this event (and of course only time will tell Rush's ultimate fate), but there is one point I should share (inasmuch as it does relate to DT, as well as the rest of music held in this vein), for as Mike said, "I imagine many of you feel this way." :
While I could talk unabatedly of the wonders Rush's music has provided me with emotionally, psychologically, whatever, over the years, I won't. But it boils down to one issue: RUSH IS WHAT GOT ME INTO THIS WHOLE THING TO BEGIN WITH!! Lyrics aside, individual songs aside, it is that (oftentimes to me) indescribable SOUND of Rush which fills me with such intense pleasure. That same aspect of DT moves me in the identical way. I'm 22. I constantly refer back to when I was only seven or eight and heard my very first Rush song, The Camera Eye, for the first time. I do consider that song to have Rush's quintessential SOUND, however abstract that term my lend itself to their music, and as much as I don't want to cite individual songs. You couldn't have hit me hard enough to phase me on the night of my 18th birthday when I got to see them for the first time at Madison Square Garden. I even wore a tie to school that day. It was an event I shall never forget.
To those who view music as passionately as we do, I believe it's always possible to visualize in your mind's eye you getting word of some sort of tragedy befalling your favorite band, hearing of their breakup, whatever it may be. You then contemplate, "OK, they're through....now what? Of course I'll endure through this, but...well...hmm, I just don't quite know how conceptualize them not being a part of my life anymore, inasmuch as they played such an integral part in it up until now."
Quite simply, my emotions to this day are in consonance with the peaks and troughs of Rush's music and overall sound, and it was only after fully being able to internalize their music was I able to focus in on appreciating bands like DT, Yes, the Ozric Tentacles, and countless other bands, jazz groups included. It seems as if we have reached the point where in all likelihood, as Mike said, "until further notice, Rush will be no more." I'm left feeling utterly grateful to what they have done for me, yet this last phrase, well, just flat out makes me nauseous.

Hello everyone, I'd like to add another audience bootleg to that list. I was in a record store on Long Island that sells bootlegs in their used section. They had two DT boots, one called "In Germany" and the other called "Acienne Belgique", both from the FII tour. "In Germany" sounded good but the setlist wasn't anything special. "Acienne Belgique" had a great setlist so I listened to that one and bought it after just a few seconds of listening. Let me tell you, this is one great bootleg. I'd say the sound is a little below "Static Progress" and the only negative is that some girl is screaming at the beginning of Disc 1 and sounds like she's getting killed. But after a little while, she was either put out of her misery or she just shut up. : ) Here's the setlist from the show that took place on Feb. 26, 1998: Disc 1 Crimson Sunrise/Innocence Take the Time New Mellinium Voices Guitar Solo Peruvian Skies Just Let Me Breathe Lie The Way It Used to Be (FII demos) Disc 2 Derek Solo Anna Lee (MP sings the first verse very badly. Its been years since I've seen this one but I believe its the one that has a cartoon (kinda like Heavy Metal) version of mindcrime and it fades in and out to the band playing the songs, not live in concert though, just them playing in a warehouse or something. Once again, its been years :) Operation Livecrime is the video that came with the video/CD (or tape) box set from the Operation Livecrime tour. Very worth getting if you can find it anywhere.
On a side note, does anyone know where I can get some samples of Age of Impact? Thanks!

I had a great time last year and I highly recommend it to all Jammers...just a great enviornment for prog/power metal. The bands, the cd vendors...just the whole vibe was very cool. Symphony X is supposed to be headlining Saturday night and I just got an email from the Quiet Room saying that they're probably playing again this year. I know last year I met Mike (Thrak...) and a few other jammers...hope to see a few more there this year. Then DT/DP/ELP in L.A. the week after I get back home...perfect timing!
