I've been having problems trying to connect to UACM lately.
Sometimes when I click my home page (which is UACM), I get a "server did not
respond" message. If I keep clicking, I sometimes get the frames, but with
nothing in them. It's only since it became www.dreamtheater.net that I've
been having the problems. Has anyone else experienced this??

    Hey

This is hugely off-topic, but still more coherent than many posts. :-)

Has anybody read "Portnoy's Complaint" by Philip Roth? I bought it on a
whim, mostly because of a familiar name in the title, :-) and found it
    hilarous.

    Hello,
Well, if anyone had to replace Nick Menza, I'm glad its Jimmy Degrasso.
Dave's worked with him before on MD.45 and isn't likely to just toss him
from the band on a whim. I wish Nick all the luck though. Oh, and just as I
wouldn't go see a movie just to hear a song, I'm not going to boycott a
movie because of a song. I hate to break it to y'all, but someone had to
redo Tom Sawyer someday. If DT did it, would you be as pissed? Suck it up
and show some "cultural diversity". :P Small Soldiers looks like a cool
movie by any means. I may have to do a triple feature this weekend... :)
On movies, has anyone who has seen Mulan noticed how out of place the
songs are? They aren't at all integral to the plot as the songs were in the
early 90s Disney movies (Little Mermaid, Beauty...). It would have been a
much better movie without them, IMHO. But that Stevie Wonder song over the
    closing credits was pretty cool.
Okay, can somebody please explain why Paul Gilbert is doing a clinic in
Kansas, but not one in all of New England?! Paul, try going to Boston. You
know, Berklee's there, and there are plenty of musicians. And I'm still
waiting for someone to review his solo album King of Clubs. Anyone, anyone?
    Bueller?
As for soccer, stop talking about it. I could give less of a shit who your
favorite players are. Unless they play guitar, bass, drums, keys, or even
the ukelele. God, I miss Tiny Tim...
Album review time: next up from my Columbia House shipment are Better Than
Ezra "Friction Baby" and Diana Krall "Love Scenes". Hey, why you reaching
for the page down key? :) I bought BTE based on one song I heard on the
radio, call me pawn of the capitalists. That song is Desperately Wanting
and its just about the only distinguishing song in this 13 track set. This
is the case of a band that is too uniform in its sound, so much so that
songs don't have an individual feel. For a similar example, see Oasis.
As for Diana Krall, I didn't know white women could sound so damn sexy
(and she looks as good as she sounds). This album has some standards on it
(Can Take That Away From Me) and some originals, and features the always
stunning bass work of Christian McBride. This is an album to seduce women
by, if I could only find some women...:)

If there's one disadvantage to living in the UK and liking 'slightly
obscure' and 'commercially challenged' bands, then it has to be the delay
in finding out either good or bad news.

This was the case when I decided to check out any Urge Overkill sites on
the web. Only then did I find out that they had split up pretty
acrimoniously some time ago. If you haven't heard of this band then I
recommend you check out their coolest two albums 'Saturation' (Sister
Havana is a perfect guitar/pop song) or 'Exit the Dragon. They had that
real something which set them apart from other bands, I hate finding out
news like this, it was the same with Kyuss and Saigon Kick(for a
while).....if Kings X do this trick on me I will not be a happy hombre.

Back on DT related matters, I recently posted on the jam for tape trades of
Subconscious for a copy of my CD Boot Guitar Talkin. In some subsequent
exchange of e-mails I find out that the quality of Eve and Original ACOS is
pretty dodgy on Subconscious...........2 questions......1) How different
is the original ACOS and 2) Where can I find THE COPY of this version.

I'm still probably going to go through with a trade/copy with a kind jammer
(cheers MM) but as always I'm interested in those rarities.

Ok, I wasn't going to mention anything about this until it was complete, but here it goes:

I'm currently working with Mike Portnoy, Scott Hansen, and Chris Merlo on creating the Dream Theater Trading Post / Set List Project web site.

I have all of the shows already entered into a database and am working on the ASP (scripting language) pages to make the database queriable And I am working on a backend which allows user's to enter what shows they own, and browse through the set lists and see who has what shows, etc. so that they can trade a lot easier.

Since creating back ends of web sites with ASP is what I do for a job, that shouldn't be tough to apply it to this.

This web site will be completed (for sure) by the end of August 1998. (Maybe earlier if time permits.) It will have _everything_ you've ever wanted to know about Dream Theater & their concerts. (including an area for users to upload their MP3s, photos, reviews, etc. - suggested by Itchy)

    Until then, Nick Bogovich

Hello everyone, A week ago I got the new LABYRINTH album called "Return to heaven denied". I didn't like their previous opus but this one KILLS! I think it's similar to Stratovarius but has more progressive elements similar to Fates Warning. What amazes me about this band is that all songs are written by some other guys, not members of Labyrinth. A definite "must" for every fan of speed/power/prog metal.

Just thought I'd share. Take care all, Volodya.

Sound like a good headline to everyone?

After a request from Marcel, the idea of contacting record companies to help Lemur Voice get their next recording released has been thrown around for a few days on the Jam.

Let's target a specific record company. Metal Blade records has offices in the US and Europe. They support bands like Fates Warning, Divine Regal, and now, Spock's Beard. They send bands on tour and distribute world-wide.

Anyone who wants to help get a new Lemur Voice recording released, go ahead and send an e-mail (or write) to Metal Blade.

I would suggest including in your letter that you will definately purchase it when available.

And most importantly, here's the address:

    mtlbldrcds@aol.com

    or

Metal Blade Records Inc. (Main Office) 2828 Cochran St. Suite 302 Simi Valley, CA 93065 Hotline: 805-522-7548

    or

Metal Blade Records GMBH (Europe) P.O. Box 1332 73054 Eisilngen, Germany

Send those messages now! (If you like Lemur Voice...)

    Hey, Andrew.

Take it easy, my friend. People are just talking about soccer because right now there's an international championship called the World Cup, if you didn't know. It happens once each 4 years.

And if I were to complain about the Hockey posts that once in a while happen to appear on the jam or the American Football or any other sport not widely spread, then the jam would have more complaints than messages. So, to avoid such extra-bandwidth, the best thing you can do is just to skip those messages.

They are a popular manifestation that won't last very much (the World Cup lasts for 1 month -- it will end on Sunday, 12th, if you didn't know).

And we actually have some members here who enjoy the sport. You can't blame on them just because of their preferences. Just because soccer isn't popular in the US (and, based on your posts, you seen not to like the sport), it doesn't mean that people will have to shut up their spontaneous manifestation (read this: this almost never happens AND when it happens it doesn't take that much of bandwidth).

I certainly wouldn't like to see infantile posts such as: "Ok, then you can start talking about soccer and I'll be talking about <insert something strange here that I don't know>", because that isn't what I'm talking about. These posts won't last very much (as is the fact with those posts regarding hockey or basketball or any other popular sport in the US). Cope with this.

I'm sure you'll understand my point here and be more flexible in your next posts.

    []s, Roger...
