OK yall, I'm sure you've all heard about the experiments that were done that proved that children who grew up under the influence of classical music were slightly more intellectually capable than children raised on "normal" music. So I was thinking...why could this be? And I came to the conclusion that it must have to do with the complexity of the music itself. Which leads me to my thesis. Prog is undoubtedly quite complex, so...I think we should organize a little experiment... Anyone who plans on having a kid or is in the process of raising one, let em listen ONLY to prog. And then, have another kid, and play them Green Day. Then in ten years, compare the two kids and then post your findings.
Anyway, there's my wonderful idea. Yeah, shit like this happens when im tired :)

Well it's possible that raising the kids on different kinda of music may have a negative effect on one or both of them. Raising a kid strictly on prog might turn him away from the genre. Remember, kids usually listen to different music than their parents. Or you might have another scenario where raising a kid on prog will turn him into a computer science Star Trek geek who reads the ytsejam every hour of every day of the week.
I like the theory about exposing kids to classical music at an early age. I haven't read any articles on it yet, but it sounds cool. I bet though, that an even better approach is to expose the kid to all (or as many as possible) forms of music. I was lucky that my brother had about 400 CDs in his collection when I started to like music. I wouldn't have had a passion for music if it weren't for music.
Thank god he had a Dream Theater CD in his collection, even though he said the only reason he initially bought it was because he liked the cover art.

I haven't got mine yet either. Normally I'd shrug it off, but about 2.5 weeks ago Mike DID say that he mailed the last of them. I don't think it takes that long to send a CD. Mike, were you scammed at both ends of the post office, or did you get late sending it out? I'm not trying to start another war here, but I know the mail ain't that slow.

Hello all,
I was recently at the Dr. Mosh site and downloaded a MP3 of this Japanese band called X-Japan. I must say, I was floored by the music! So I went over to CDNOW and found a band named X (Japanese Band).
Is this the same band? And if so, does anyone know their entire available collection? According to CDNOW, they have one CD and it's a single at aout $24. And they have that %30 promo now, so if someone can fill in the gaps for me, I can order this CD.
If you haven't already checked it out, go to Dr. Mosh's site and listen to the MP3's of this band. Man, they rock!

It seems to me that the Dual Recto has the most Bass, Mid, and Treble of them all. And that at the same time. It looks like they've boosted some pretty amount of mid, somewhere... It really scared the shit out of me, when i tested it with the original cabinet. (Somewhat bigger than the average Marshalls) Anyway...The TriAxis is one of the few preamps that I really like playing. Maybe it has something to do with the voltage fed to the tubes. I think I've red that it's somewhere around 250V, while other preamps like Marshall MP-1 don't even use the tubes for crunch/overdrive, and that it's a much smaller amount of voltage fed to them. Another preamp that claims to use high voltage on the tubes is Rocktron's Piranha, and that thing sure sounds like it burns...

The real world seems to be clouding your thinking...:) I too was party to a seminar on data mining but was under the impression that it was not yet being implemented to the extent you describe. But still, you're saying I should even contemplate buying a Spice Girls disc? You're twisted. :) As for the live disc: people should keep in mind that the last three tracks (Met, LtL, ACOS 7) are likely the medley that they were playing on the last leg of the tour and NOT the full versions, so it will differ from previously heard material. Still, I'm ticked that NM, TLF, and TWIUTB aren't on there. I may not buy it for that reason. Yeah, right. I could do without a live version of LitS, considering they played it note-for-note when I saw them. And what happened to all the covers?! Well, beggars can't be choosers, can they... As for Jammers favorite live albums, why has no one mentioned Live at the Marquee? It is one of my faves. Another is Joe Satriani, Dreaming #11. These are the only two live albums I own that feature (what would seem to be) spontaneous musical energy. Every song on Dreaming (the live tracks) has some sort of incredible improvisation in it, and Bombay Vindaloo just plain kicks ass. I would love to see Satch release the full show that Dreaming was taken from, though three more songs from it appear on Time Machine (and put the rest of the live material to SHAME). BUT the all time greatest live album, hands-down: Sting, "Bring on the Night". No disputing this will be accepted. Anyone who owns this? I would guess not, or you would have mentioned it. Other notables: Rush, "Exit Stage Left"; The Police, "Live" (really just the first disc); Cheap Trick, "Budokan". I think too many bands out there just release live albums full of studio tracks performed live note-for-note. Van Halen and Rush are perfect examples of this. There's no spontaneity to the performance (as is the case with Rush live, though understandably), so why bother with the albums. I like ESL because the songs SOUND better live in some cases and the medley that starts with Broon's Bane rules. But I've heard plenty of live albums that make me sick with their sheer commercialism (DMB, Aerosmith, Talking Heads, and MANY more).

Nope, haven't seen mine either (I'm #69). Yes, I think it strange that it's been off the update page for almost a month now, and it only takes 4-5 days for the mail to find its way to BFE Indiana. Okay, here's the skinny -- X (Japanaese Band) and X-Japan are the same band -- X nearly got sued over name issues from the American band X, so they changed their name to X-Japan. Here's their discography (I hope):

Yes they do. Dahlia has a more Stabbing Westward feel -- kinda quasi-industrial. Anything before that is hair rock at it's best. Dahila is a good album, believe me. My favorite is Art of Life -- the mini album. one 29-minute long song.
