They're sent. No guff, no kidding, no joke. The fact that some of you
still don't have it is of more than minor concern to me. As far as I
knew, I had finally taken care of that one.
The last Streams went out last Monday. We're talking like less than the
last two dozen. Most of them have been out a WHILE.

To let you know, eesharp is an endangered species. Many herds once roamed the planet and their mournful howling could be heard from miles around. Many a night, Lydian tribesmen would sit and admire their haunting calls and praised the eesharp and even went so far as to worhip and mimic them. Unfortunately for the majestic eesharps, the Dorians conquered the Lydians in 1524 after a 27 year dispute on augmentation. Eventually the name originally given to the eesharps was forgotten as interracial breeding occured. What remaines of the Lydians, now called the Mixolydians refer to the eesharps as the gibbs (Gbb) while the pure stock of Dorians simply refer to them as the effs. The effs now roam the rangelands free once again, still the same fragile creatures, yet forging the future under a new guise.

Rick, all this stuff is on my page.
To all. Not a Prism war, just info for the masses.
1. I'd send 'em in double slimline jewel cases, but none of my suppliers ever have enough!!! I order as many as I can and when I do get them, I send all of them to orders (that's why some folks get them and some do not... this is ENTIRELY RANDOM and has no favoritism or anything). If I could get them all the time, I'd SEND them all the time. Rather than just cram both discs into a single case, I send disc 2 in its own case for maximum protection.
2. The printouts are made on a quality sublimation-dye printer. Unless I plan on keeping prices higher for gloss, this is as close to magazine quality as it gets.
3. The cut/uncut issue was already answered. In some places, double and/or triple jewel cases have different dimensions if they are from different suppliers. You can always cut them to fit a certain case, but you can't un-cut them back onto the page if I cut them to fit the wrong case. When I know I've got supply on the right jewelcases, I'll go back to always cutting them and including them "complete". For now, it's not worth it to piss people off by cutting them for "open left" doubles and having them want to use "open right" doubles, and chewing me out.
4. If there are severe static on your disc then I'll replace it for free with a proper one. If you're only talking about the momentary skips that happen in five songs, that shit's on the master... and there's NO patch material that would have corrected it. See my next update to the page (Monday or Tuesday) for the full skinny on this. The general sound of the disc should be clean and clear throughout.
5. As for book rate shipping, it looks like I can't win. I offer customers the CHOICE now!!! You can order it for book, priority, or fedex, at your option. The option wasn't offered back then so I send it in whatever manner I can get the most stuff shipped out in the shortest amount of time. I mean, TIME was the real problem, right? I seem to remember hearing something about delivery speed being the be-all and end-all of quality service? (grin)
6. The no-stop on PMU to Scarred. Damn right they're continuous. CD ain't always gonna be the media of choice. In the future (and even now), what if you want to put it on a DAT, DVD, or MP3 disc? I master the shows complete in one pass. If they are ever written to a single piece of media, they play exactly as they would have sounded in person... continuously.
I'll stop here. I'd just appreciate it if people would find out the info about what they're slamming me about, before they talk about stuff that's already been addressed.

Hi you remember the Bach to the future beginning after the speaker burns?? "Rock'nRoll" That's what I say the show was all about. I don't want a Bon Jovi discussion here, but I think RS is the better soul-rock singer than JBJ. Man he had so much power and his voice seems to never crack. He started half an hour late and the setlist was something like that (like I remember it) Made in America If God was a woman Stranger in this town Bad Medicine (BJ) I'll be there for you (BJ) Shooting star Fallen from graceland In it for love Hard times come easy Get back (Beatles) Undiscovered Soul ------------------------ Midnight Rider/ Wanted dead or alive (BJ) With a little help from my friends (Beatles/ Cocker-BJ version) ------------------------ Livin' on a prayer (BJ) Alright now
Bad Medicine really kicks ass when Richie sings. I had a real good time although I was alone there. My favorite when Richie sings is still With a little help, I t really kicks me high. If haven't listened to that, check out the San Diego live in 91. Ooops, almost forgot, the band. Background singer was the girl who was supposed to go in tour with Bill Joel now but I saw her before (w/Metallica,lol ah, Toto 2nd guitarist was somebody who looked like Keith Richards and played like him:(,(please no flames here, I just don't like KR taht much). RS he was with Aerosmith or something. Keys Tony Mandall, cool guy, but at times too quiet. Bass and drums I didn't know them and they played ok, drummer was in Dave Lee Roth's band and bass in Brian Adams or something. Sound was alright, although RS's guitar seemed to get louder w/every song. Bye schnipp

Hi, someone wrote that his mother listens to GD and his father to DT. The second concert I went to were the Scorps, w/my dad. I then got into Malmsteen and Satch and my dad went to see both twice with me (although = I was like 22 and could have gone alone). He recently got himself Facing th= e animal and they both like the new classic concerto. I provided a copy of = FII for his car and it seems that he listens to it regularly, especially when= he picks me up when I get home after 3 weeks or so. MMh, on the other hand I didn't really pick up that much from them. Phil Collins maybe, Clapton ,o= k, but my cornerstones came from other people. CdeBurgh (long ago) by my unc= le and then Slippery when wet, M'steens Odyssey, =B4GM's After the war , the= n the poser's (which I still like very much and a new Poison in original cast?? whoa) and then Awake. it took some time... schnipp

I love ranting about stupid stuff and getting others riled up. You guys are funny. On a more serious note, if you have a Computer City near you, you can pick up a ten pack of 2cd slim-lines for $9.99. It's a lot cheaper than purchasing one at a time and if you do like these, you'll eventually use them up quicker than you think (I use them for those crappy two cd digipack releases like Van Halen live and the latest Counting Crows live cds). Later, Kevin.

Now here on the Jam, we probabely discuss about 300 different bands a week. many of which are prog or prog metal. And there is no group that everyone can agree on here besides DT. Now I know this is the DREAM THEATER mailing list but DT is the most high profile progmetal/prog band out there. I have been rediscovering DT myself these past few days (I go through this kinda thing about once every 4 months) and I think it would be cool if we started a thread about what is so special about DT. I mean, they hold something so powerful and special that very few other bands tap into. These sdays, there are a lot of DT clones out there and not many (if any of them) mix the things DT does and come out with a formula for near perfect music. I will begin by telling why I think DT has gotten the attention they have.
I say it is three aspects.
1. Originality- Dt came to us at a time when music was runing bland for many people. i dunno about other people but back in 92 I&W screamed at me as something that new and different that nobody else was touching on. I heard PMU and that was it, game over, I am branded for life 2. Emotion- I read a post where someone mention people complain that DT LACKS EMOTION? please. They soar with emotion. I mean their use of tension and resolve with time signitures is unparralleled. I listen to learning to live and I cry. Their music encompasses any emotion anyone can imagine feeling. EMOTION ALL THE WAY BABY 3. Technical skills- you listen to DT for the first time and you say wtf are they doing? How can anyone think of that??? They have the skills and the minds to create truly unique music that just tickles your music taste buds.
these things define Dream Theater as more like a drug rather than a band. Anything that would have me fly from Boston to Texas under the quise that I was visiting my Girlfriend when in fact I was going to see DT is way too adictive. I mean, it's crazy man. anyway, there is my opinion. I hope to hear other people's opinion of why DT stands out above the rest in their genre --

I've only taken 1 term of Japanese at MIT (supposedly the best Japanese program in the nation - it's fucking intense!) and I'm almost positive that the tattoo you are referring to says "Ma-i-ki" or "Mikey" in katakana. I recently saw Portnoy at a drum clinic in NH and noticed the tattoo during his warmup routine.

Hello,
>only mine would be a non-existing note
I hate to break it to you, but E# does exist. At least in my reality...<g> There's a few scales and chords that it would be pretty hard to play without an E#. F and E# are NOT the same thing in all contexts. Rick said: > So why discontinue one and not the other ?
I think in the case of the DT demos, everyone has the CDs that the real versions are on before getting the demo disc. As for KevMo's disc, it doesn't seem like many people on here have it yet. Not that many people would buy demos before getting a real disc, but who knows his reasoning. Look at all the confused SoC disc owners! Richie said: >What about people complaining about what other people > are complaining about? :)
I just get bothered by people mentioning other people complaining about what other people are complaining about. Its a vicious circle. <g> Christopher asked: >What's a Taurus pedal?
Taurus pedals are a row of bass synth pedals that allow Alex to play bass notes when Geddy is playing keys. The chorus of Analog Kid comes to mind, also Spirit of Radio. And $1400 for a Jackson is WAY too much. I don't know who you're buying from, but for God's sake TALK HIM DOWN. This has to be the list price...

Okay, jammers...I'm going to address that whole progressive/classical music thing right now. The only thing that has been proven with respect to listening to classical music and intelligence as far as I know is that it has been effective on test scores if listened to 15 minutes before taking the test. Now I might have missed out on some REAL journal articles, but I don't think so, since I just ran a search. There was no effect on IQ scores, only achievement-type test scores. However, if your children learn to actually appreciate the music, THEN there is hope for their intelligence. If the children just sit there and hear the music throughout life, they will probably have the same likelihood to drool into a cup (or miss) as a child raised on any other kind of music, and even perhaps no music at all, because they are not necessarily appreciating or learning about the music. I find music in general doesn't effect people until they get to be of an old enough age to intellectually understand it; therefore children learn more from songs like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes," than Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.
Ah, well, just my psychologically-oriented views on the subject. Sorry the reply was late, but I was inundated by jams in my box, and I had to do a lot of work before I could read them all.
Sorry for the NDTC, but here's something else: SOLITUDE AETURNUS *did* come out with a new album this summer! (CHEER!!!!!) Check out http://www.brainticket.com to learn more. I believe John Perez is the head of Brainticket Records, and he will be putting out SA's CD's from now on....

Well, at least you made no comment on the actual performance. James sucked. He really sucked. Did I mention he sucked?
Then again, he's been passable when I've seen them, so maybe it's just the fact that he was SO far up in the mix on the Liveconcerts show - something that never happens when you see a band live.

But I'm sure they realize this, it's just what they want to do, it's not a "problem".
>Re: Michael Romeo- >His ability is great, but I feel he is one of the worst guitarists in my CD >collection. And I do own some classic rock, alternative and pop discs. I think >that his solos lack direction. They sound like a string of licks rather than a >coherent solo. None of his solos are memorable for me. David Gilmour is the >master of phrasing. Then regarding his accentuation, listen to a Petrucci >speed run and a Romeo speed run. Petrucci's notes stand out more, while Romeo >seem more slurred.
His rhythm playing can't be faulted. No way can he be the worst player in your collection if you own pop discs, I just can't agree with that. Most pop guitarists just can't play, and I'm not just talking technique here, their phrasing is pathetic too. I partially agree with you on the solo front. Some of the solos are just play this scale, play that scale type ideas, but then that again is what he wants to do. Having said that, there are some extremely well phrased ideas, like the opening solo on The Accolade, and the one at around 17:30 in The Divine Wings Of Tragedy. About the accentuation: Romeo can sound as clear as Petrucci, listen to the second guitar solo in the guitar/keyboard play-off in Of Sins And Shadows. A lot of the time, he reminds of Marcel Coenen in his choice of sounds and playing; lots of slur feel stuff. Both are excellent players. A lot of Romeo's fast picking reminds me lot of Yngwie, in its slurred feel.
>Re: Russell Allen- >I think he's one hell of a vocalist. His voice is great, and he can do metal >growls to some crystalline clear passages. He's my favorite member of the >band.
He definately is a brilliant vocalist, but he does sing a little sharp in some passages in The Divine Wings Of Tragedy (the song).
>Re: the keyboardist- >I don't like him. Part of the reason is that he and Romeo seem to always trade >blindingly fast solos. None of which I care for.
Some of his ideas are wonderful, like the introductory riff on The Eyes Of Medusa, and also his parts in The Accolade. Also, the patches he uses for these riffs are excellent too.

Based on the transcription in the official book I'd like to add that the often meantioned d-power chord is the only time a note sounding lower than the open E-string appears.
