Maybe this could be solved by including a seperate disc, or
perhaps putting multiple system areas on the CD? Chances are
the actual MM data would only have to be included once. I'm
not sure that it's feasible, just something to consider.

    > * the multimedia presentations wouldn't be playable all the time --

    > Discman or your main stereo, which limitates the fun;

Well, half the fun would be treating this as a bonus. Maybe (and
again, this is in a perfect world), you market two versions: one with
the MM, and one without. Make the bonus one cost like a dollar
more, and let the customers decide.

    > these things" or to show your friends?

You're asking this to a group of people who are unabashedly
thrilled about the possibility that DT will release B-sides and
singles that they may never play live? Do you think there is noone
on this list that gets a chubby at limited edition DT stuff, no matter
    what the format? :)

Remember that DT promo file for Awake? Pretty lame when you
get right down to it, but how many of us had a copy at one point?
How many have a copy *now*? That's what I thought.

I've always spent a great deal of time browsing the stores in the village
when I was in the area. Unfortunately, I've NEVER found DT stuff or Tori
Amos stuff for a handful of reasons:

         1) If I'm in the village, I'm probably severely intoxicated.
I always have a fear of buying shit in that state,
I might by looking for a DT boot and end up with Ted Stryker's
    famous Polkas!

         2) I always look for cool stuff anyway, and I find total shit. I've
    never
scored a single cool thing to buy in the Village...ever!

         3) The chances of me purchasing Tori Amos outside of NYC isn't any
    better
the chances of my buying her stuff inside the Big Apple. Sorry...

Anyway, all of this is not really necessary....Simply the best place to find
Progressive music is a place called the Music Arcade in Westbury (I know,
D-Man already mentioned this)........Simply put, if there is a DT / Rush /
Yes boot that they can get their paws on, they sell it in that store. In
addition, they have almost every Magna Carta disc in the catalog.....The
best thing to do is save you cash, take an afternoon, and go out to Long
Island and stock up.....It's a lot better than wasting time trying to find a
good store for prog in NYC! :)

I haven't heard anything definitive yet (and Metal Blade doesn't like to
release any dates until they are at least half way solid), but Jaxx is
advertising one date of the tour on October 8. s soon as I find out some info
on the tour, I'll post it here....

A Pleasant Shade of Gray has sold pretty well compared to other Fates albums (I guess especially in Europe). Metal Blade knows just about how much Fates stuff it will sell when they release a new album, they know they have a core fanbase that will buy everything that comes out (much like DT)...

hmm......boot stores in nyc. i know there's a couple of nifty little shops walking down st. mark's place in the village (that's st. mark's between 2nd and 3rd), and on (i think) thompson street, which isn't too far away from washington square park there's a place called generation records where i've seen both dt and tori boots. i don't remember their exact addresses, but it's one of those places you just get used to seeing when you pass by there enough.

i KNOW for a fact there's at least a couple of good places out on the island too. one i know about is called twisted disque (i'm pretty sure that's what it's called). now i haven't been there in a long time, and i know they keep really weird hours, but it's on hempstead tpke. right by the belmont racetrack.

i keep about yet another one out on the island, but this one i've no clue as to what it's called or where it is. i just know that some of my friends have been there, and it's supposed to be good.

    hope this helps.

    Jammers,

In reference to the new Angra album, Fireworks, can anyone tell me if they plan to record with a real orchestra this time? Make no mistake, I dig Angra alot, but wouldn't a *real* orchestra bring these guys orchestral/classical sections (and overall music) to a new level? Am I right .....?

Well for me, my first DT experience was early 96 when i borrowed a copy of Awake from a friend of mine. I can still remember that truly enlightening week of constantly replaying Awake over and over again, not because I loved it straight away (in fact the majority of the songs I disliked), but because of some sort of indefinable sense of intrigue that compelled me to come back to the album again and again.

Up until then I'd been raised on a diet of mainstream and mildly alternative rock, so hearing something that was truly 'progressive' for the first time was a rather obscure experience - I mean DT seemed to be just like another hard rock/heavy metal ensemble (guitar, bass, drums, keys and vox), but the unique hook of curiosity which made me single out these guys as 'something else' *wasn't* because they used a crazy techno dance beat with lots of funky, industrial synth sounds, or played sloppy, grungy, loser trash-shit rock and sung about how much society sux while swearing left and right centre for some simple minded shock-rock tactics. No, DT's appeal wasn't in a flimsy exterior layer of cosmetics and cheap theatrics - it was deeper than that.

At the time I couldn't, and still cannot truly do so to this day, put a label on what made these guys so special, but I knew it was there. It was something so new and fresh (esp. to me since my current musical tastes were of no help to prepare me for anything progressive, let alone something of DT's callibre) but the outstanding and creatively challenging musicianmanship was only part of what drew me to Awake. Alot of it was an emotional, and almost spiritual, enchancement provided by songs such as Erotomania, Scarred and Space Dye Vest.

DT truly shook up my.... beliefs, if you will, of what music should be and completely opened my eyes (and ears) up to world of possibilities and emotions I once had no idea could be conveyed via music.

I currently, and probably always will, consider DT's best album to Awake. I do believe the songwriting on I&W is perhaps a little more polished, but it takes a close 2nd place behind Awake for no reason other than the permanent, sentimental attachment I have to Awake. It was the catalyst for my total recallibration of my outlook on music. As Layne said, "I am branded for life...". At times I think it's strange - that a single album could have a such a profound effect on my life - but I know trying to determine a reason for it is pretty much a useless exercise.

    Thankyou for listening,

    Luke.

And, speaking of the Kronos Quartet, most of their stuff that I've heard has been boring, but I must highly recommend BLACK ANGELS. Not only is the title track, by George Crumb, an amazing piece of ambient/noise/music (which I'd put a segment of on Music that Kicks Ass if freenet's disk drives weren't still trashed after a fortnight), but we also get an excellent performance of Shostakovich's 8th Quartet, which in my opinion was his best.

I just got my copy and it kicks ass!!

JP's guitar work is absolutely fabulous. Very similar to his work in LTE.

I am not a huge fan of Trent Gardners vocals but everything else is great.

Who is Dali's Dilemma? Matt Bradley from Dali's Dilemma sings a song Fading Fast and does a great job. I cannot find any info on the internet in his band.

This is a must have CD for all.
