Just got the latest Guitar World. Under A Glass Moon squeaked in at #98. I
guess a few jammers sent in their cards! To bad Voices didn't make it. (At
least that's one of the others I voted for)

Thanks to the guy that posted the Paul Gilbert clinic dates. I went to the
show last Saturday - freaking incredible! Be sure to check him out if he
comes to a town near you. He played everything from RacerX to Spice Girls
complete with Zep solos and Sabbath riffs.

    hey everyone,

You've head Paul and Pam talking about this already and you
already know you can put yourself down on the pre-order list.
I've got the details on my web site (superior faq) You can
also order through there and get yourself the cd as well.

Right now the offer is only good to people in the US. This
isn't my call (I think it's pauls) so sorry to everyone else.
Anyhow, you can also order through my page as well.

    http://24.113.34.178/superior

just scroll down and look for the "exclusive offer" image
which is right below the intro text. That will have the price
breakdown and what you need to do.

Dino(Dr.Mosh, Pimpdaddy Mosh etc..) also has a link to it on
    his web site at:

Have a fun day folks. More marillion bass tabs on the way!

    Howdy folks,

Thought I might share some of my favorite keyboard solos, so here goes...

    1) Jens Johansson..."Krakatau" off the Odyssey album by Rising Force.
This solo still destroys me everytime I hear it
(anything off the Johansson Bros releases as well) :)

    2) Tony MacAlpine... "Autumn Lords" off his Maximum Security album

    3) Kevin Moore... "Only A Matter Of Time" off When Dream And Day Unite

    4) Anything by Michel Camilo

    5) Jens Johansson... at the beginning of the "Live In Japan '85" video with
    Rising Force :)

    Peace,

    1) As far as showing your technique, worry more about phrasing,
articulation and tone rather than speed. Thats what they're looking
    for.

    2) Play jazz:) Although they're trying to promote Berklee as a school
for all contemporary music, the fact is that most teachers and
students here play jazz, so this still is and always has been, mainly
    a jazz school.

Not that you cant get a scholarship without playing jazz; I know
people who have, but you are more likely to if you do, since most
teachers here have their ears attuned to that style, and it's
    phrasing, sound, etc..

    hope that helps,
    Ern

Hey all, I just wanted to respond to this a little differently from a
    different perspective...

    Question:
I keep asking myself this question for some time. FII is by far the
    > most commercial album of DT and DT wanted to attract a new fanbase. So
    > why did they release only one single off FII?

    Answer:
Another concern that both the fans and the band had was that their
longer songs wouldn't be "radio-friendly" enough. But just recently,
the Tool song "Eulogy" was released, and other than blipping the
swears the song is unedited. So what we have is a 9 minute song
that is (around here anyway) in fairly heavy rotation. And don't
forget that Tool is not really an "established" band, Aenima is
    essentially their "breakout" album.

Just goes to show that it *is* possible to thumb your nose at the
system, and still be successful within it. Just wish DT's label was
willing to take risks like that.

My Answer: I share a similar opinion, but I must admit that E/W sucks ass.
The promotion that they have done for other bands has been superb, but for
Dream Theater; it's a little bit below average.
I however, feel firmly that a musical revolution is in the air. It
happened in 1991 and it seems; that ever 7-10 years music evolves. Some of
the most talented music was made and performed during the 80's, despite the
image that it brought with it. The 90's stands for shit. I mean that from a
    mainstream perspective.
So what does all this mean? Simply stated, the music industry is
coming around. Bands like Big Wreck, Creed and even Matchbox 20 are talented.
The rotation on the radio stations are big with these bands. You hardly hear
bands like Nirvana and Hole on the radio anymore, why? because they suck and
people and the music industry is smartening up.
I totally believe that the music industry will start promoting bands
like DT and Rush etc. a lot more than before. You will see them come
through, I just think that FII was a little premature for the industry's
    "coming out".
                            Later, J

It's easy to explain when E# is used. When the signature is F#
    Major,
E is the 7th, so it needs to be sharped.
Other way, more technical: in key signatures with sharps, the roots
follow the cycle of the 5th's, and the sharps are added following the
cycle of the 4th's. So when you get to the root F# (by the sequence C,
G, D, A, E, B, F#), the sharps are added in this sequence on the score,
    starting from root G:
    F#, C#, G#, D#, A# and... E#.

It can't help if you use the Gb signature instead... will be a Cb
    there... But that's another story...

Holy shit! this recording is incredible! Is it you playing or
is it midi? Either way, it rocks, cause if you did do it with
midi, you would have had to arrange it yourself, and the
arrangement is wonderful. You are also a very talented
keyboardist if you did play it yourself.

ANY long island prog fans (or people willing to drive) are invited to
a free concert at Roger's Beach in Westhapton Beach. It is my
band's first public appearance, and we need all the prog fans we
can get. We are ages 15 - 17. A "Rush" trio, it includes me on
guitar, a bassist, and a drummer. Songs that will be performed
include some Dream Theater, Rush Pink Floyd, as well as a suprise
for any King Crimson fans, and an even bigger suprise for any Rush
fans. Also, of course, our originals will be played. If we get enough
Jammers to come down, I'll dedicate the performance to you ;-)
If any of you are interested, please E-Mail me privately, and I will
give you more info, as well as the set list if you want me to spoil
the suprise. Some RA demos are avalible, albiet shoddy quality,
but we are recording new ones on a 4 track as soon as possible.
The date is August 5th, and Id really appriciate it if anyone avalible
    to show does. Thanks.

First post- hey. Getting a little bit tired of seeing so many sketchy
explanations about the use of the "uncommon" notes like E#, B#, Fb, Cb, blah,
blah. These are "enharmonic equivalents" of the notes F, C, E, B, blah, and
blah. If you look at some fairly common chords, they pop up all over the
place. The note E# is everywhere- if you make it a chord's 3rd, 5th, 7th,
    9th, etc. you'll find in the chords: C#maj, Aaug, A7#5, F#maj7, F#min(maj7),
    D#maj9, D#6/9, D#add9, D7#9, Bmaj7#11....UGH!! The other funky notes work
into chords in the same way. Forget key signatures and scales- chords rule,
    kids!!
Final thoughts- ignore the classical method of learning theory unless you
powder your wig and worry about finding a cellist to support your wussy-ass
basso continuo figured bass using butt! Just get rid of all books that
mention "half-diminished chords"!!! And the melodic minor scale is NOT
    natural minor descending.... AAAGGGHHH!!!

If Dream Theater releases a double disc, live, cd for
EastWest/Electkra/WEA whatever and it sells 10,000 copies they would be
dropped from the label. This would be one of the worst things that could
happen to everybody invovled. Dream Theater would be crushed, not knowing
where to continue or disband. The label would have lost a good bit of
money (not tons relativly), and the fans would have there thumbs up there
    butts.

If Fates Warning releases a double disc, live, cd for Metal Blade/RED/SONY
whatever and it sells 10,000 copies it would be, quite possibly, the best
seller that label has ever seen. Fates would get bumped up a label or two
by the SONY big wigs, more and more money would be pushed into
promotions, and Kevin Moore would, quite possibly, join the band full
    time.

Just my thoughts....and to echo the fact that in my mind, a double from
Fates would not be a bad idea, an even if it sells 5,000 copies the band
makes money.....no promtions cost, no tour costs, no promo discs sent
out, no worring about sending that single to radio,.....all that shit.

I know, I know it's not DT but......

I went to see "There's Something About Mary" tonight with my wife(tottaly
funny movie BTW) and they showed a trailer for the new Adam Sandler movie
"The WaterBoy", well anyway I was watching the trailer when all of a sudden
I hear this familiar tune playing in the background......It was Tom Sawyer.
It was played through the whole thing(about 1.5 minutes). I just thought
it was cool....Kinda wierd hearing one of your favorite bands being played
in a public place like that.
