    Hi everyone,

I would like to share my thoughts about Age of Impact. I think Petrucci
has got his share! He plays absolutely brilliant, especially on the se-
    cond song Fading Fast.
LaBrie appears on two songs which is quite a share too, BUT I think he
'got' the songs with the least interesting 'songlines' ( how is it cal-
led? ). Personally I think he should have sung song #2 which doesn't
mean I dislike the voice Matt Bradley, as a matter of fact I think he's
doing a very good job and like the way it is now. But being a DT-fan I
would have liked LaBrie singing that song. I don't mean to offend fans
of Dali's Dilemma or Matt Bradley in particular.
Sherinian's share is OK for me, but not overwhelming.
Well that's it for me so far.

    Greetings, Almar.

Come on guys...............I know they are our favourite band but lets try
and keep the ass-lickin' and sycophantic worship to a minimum. Mike
Portnoy is not a god, he is an amazingly talented drummer, musician, music

But please......a god.....get a grip man.....this sort of post makes me
cringe and suddenly fear that I'm stuck in a Star Trek or Friends

The jam is not an exercise in acheiving the brownest tongue
possible.......if it was I would have unsubbed months ago.

Keep up the fun (i.e mentioning Tyketto's Standing Alone ....cool song) and
the interesting (i.e AOI review...new album details) jams which make this
    worthwhile....

Well, Shirley may be able to make it sound cleaner, but it wouldn't have been
as prog... cause Shirley is the man they have come in and make it sound more
    "commercial"... bah

I'm kinda GLAD Shirley had NOTHING to do with Impact.

Shirley should be hung for what he did to TAMP.

But on a positive note... Petrucci really kicks some serious ass on Impact,
he dishes out some good note selections. I think the main problem with the
mix was that too many effx were used, saturating the recording too much.

In fact, they appeared together on Monsters of Rock in Turin, Italy this summer. Van Halen was supposed to headline but their performance was canceled. Do you mean just Satriani? In Italy he played with Schenker and Uli Roth.

BTW, in Europe, Rage with Lingua Mortis Orchestra are opening for Deep Purple. Do any of European Jammers know where exactly this will take place?

And one more question: is new Firehouse album already released in the States? If someone has already bought could you post a small review (or write me privately)? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey all. I need some help here. My birthday is coming up next month (early September), and all I really want is new music for my prog collection. I would like to give a list of albumns to family and friends, but I really don't have a good idea of what they should look for. What do you all recommend? If it helps, I live in central Ohio, and most of the music store chains don't carry much in the way of prog. Also, I am the only one who has access to the internet.

    Thanks in advance. ~BC

    well, um...no.

KX has never gone gold. their closest was Faith,Hopr,Love with around 300,000 units. DT has at least one gold album (I&W), plus i'm quite positive that DT consistently sells more than KX.

not that any of that matters. both are kick-ass bands...worthy of more than the music cretics and radio give them.

Heh. I don't think the Doc was upset for Schnipp posting what he was listening to, as he was upset for posting what he was listening to in a separate post which had nothing else in it. :)

We got the following pleasant exchange from Jon P. >> Come back when you can spontanesouly jam for over 28 minutes and keep >> from tripping over yourself, let alone stay on key/beat. Till then, >> sit the fook back down :)

Do you sell tickets to that little world you're living in? Get a grip. Jon simply remarked that many people can't do the spontaneous jam thing without sounding ridiculous. Apparently you also missed the :) at the end -- in most cases that means "Don't take this too seriously", which you apparently ignored.

I thought everything about FII was damn great from the start. There was nothing better than having John M. up in the mix yet not in your face. The bass is clearly audible when you listen for it, but doesn't dominate the recording. Kevin also had the mix great through the whole album. It just came off very smoothly. Yeah, he fucked up TAMP, but he's still a great producer, I think. But Mosh is right. There are tons of effects and that's most likely the cause of all the static on EC. There's ways around all that, still, but they must not have considered it an issue. And the mix on LTE is still rather well done, too, I think, so I don't think he was just lucky with FII. :)

But that's just me... Take care! --KorgX3

I think we do okay... if I were Mike, I'd be more embarrased about the lack of self-control regarding flaming and criticizing that many people here have. Were you here when Mike showed himself finally? Quite a few flamed him handily before Mr. Ba*r and others confirmed the addy. And then, we didn't change our ways to impress him.

Hopefully, I represent more than myself with these feelings, but my "relationship" with Dream Theater is completely different than any other band. These guys are genuiunely intelligent (and could prolly spell a mite better than I), complex and three-dimensional individuals, who *hang out with us*, fer cryin' out loud. But, I have trouble saying, "Hey, Mikey, what possessed you to (xxxxx)? Speak up boi!"

Mike rockz nadz on drums, and posts to the 'jam. He *is* a god, in the metaphor of this list. Would we all be here without DT to write music cool enough and complex enough to make a mailing list for? And then he posts? Very very cool.

This praise isn't given out off-handedly. Nobody drooled all over themselves when Charlie spammed the list yesterday (We just got spammed by Charlie Dominici -- I thought I'd never live to say that...) with whatever lame thing he fell for on AOL.

In my mind, I can call people who are cool "a god". Unless you're atheist, or are really strict with your commandments (that whole no worshipping false gods thing), you can take the Bill Murray approach (from Groundhog Day) "I am a god. Not *the* God, but a god." When a friend does something cool, I *do* say, "You are a god, man." I don't sacrifice to his name, or Mike's name. I think perhaps a bit of a sense of humor is required to deal with a little fan praise... Mike's handling it okay. Others seem okay with it. Why don't you try it? C'mon, laugh with me now (hehehehehe...)

    >But please......a god.....get a grip man.....this sort of post makes me >cringe and suddenly fear that I'm stuck in a Star Trek or Friends >convention (aaaaaaahhhhhhhh)

Nonononono, an ST or F con would involve public questions involving either their lovelife or the 4th beat of the 152nd measure of Met 1 and what they were thinking when they hit the sanre instead of the high tom like the previous time through the riff... We've asked neither. i think we're okay.
