Precisely the reason I only own one Yngwie album. :) Though I must confess
to owning every Megadeth and DT CD. However, Marty and JP have both cut
back on the shred factor, IMHO. Cryptic Writings (don't know if you've
heard it) has some very interesting solos. Marty used to just impress me,
now he's gotten interesting. And as for JP, I can listen to him shred all
day and night. Just as liking Deep Impact was my guilty pleasure, so will
    DT always be...
And even though it has been answered in different fashions, here is
Stodgers, the Ytse-Grammar Brown-Shirt, with the answer to your Explorers
Club queries. As written, it could mean one of two things, either it is a
Club of Explorers (no apostrophe needed), or as someone mentioned Club
could be a verb (interesting interpretation, btw). Had they wanted it to be
possessive plural, as mentioned, the apostrophe would come AFTER the "s".
If it were possessive singular, the apostrophe would come BEFORE the "s".
For a similar example, see The James Gang, no apostrophes (a gang of
    Jameses).

I completely know what you mean. Those songs are amazing.

What REALLY gets me though is the combination of "This is the Time (1990)", which is about the elation of the Yugoslavian people with the fall of the Berlin Wall and communism, and "This Isn't What We Meant" which takes place 4 years later with an old man returning to the city of his birth (Sarajevo) and finding it in ruins. He looks to the heavens and explains to God that when the Yugoslavians prayed for change, this violence is not what they intended.

It's really emotional how positive "This is the Time (1990)" is, and then the reality and bitter disappointment sets in in "This Isn't What Me Meant".

Another heart-wrencher is the tribute to Criss Oliva - "Alone You Breathe". I feel like "I" lost a brother when I hear this one.

    Okay, WHAT THE FUCK?

I had a copy of AOI reserved at Borders, and it never came in. So I called around. I LITERALLY went to and called approx. 12 places, and 8 of them said they pushed the release date back, one had absolutely no clue, one didn't order any, and the other two said they THOUGHT they got it in and sold it, but they weren't sure.

WHERE THE HELL are you guys getting it at? BTW - as of Friday night, STILL nobody had it.

Is anybody else here experiencing problems? (I'm in the Detroit area).

Anyway, you got good ears. The similarity is quite striking, and I never noticed it before. As for who stole whose riff, shit, I dunno. Like a lot of other things, it's prolly just coincidence. Or, if you'd like a more interesting explanation, Myung and Keyser were probably twins separated at birth who were humming this particular riff and were so blown away by what each of them had just created that they forgot to watch where they were going and they accidentally fell into the same water-fountain at the same moment in Central Park on a lovely summer day back in '89. Of course, they never saw each other, but each was so struck by that particular riff that each of them never forgot it and it ended up on their next CDs. But it's prolly just coincidence.

Need to do a note-for-note comparison to be sure, of course:).

Bozzio's drums > totally get lost half the time, especially his high toms and some of the > alternating bits on the high hats and cymbals. I think you nailed the problem right there. Everybody cut poor Scott some slack, man! Bozzio's playing is HARD to hear! I picked up on maybe 15-20% of the stuff he was doing on the first few listens. (I've been listening to the CD at work, so I can't be seen staring at the wall with my headset on, listening to the music, hehehe. Daddy's gotta WORK!). Hell, just based on my first few impressions, I was thinking the same thing that Scott was: "Bozzio, man, where's your chops?" Well, needless to say, they were there. I just had to listen HARDER. Who in the hell did the mixing for this CD anyway? (I don't have the CD in front of me, so I can't answer.) Did Bozzio do something to piss off the engineer? Why is his playing so hard to hear? Christ...spend all this time enduring the hype for this CD, and I have to put up with bass drums that don't even cut through the mix at times (read: I can't fuckin' hear 'em!). Shit, at times, even his snare is hard to hear. And I'm still not convinced that Bozzio even bothered using hi-hats on this CD. Well, he probably did; maybe I'll notice it next week or something. Anyway, to answer your question, Andrew, YES, I would very much have preferred that Shirley handle the mix for this CD, considering how it turned out.

Well, that's my only gripe with this CD (kind of a big one, though; Bozzio was the single biggest reason why I bought this CD). Well, maybe not the ONLY one: my only other gripe is the ballad, but that's not such a biggie. Ballads are a fact of life:).

Well, can't complain too much, I guess. You don't get collaborations like this every week, so I guess I should be thankful that Sheehan and Bozzio got together. "Dream rhythm section", indeed!

While I will firstly admit to buying this album more out of curiosity rather than any devotion to members of bands I like (and some I've never hear of), I'll secondly admit that it's pretty good. The songwiting was basically very solid (for prog anyway) which surprised me because I think Trent's typical songwriting style sucks. (At least I thought Impending Ascension did). The songs all kick ass, which is a key factor in enjoying an album, I think. :)

The diversity of musicians adds tremendously to the flow of the music. It keeps it alive and refreshingly new with every minute of the song. Here a JP solo, there a Murphy solo, etc... The musicianship is great and the emotion is there fully as well. I love the work put into this album. It's incredible. Is it me or did LaBrie just shine on this album? I still like his vocals best although that D.C Cooper (who's he with aynway?) and Matt Bradley kicked ass, too. I seriously thought that JP's solos during Impact 2 (my favorite impact) were the best by far on the whole album. :) I'm a sucker for that slow Steve Howe's Gravy.

My only gripe about the album (and it must have been due to budget) was the mix. Where's Kevin Shirley when you need him? At times the bass is too loud, then it's indiscernable, and the drums were too dead the whole way through. And listening with headphones i get way too much fuzz coming from the guitars and vocals. probably just typical high-end static. Overall I think the production is rather disappointing.

Hopefully, if there is another EC album, it will sound as good as it sounds. :) Take care, folks! Guess what's playing. :) --KorgX3

He's with Royal Hunt...on their latest (and best, so I've heard) album "Paradox". This album's fairly easy to find...it's in most Tower Records, etc... And it's also amazing and highly recommended. Great harmonies, keyboards, everything. He's also on their 1996 live set appropriately titled "1996." I don't have this album yet.
