Just saw this on the Internet.....it's amazing how royally
stupid the press is, and the lengths (or lack of) that they
go to for a story to get out.....

Glam-rock band KISS to make feature film debut

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Popular glam-rock band KISS will make its feature
film debut in a 1970s-period comedy about
four teenagers who will stop at nothing to get into a KISS concert, New
    Line Cinema said Wednesday.

"I've been a huge KISS fan since I was a kid," said director Adam Rifkin,
who recently worked on scripts for the films "Small
    Soldiers" and "Mouse Hunt."

Famed for its outlandish makeup and costumes, KISS became a pop icon in
the 1970s and represented the supreme
embodiment of rock's transformation into pure show business.

The band broke up in 1979, but reunited in 1996 to draw huge crowds,
becoming the top-grossing act of the 1996-1997
    concert season according to Polstar.

KISS lead singer Gene Simmons will be one of the producers of the movie.
Simmons also will star in the film with original band
members Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.

Separately, KISS is set to release a new album, "Psycho Circus," in late
September on Mercury Records. It is the first new
material by the band's original four members in 20 years.

there it is.........sorry if it took up a lot of space, but who the
hell likes metal/hard rock/etc. and wasn't a KISS fan at one time or
another......go ahead, say no, I dare you...........

                                                            :)

                                            -Al

    - Houston Ytsenight 3 -

    WHEN: Saturday, August 1st
WHERE: Hard Rock Cafe (on Kirby I believe)
WHAT: Hang out with other jammers from around the area, discuss music for
hours on end, eat food for even longer, show off any boots/rarities/new bands that
you want to bring and parade around the group to feed your ego.
TIME: Try and get there for 7pm... I'll be hanging in the 'waiting to be
seated' area of the restaurant, hopefully scoring us a large table of sorts.
LOOK FOR: A guy with a shaved head, brown hair (what little is not shaved away), a
beard in progress, wearing grey t-shirt and jeans. Damn I'm cool.

Hope to see you there -

                                                                - Mark Lampert

    > Who/what is "The Knack"???

i have a number if jams to go, so I'm sure this has been answered
already, but iI'm also guessing I got something to add.....

The Knack be them that did the song "My Sharona" (so expertly parodied
by Weird AL Yankovic in "My Bologna", if i recall correctly), and the
knack is a band that at one time was fronted by a guy named DOug
Fieger....is he still their vocalist? who happens to be the brother of
one Geoffrey Fieger, who happens to be the ex-lawyer of a guy named Dr.
Death Jack Kevorkian (No, he isn't a professional wrestler....rather
he's the guy going around advocating assisted suicide).....Fieger quit
being ole Jack's lawyer to run for Governor of Michigan, and at this
time, he is spewing half-truths and full uintruth left and right with
little regard for accuracy, and still, in spite of that, may actually
win the democratic nomination for Governor of my state......

and that's my scary-as-hell thought of the day......

I stand corrected - and I hope to God that I haven't put any noses out
of joint. The reason for my speculation is due to my UK upbringing. I
have always found it easier to find KX stuff in the UK and I guess I
just assumed that they were bigger. And believe me, there is nothing I
would like to see more than OFB, DT become the huge band that they
    deserve to be.

What do you mean by drum pyrotechnics? To my ears, there's a whole lot more going on in tracks 1 and 5 of AOI than there is in most of LTE. I love LTE, don't get me wrong, but Bozzio is from another planet. The fills, the independance, the feel, sounding so effortless in such changing time signatures.

Think about this. Would the Bozzio performance stand out more if it had the same sound as MP's on LTE? Mixed by Kevin Shirley? Bozzio's drums totally get lost half the time, especially his high toms and some of the alternating bits on the high hats and cymbals.

That's true. if club is a verb, the title takes on a whole new meaning. The explorers club (some implied object being clubbed by the explorers). Ya. That works -- maybe that's what thye mean...

heh, that parallels nicely with my music analogy (you make a good point btw, i'm just mentioning this). My area of knowledge is mainly guitar, so i'll put it in those terms: How many times can you hear someone play 64th notes at 200 bpm and not get jaded? With Yngwie, JP, Marty Friedman, Joe Stump, etc. dominating the cd players (can't say radio :), many truly good guitarists go unnoticed. Doesn't necessarily mean shred is bad. (wow! i managed to swing this thread back into the mild DTC area :) Moo.
