Ooh, good choices... I personally like Equinox 7 (I Think -- the last
track, so it may be 8) and Souviner de Chine first off the Concerts en
Chine albums (2nd disc). That one is tear worthy. ^_^

that would be comparative to dismissing LTE as crap because it's all
unabashed wanking. Sure, that's what attracts us. Why does everyone have to
remain active-minded all the time? it can be enjoyable to go watch a
mindless movie with tons of special effects, just like it can be fun to
listen to punk. just like people who only listen to songs in which at least
50% of the notes are 32nd or faster and which have to have at least 3 time
signatures. Not everything has to be a masterpiece of both technical and
    writing skills.

and before you think i contradicted myself - LTE is a showcase of shred,
which can be parallelled to special effects. simple stuff like punk is
simply catchy. both basically have one aspect which attracts listeners,
isntead of being all-around rocking, like DT. that's how i put them in the
same category. That's my thoughts. Moo.

What are you TALKING about, LAID BACK?!? On track 1 and 5 he gives what
is among his sickest recorded performance. Go back and listen to the
drums only.... use headphones. The mixing is bad, and you miss a lot of
the toms and the cymbals unless you focus. It's untouchable.

I can't accept that being called laid back, because I don't know of
another drummer who could write that, and I only know of a handful who I
think would have a prayer at playing it. Jeez... there's a spot where the
high-hat pedal thing is going constantly AND he's playing double bass at
the same time (one leg is moving double speed, back and forth from HH to
Kick) if my ears don't deceive me. I'm not offering this as the "If it's
so laid back, why don't you do better" argument... I'm saying "Try to play
this stuff." I know from the little bit of drums I've banged upon that
    this is inhuman.

    Well.. Kinda.

I play kinda sorta everything, to put it that way.. Guitar, Drums and
    Keys.

Especially when drumming in 4/4 kinda boring rock-beat, I get kinda fed
uip of doeing the same all the time, and I might just have to be mighty
concentrated on trying to keep my rythm, and resist the urge to go off in
some crazy and insane fills or solos.

On the other hand, when the rythm guitars and bass kinda fade back, to
let me "do my thing" there are a lot fewer mistakes.

I have to silently admit that I haven't played drums for too long, but
    still..

Well. I am not quite sure where the border of "sad" stuff and
"Depressive" stuff goes, but I would liek to add:
Pantera - Suicide note part 1 (Great Southern Trendkill)
Metallica - Low man's lyric (ReLoad)
    Metallica - Mama said (Load)

together with most of the Bush stuf out there, and if you are into THAT
genre, how about Sneaker Pimps' "Becoming X" album?

Oh well.. In any case, jam on, and take care!

Interesting one. Now let me think.

Dalis Dilemma - Living In Fear (Listen to Matt Guillory's part in the
passage just before the lyrics start)
DT - TOWHTSTS (In the intro)
    James Horner - Aliens Soundtrack
Oregon - Distant Hills (Aren't Ralph Towner's chord voicings just amazing?)
Joe Satriani - Hordes Of Locusts (Kind of)
Many of Arnold Schoenberg's piano pieces (Usually due to the 12 note ideas)
Smashing Pumpkins - Silverfuck (In the mid-sections)
Igor Stravinsky - The Rite Of Spring (Some sections)
    Ralph Towner - New Moon
Ralph Towner - Beneath An Evening Sky

Yes, this is my first time posting, but I've been getting the List for two years or so.

Anyway, if you liked Robert Miles' "Fable" song you should pick up his recent album 23am. The songs on it are a lot better than his Dreamland album. All my friends that have heard 23am loved it and I got them hooked on it. So I advise checking it out. Sorry for cluttering the Jam with this, but I just had to post it.
