I actually mentioned this album before here on the Jam (about 6 months ago) but got no reply in reference to my queries as to any other opinions on it. Maybe I got the album before the majority of you jammers did (fuck, that'd be a first!).

Anyway, my first thoughts on the album were that it was pretty bad, mainly due to the terrible vocals and very mediocre production. Yet after a few listens the awesome potential of this band started to shine through in a big way - these guys totally smoke! especially the guitarist, Jonas Hornquist - this guy is su-fucken-perb, flowing in and out of crunchy, driving, metallic riffs to the smoothest latino licks. Once TL get a bit more exposure, he'll be considered one of the greats for sure. I know sweet fuck all about guitar and therefore never have a great coniseur(sp?) of it, but I was glued to my speakers when this guy was going off - maybe because I wasn't expecting to hear such huge talent when I listened to this disc; maybe because he is *that* good.... either way, I still stand by my opinions that the production and vocals seriously hamper this album, but nevertheless it demonstrates that these guys have got all the right ingredients.

I understand they have a new album out, Gateway, with better production and a new singer, can anyone offer some opinions on this disc. So far I haven't read a bad review about it but I wanna hear some jammers opinions too - you guys are always right :)

I know here in Richmond, VA, when Terry Bozzio came for a clinic, they had to rent out a club in the city to hold the clinic. I guess in order to cover that expense, we were charged $10 for tickets. Later when Carter Beauford came, they held that one in the store, but still charged $5 because they had to clear out almost all their merchandise in order to fit everyone in there. So they kind of had to close shop that day (ie: lose money). Maybe that's why they charge money sometimes. I thought that's what a business is supposed to do - make money.

    Just my opinion.

P.S. - both clinics were great, just wish I could catch a Mike Portnoy one.

    Hey guys,

I've been lurking for ages so I thought I'd let you know I'm not dead.

]From -- Bert >Personally, I think that CME would make a far better radio song than HY. >Anyone agree?

I think Cover My Eyes is such a great song - really under-rated, will we ever get hold of these songs (wayn, rtk etc...). They're all too good to be lost (or is that just me hungering for more DT stuff). The YTSE for Piano was incredible - I know nothing about keyboards/piano (being a drummer), but I can tell that it is phenominal stuff.

I got LTE at the weekend - and it is very impressive - a complete muzo's recording - I need more time to listen to it. I also picked up Talk by Yes - I know alot of people have slagged it - but I love this CD - Trevor rocks and I love the over-production.

    Cheers,

Dave (a UK Jammer - now in Alabama).

Remember when Arash Ashouriha got loose with:

    >- Preuvian Skies : Oh what have we here? The beginning is taken from >Metallica. > The choirs -> Pink Floyd

Well, actually, it's the first half that's Pink Floydish (ie: Slow and plodding. Hehe. Sorry, couldn't resist.) and the second half that sounds like Metallica.

    > Trial Of Trears : The Intro is from Rush's Xedau?*!. "The Wasteland" is sounding like > Pink Floyd.

*Sigh*. Listen. Stop gripping. Apparently, in the progmetal realm, if a song begins with some atmospherics and temple blocks, you are ripping off Xanadu. Well, not exactly. Give the two a listen. They are *not* the same.

    > Falling Into Infinity kicks ass and Dream Theater are the best band in the world. > But they also use elements from other bands on their songs. > My question is : WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT ?

Of course, there's nothing wrong with that. But let's take a look. All the elements of these other bands are present on FII. Sting, Bon Jovi, U2, Pink Floyd, Metallica, White Zombie, Steve Vai. Someone mentioned Marillion. It is not wrong to have influences, obviously, even heavy ones. However, here, we have at least 8 different artists being represented in some way on FII, while the question is different for Empty Tremor or Arkhe. They are being accused of modeling their music after *one* artist, Dream. Theater. I haven't heard either of them, so I'm not accusing, simply clarifying.

    Well, that's enough. Andrew

    Ahoy,

WHEN: Saturday, August 1st around 7:00 pm WHERE: Hard Rock Cafe WHAT: Hang out with other jammers from around the area, talk about music for hours, consume your body weight in food (provided you can afford it of course) and check out other boots/rarities/bands of interest that you want to bring. We'll find a place to play them later I guess!

ALSO: I'll get there about a half an hour early to try and get us a large table, since it will indeed be a Saturday night. Try and get there for 7pm so we can get an idea of how many are coming this time. Anyone who can provide a place to listen to CD's afterwards would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you there -

TO FIND ME: If you haven't already come to one of the previous Houston Ytse-hangout-nights, I have brown hair, shaved, with some hair on my chinny-chin-chin. I'll probably be wearing black shorts and a grey t-shirt. When you spot me or a group of people yapping about Dream Theater or something, so what everyone else does: walk up and say 'Is this the Ytsejam?' ... just be sure you get the right folks! :)

DAMMIT! You ruined the song for me!!! Argh!!

    but wait...

"Sheets of empty canvas..untouched heaps of clay we laid spread out before me, as her body once did...."

It doesnt have to be an art student lamenting a nude model.. What if you loved someone VERY dearly, and now she is gone.. so you sit around, and you can't keep your mind off of her.. so when you are sitting with clay and canvas, you mold her image because thats all you can think about.

Of course.. if it were about a model, he could have been daydreaming about her when she was in front of the class, and when she left, he is left with the canvas and clay which he has yet to touch because he was daydreaming too much in class..

I REFUSE TO THINK OF THE SONG IN THIS WAY! :)

    sigh.

    Take Care!
