The first DT song I ever leraned was Peruvian Skies. I figured it
out myself (with help from my guitar teacher and the internet).
It was good for me to start with since this was just as I was getting
into DT and my playing style was not the shredding type. I only know
one other entire DT song, You Not Me. Ive tried others, but my
isnt up there yet. I can play about the first half of Erotomania, but I never
got around to learning the rest. I can also do the first 3/4 of ACOS P4.
Once that diminished run comes up it just loses me ;-) I'm in the
middle of learning CiaW, since I got my 7 string, and I can play all of
PMU with the exception of that fast fun before the chorus. My goal is
to be able to play the UAGM solo by my senior year of High School,
and I think with the way I'm going, I'll be able to do it.

Not DT. Sounds like a generic prog-metal band, with only the first 7
seconds sounding like DT's typical sense of melody. But take random
pieces of music stuck together in 15-30 second clips and you have progmetal
in a nutshell, and this is it. It's DT combined with Helstar combined
with Voivod combined with Magellan and a few other Magna Carta bands.
Definitely a fan, not the original.

Some good playing, but no way would DT *end* a song like this. At least
not the DT of the past.

Umm...yeah they did. I saw it. Twice. Interesting about the sequencer,

in the studio v. live versions.

Well, "Slice Of Life" has been composed in 1995.
I have the original demo tape of "Apocolokyntosys" from 1995 which is with ET's
first singer. The songs have all different titles and lyrics.
There is long song called "Prisoner In Chains" which become later "Middleman"
and "Slice Of Life". These 2 songs are in the original demo part of "Prisoner Of
    Chains" !

I don't think at ET have ever heard Viper's song.

Btw, John Norum (Europe) has also a song called " Catalina Sunset" from his album
"Another Destination" released in 1995 which sounds like the intro of "Slice Of Life" !

    Hi

Enchant's new album "BREAK" will be released in Europe on 31.08.98.
The first edition of the album will contain a bonus track.

Btw, if you don't have Enchant's Time Lost, that go and buy it now.
    It's 1000 x better than Wounded (IMO).

You can get the CD at http://www.Knightsoftheround.com or Laser's Edge.

DL'd it too, some nice stuff in it, although it doesn't really sound
like all the ideas have been finished in the segment (If it's a demo,
that might explain it. I should freaking speak about this ...
Sheesh). IMHO it sounds more like DT meets Shadow Gallery. If it is
ME2, it should be interesting to hear it all when it comes out, and
see what happens to it (If it comes out).

    Just an opinion ....

    Peace,

This means absolutely nothing, Arash. The version of Viper's
"Illusions" that I have here is from a 1989 album and god knows if it was
    demoed earlier than that...

    > I don't think at ET have ever heard Viper's song.

It may be the case that the songs were composed independently, of
course. But the similarities are striking, if you know what I mean. BTW, I
told Marcelo that he shouldn't have messed with your religion. :-) Just
    kidding... :-)

Yeah, it is a pretty cool clip, but I am reserved...First of all, DT knows how rabid we are about getting our hands on a clip of that song. Do you think they would let it out before it was ready? Secondly, the transitions are too choppy. In everything DT has ever done, the transitions are really refined. The mp3 sounds like a demo type version, IF it actually is the song, which I am not so sure it is. However, it is a DAMN good imitation if it in fact is not DT.

Just a thought. And I plan on getting Vanden Plas, and my first Symphony X (TDWOT) within the next few weeks. Bout time eh? hehe.

    Cant wait for:

NEW SUPERIOR. My Empty Tremor Demo. New Angra. EC: Age Of Impact My Vanden Plas and Symphony X discs. NEW SPOCK'S BEARD (they are coming out with something new, right? Those guys are awesome.) Probably other stuff I cant remember right now.

    Oh yeah, new DT. :)

Hey, "Manuel" (if that is your real name), here's a suggestion for you"

    PISS OFF, DICKHEAD!!!

If you had read any of the posts, like a normal person, you would have understood that some people aren't complaining about $5. What we are complaining about is how some places holding the clinics are not charging, while others are. This suggests to some of us that some places are just trying to earn a quick buck, while other places realize that Mr. Portnoy's appearance at the store is great for sales and store recognition on it's own, and don't have to stick it to the customer (even if it's a small gouge). Do the posts centering around this topic merit the rant you gave above? Hardly.

    >if this is too much for your musical development, goodbye.

If you don't have time to take your head out of your ass and read the posts before pitching a bitch about something, goodbye.

Gee, "Manual", see how much better that makes everyone feel?

(and yes, that's intentional, for the "Humor Impaired" portion of our audience).

I think the 'Jam needs more of your thought-provoking insight, Manuel. Go ahead, work towards being MFP. It's one goal you might actually reach.

Really? I've used WinAmp 1.92, running on WinNT, P2-300 with SCSI-3 hard drives, and have been able to convert MP3's to WAV's and they sound great. Maybe WinAmp's decoding quality is more hardware-dependant than some people would like.

I know Rogerio's recommended that L3 program, and it works well also. Although the last version I saw was a DOS version, and unless you like dicking around with command line parameters, I'd avoid it.

Yes it's him but this CD is Progressive Rock. Brett Garsed is on guitar, and Carl Carter is on bass. It has covers of "Walk This Way", "Roundabout", and Edgar Winters "Frankenstein" plus 12 other "originals". It's not quite LTE, but it's damn good. Check it out, it's on Paranormal Records. If you can't find it, go to WWW.BobbyRock.com, theres an 800 number you can call to order and there is also samples to listen to if you don't want to take my word on it.

Ok - you are onto something here. But instead of releasing it through the label (because I doubt the label would) - why not make it a DTIFC Christmas Video (instead of the usual CD). Heck, if it meant it had to be paid for - so be it. I doubt there would be a single soul on this list that could live without it if it were available. I would be interested in things like - improvised solos that didn't make it on the album (such as the video I have of the making of Images and Words with a DIFFERENT PMU solo being experimented with), on the spot collaborations (such as the end of the Hell's Kitchen track on the DTIFC CD 2), and a little bit of goofing off of course. I would take this over a "making of" CD anyday.

This really isn't THAT pertinent given that every band under the sun seems to be releasing live material via their label this fall, but I was just wondering.

I assume that most record contracts prohibit bands from release their own material outside of their contract, but there are exceptions.

Richard Thompson, who most on this list probably don't know of (but after Michael Hedges death now holds the title - in my mind anyway - as THE solo performer) is on Capitol, and he basically went to them and said, 'Look, boots of my stuff sell better than my 'official' releases, so please let me whip a couple of live albums together.'

Capitol said, 'No thanks. We like our relationship with you just as is. But if, say, you want to release this stuff yourself, well we don't think that will have a negative impact on your album sales, so go ahead.'

So, now you can buy any number of his 'official' boots from him online. Pretty cool, and a major label gave the green light to this.

The only reason I bring this up is that I constantly see people trolling for boots of smaller bands like Superior, Enchant, etc. What's to keep these guys from getting good DATs and cutting the CDs themselves? Seems like that would be a real boot to most bands bottom line.
