I was at the MAy 20th Concert in Tempe
Arizona, and Dt said something about doing an
upcoming concert with Deep Purple in Arizona, in
late summer early fall. I've called all the radio
station and they know nothing about this, if
anyone has any insight for me please email or post
    it for me, Thanks

I've got a Q relating to the recent classical thread. Where can I find a good rendition of Moonlight Sonata? Someone sent me a Midi file of it once...... and I thought it was awesome. So I went out a bought a bargain-bin CD that had it, but it pretty well sucked (it was very quiet, and boring).

A quick correction (or rather, clarification. By "quiet and boring" I don't mean "It didn't sound like Dream Theater", I meant that it was literally VERY QUIET (had to crank the volume to hear it.)

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Daus inquired: >Since we are now talking about Orchestrated music (GREAT THREAD!), I >have a question. I was always wondering which symphony made the BEST >Hungarian Rhapsody recording.

Dorati does a pretty good job with the London Symphony Orchestra, and Dutoit with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra rivals the Dorati version.

    >Also, I was always wondering who >composed that music that you would typically here played during "mad >scientist scenes" or "Frankenstein scenes" in movies. Does anyone know >who i am taling about?? It is a piece played on a pipe organ.

I can almost guarantee that the piece you're thinking of is J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor". One of the more widely-recognized pieces of classical music ever (with good reason).

Well, I can't help you out as far as a good recording of it - except maybe on the Immortal Beloved Soundtrack itself, but I'm not sure if they have the entire piece. The song is called The Moonlight Sonata, and DAMN it is an awesome piece!! Unfortunately I can only play the slow part - aka the part you hear in Immortal Beloved - but I'm working on it. This really hurts my feeling. If Fripp did that, all KC fans would commit suiside!! :)

I want to add one more band who does the cover of "21 Century Schizoid Man". It is "Pressurehed" from "Schizoid Dimension", a tribute to King Crimson album.

Regarding the classical stuff, I would like to add a must hear band named Art Zoyd. They are from France, play mainly avant-garde, synthesis of rock, free jazz and contamporaneous to classical music. Art Zoyd is dark but not as dark as Univers Zero or Magma. Try "Symphonie pour le jour ou bruleront les cites" or "Musique Pour L'Odyssee". Oh..if you want dark and weird music try anything by Magma.

Dontcha think James'd be a great replacement for Gerry? He's got the butt for it. (Doh! I guess I should read the above) Anyway...

My friend and I had an interesting conversation the other day. Not that this classical thread isn't great, but it sort of ties into it. As Bach, Beethoven, and co. are still revered as wonders of the music world, who do you think people will be considering the classics in another 200 years? Anyone from our time period you could think of? Personally, I can't think of anyone (save maybe Yanni) from the recent past who have the ability to last generations. Bill Gates, maybe?

I wanna hear about this one, I'm rather curious. --KorgX3

well, you can't get this version at your local store, but the drummer in my band, who also plays guitar and has a master's degree in music comp, recorded a metal version of this for a class he took. it totally crushes - he played the 8th note arppegios as pairs of muted 16th notes, kind of like petrucci in the chorus to glass moon, and overdubbed the melody. it's awesome.

Berlioz did NOT write his Symphonie Fantastique on opium. He wrote the fourth movement imagining that the hero of his symphony poisened himself on opium. The fourth movement are the horrible nightmares of the symphonies' hero. And incidentally, Berlioz did consider the hero of the Symphonie Fantastique to be himself, but Berlioz did not write the symphony under the influence of opium.

For that matter, the second movement of the symphony revolves around Berlioz taking Henriette, the woman he was in love with in real life, to a ball. But in real life, they never were at a ball/dance together, so that was imagined as well.

It is a wonderful piece, I just wanted to clarify Kai's mistake. Dont want people thinking Berlioz is a drug addict : )

    Hey guys,

I'm back in black with vengence and the creative juices are flowing. Now that I've moved into my OWN new place and am pretty much settled, I'm getting back into the music business. Since my consulting career took off, I decided to take advantage of it and invest in a keyboard setup for jam and stage use.

I'm looking at an Alesis QS7 with an expandable rack both for additional keyboards and rack mounts, 32 mb of ram and the ventage PCMCIA expansion card for the prog sounds like the Hamond B-3, etc. The amp I am also looking at is an Alesis RA-100 stereo amp with .7 stereo reference monitors. The thing I was wanting to know is What do Geddy Lee and Kevin Moore use.

Also I'm replacing some CDs the exbitch stole. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can score a copy of these: Saga's Worlds Appart, Autograph's first self titled release, and Taking On The World by Gun. Anybody know?

    Thanks in advance,

    Erik.
